Every year, hundreds of people lose their lives across India during monsoon rains. In 2025 alone, more than 3,000 people died due to extreme weather events during the monsoon season, according to a report by the Centre for Science and Environment.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal launched a sharp attack on the Centre and PM Modi over the issue, saying that the Prime Minister has a “moral responsibility” to act and alleging that the ruling party is displaying “double standards” on issues linked to faith.

After WhatsApp, the Centre has now sent notices to other messaging platforms-Telegram and Signal-asking clarification regarding what they have done to fight fraud, cybercrimes and other dangerous activities on their platforms.
