Harris won’t say if she’s pushing Hamas to agree to a cease-fire after publicly pressuring Netanyahu

Vice President Kamala Harris publicly pressed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “get this deal done” and agree to a cease-fire to end Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza, but Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, won’t say whether she’s also pushing terror group Hamas to relent at the negotiating table. Harris’ remarks urging Israel to make a deal, which came after her “frank and constructive” meeting with Netanyahu on Thursday, were lambasted by former President Donald Trump in public and, reportedly, by Netanyahu in private. “I think her remarks were disrespectful,” Trump, the GOP presidential nominee, told reporters while standing alongside Netanyahu on Friday afternoon. “They weren’t very nice pertaining to Israel. I actually don’t know how a person who’s Jewish can vote for her, but that’s up to them. But she was certainly disrespectful to Israel, in my opinion.” The current iteration of the proposed deal has two phases, Harris revealed. Phase one calls for a full cease-fire, “including a withdrawal of the Israeli military from population centers in Gaza.” The second phase would see the Israeli military withdraw from Gaza “entirely.” Harris said that there was “hopeful movement in the talks to secure an agreement on this deal,” but when asked several times by Fox News Digital whether she is applying the same pressure to Hamas leaders to accept the terms as she is to Netanyahu and Israel, her office did not respond. TOP JEWISH GROUP FEARS A HARRIS PRESIDENCY WOULD BE ‘FAR WORSE’ AMID RISING ANTISEMITISM “Israel has a right to defend itself, and how it does so matters,” Harris told reporters Thursday. “It is time for this war to end. And end in a way that Israel is secure, all the hostages are released, the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people can exercise their right to freedom, dignity and self-determination.” Harris condemned Hamas as a “brutal terrorist organization” that has “committed horrific acts, but she still lobbied to “get the deal done so we can get a cease-fire to end the war.” CONSERVATIVE THINK TANK DROPPING $18 MILLION TO HIGHLIGHT ‘EXTREMIST’ HARRIS AGENDA ON PARENTAL RIGHTS “As I just told Prime Minister Netanyahu, it is time to get this deal done,” Harris said. “So to everyone who has been calling for a cease-fire, and to everyone who yearns for peace, I see you, and I hear you.” Harris also stressed a “serious concern about the scale of human suffering in Gaza.” Netanyahu was unhappy with Harris’ mentioning of civilian deaths in Gaza and characterization of the “dire humanitarian situation there,” an Israeli official told Axios, adding that there was some concern that the remarks could actually impede progress toward the cease-fire that Harris apparently desires. But an aide to Harris dismissed that notion. “I don’t know what they’re talking about,” an aide told Fox News. “President Biden and Vice President Harris delivered the same message in their private meetings to Prime Minister Netanyahu: It’s time to get the cease-fire and hostage deal done.” The aide added: “And this is what the Vice President said publicly as well. The public comments tracked with her previous comments on the conflict. She started with underscoring rock-solid support for Israel and then expressed concern about civilian causalities and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as she always does. The meeting between Prime Minister Netanyahu and Vice President Harris was serious and collegial.”

Is Newsom out of the running in Harris’ VP search? A look at the 12th Amendment

Although California Gov. Gavin Newsom has long been considered a top contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, the focus has now shifted to whether he might be Kamala Harris’ running mate after President Biden abruptly suspended his re-election campaign. As concerns about President Biden’s mental acuity and age grew following his poor debate performance against former President Trump in June, Newsom repeatedly denied rumors of running a so-called “shadow campaign,” which many speculated he was conducting since his debate with GOP presidential candidate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis last year. Now that VP Harris has taken over the Democratic Party ticket’s helm and garnered enough support from delegates to become the party’s nominee to face off against Trump, many have suggested Newsom could be back in consideration for a spot in the White House. HARRIS’ SHIFT FROM TOUGH-ON-CRIME PROSECUTOR TO SOCIAL JUSTICE ADVOCATE FACES SCRUTINY FROM CONSERVATIVE GROUP But is Newsom really out of the running to be Harris’ VP? The 12th Amendment could be a potential hurdle. Ratified in 1804, it addresses the procedures for electing the president and vice president in response to issues that arose in the country’s early elections. It established that electors would cast separate ballots for president and vice president, rather than two votes for president as previously required. If the president and running mate are from the same state, however, electors from that state cannot cast votes for both offices. This rule ensures that the electors from the home state of the nominees cannot affect the outcome of the election for both positions. ABORTION, ‘FREE’ EDUCATION AMONG TOP ISSUES FOR HARRIS VOTERS In the first contested election under the 12th Amendment, Thomas Jefferson and his running mate, Aaron Burr, were from Virginia. The election was ultimately decided by the House of Representatives since the amendment hadn’t been ratified yet. However, there are ways around the statute. In the 2000 presidential election, George W. Bush and his running mate, Dick Cheney, were both residents of Texas, which raised questions at the time about whether they could legally run together. To navigate the 12th Amendment statute, Cheney, who had been a long-time Texas resident, changed his official residency to Wyoming to comply with the 12th Amendment. The move was made to ensure that the electors from Texas would not be in a position to vote for both candidates. GOV NEWSOM ORDERS HOMELESS ENCAMPMENTS TORN DOWN ACROSS CALIFORNIA: ‘NO MORE EXCUSES’ Harris is reportedly working with a short list of candidates to choose her vice presidential pick in the next two weeks before the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Harris’ list of potential running mates, according to NBC News, was whittled down to Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Newsom endorsed Harris for president Sunday, writing on X that “no one is better to prosecute the case against Donald Trump’s dark vision and guide our country in a healthier direction than America’s Vice President, @KamalaHarris.” Newsom’s office pointed Fox News Digital to the governor’s X post when reached for comment on his VP chances. Harris’ campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Fox News Digital’s Andrew Mark Miller contributed to this report.
Dem who criticized VP Harris’ handling of southern border endorses her for president

One of six House Democrats who broke with the party this week to condemn Vice President Kamala Harris‘ handling of the southern border endorsed her presidential campaign bid Friday. Rep. Don Davis of North Carolina also said North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, would be an “excellent” choice as a running mate. “The stakes of this presidential election are incredibly high, with far-reaching implications,” Davis said in a statement. TRUMP SLAMS BIDEN’S ‘TERRIBLE’ OVAL OFFICE ADDRESS ON ABRUPT EXIT FROM 2024 RACE: ‘IT WAS A COUP’ While endorsing Harris, Davis said the administration must address the migrant crisis at the border, which has become a top issue for voters. “These issues cannot be overlooked,” said Davis. “I will continue to advocate for comprehensive immigration reform, including securing the border and other issues impacting eastern NC families.” TRUMP EYES MULTIPLE BORDER VISITS AS HE DRAWS CONTRAST WITH ‘RADICAL LEFT’ HARRIS Republicans have criticized Harris’ record on the border, at a time when record numbers of illegal immigrants have entered the United States. Harris was informally named by President Biden as the “border czar” in 2021. She was tasked with handling the root causes of mass illegal immigration from Central and South America. In July 2021, Harris introduced a five-point general strategy to combat the “root causes” of illegal immigration. The plan did not include specific policies but instead called for “diplomacy, foreign assistance, public diplomacy, and sanctions” to “establish a fair, orderly, and humane immigration system.” Fox News Digital’s Anders Hagstrom and Chris Pandolfo contributed to this report.
Who is Roy Cooper? What to know about the North Carolina governor and possible VP pick

North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, is reportedly a contender to serve as Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Cooper, 67, is a staunch Harris supporter who has served as the 75th governor of North Carolina since 2017. Prior to being elected to the state’s highest elected office, Cooper, a native of Nashville, North Carolina, served a 16-year stint as the Tar Heel State’s attorney general from 2001 to 2017. Prior to entering politics, Cooper attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was elected to serve as the president of the university’s Young Democrats. He later earned a doctoral degree from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1982. HARRIS SNUBS ONE OF THE FEW DEMS OPEN TO BEING HER VP: REPORT During Cooper’s time in law school, then North Carolina Gov. Jim Hunt appointed him to the State Goals and Policy Board. At the time, he was the youngest member to serve on the board. Additionally, Hunt, the state’s 69th and 71st governor, appointed Cooper to the Interim Balance Growth Board and the North Carolina 2000 Commission. In 1985, Cooper filed paperwork to run for the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing the state’s 72nd District. He won that election in 1986, defeating Allen Barbee, his 12-term incumbent Democratic primary challenger. Cooper continued his legal studies during his time in the state House. In 1991, following the death of state Sen. Jim Ezzell in a car crash, Cooper was appointed to serve the remainder of Ezzell’s Senate term. Six years later, he was elected majority leader of the state Senate following then-leader Richard Conder’s resignation. Cooper went on to be elected to the North Carolina Bar Association’s Board of Governors, a role he held until 2002. Cooper filed paperwork to run as the state’s attorney general in January 2000. He defeated Republican Dan Boyce in the Nov. 2000 general election. Cooper took office in January 2001 and won re-election to the position in 2004, 2008, and 2012. HARRIS EDGES CLOSER TO TRUMP IN NEW POLL CONDUCTED AFTER BIDEN’S WITHDRAWAL In 2016, Cooper sought election to serve as the governor of North Carolina. He defeated incumbent Republican Pat McCrory in the state’s general election. He went on to win re-election as governor in 2020 against Dan Forest, the state’s lieutenant governor and Republican nominee. Cooper, an advocate for many liberal policies and proposals, has worked to portray himself as a moderate among his Democrat cohorts. He has had difficulty in doing so, however, in a state former President Donald Trump carried in both the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections. During his tenure as governor, Cooper has repeatedly battled the Republican-led state legislature. In October 2023, he sued state GOP lawmakers over a measure that eliminated his authority to pick elections board members. Cooper has also vetoed numerous measures that passed through the North Carolina General Assembly, many of which have been overridden by Republicans. In recent weeks, Cooper has been seen by many political strategists and insiders as a reliable choice for Harris as a running mate in the 2024 White House race. Just days after President Biden announced his decision to step aside in the presidential race and endorsed Harris for the role, Cooper stumped for Harris at a Democrat field office in Raleigh. “North Carolinians will make a difference this year, folks,” Cooper said at the time. “There are a lot of people that she can choose, she’s going to make the right choice,” he added. “I just want her to choose the person who is going to give her the best chance to win.”
Trump greets Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago, says World War III could happen if Harris wins

Former President Trump claimed on Friday that conflicts in the Middle East could escalate into a third World War if he loses the 2024 election. The Republican nominee for president made those remarks as he met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago resort home. Netanyahu traveled to Florida to meet with Trump after meeting with President Biden and presumptive Democratic nominee Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington, D.C., earlier this week, following his Wednesday address to a joint session of Congress. At Mar-a-Lago, Trump told reporters that Harris is “worse” on Middle East issues and claimed Israel’s war with Hamas in Gaza could expand into a wider regional conflict if she succeeds Biden, who announced Sunday that he would not seek re-election. “We’ll see how it goes. But if it all works out, if we win, it’ll be very simple. It’s all going to work out. And very quickly,” Trump said. “If we don’t, you’re going to end up with major wars in the Middle East. And maybe a third World war. You are closer to a third World War right now than at any time since the Second World War. We’ve never been so close because we have incompetent people running the country.” NETANYAHU TO MEET TRUMP AS ISRAELI LEADER LOOKS TO REKINDLE RELATIONSHIP Trump’s remarks come amid a reported diplomatic flare-up between Harris and Netanyahu which occurred after their meeting Thursday. In comments after the meeting, Harris said she told the Israeli prime minister that she “will always ensure that Israel is able to defend itself, including from Iran and Iran-backed militias such as Hamas and Hezbollah.” “I also expressed with the Prime Minister my serious concern about the scale of human suffering in Gaza, including the death of far too many innocent civilians. And I made clear my serious concern about the dire humanitarian situation there,” she added, calling for an end to the war and the release of all hostages held in Hamas captivity. Harris’ criticisms of Israel’s conduct in the Gaza war reportedly irked Netanyahu, according to Axios, who has repeatedly said fighting must continue until Hamas is eliminated, even if hostages are released. Asked about Harris’ comments Friday, Netanyahu told reporters Israel still hopes for a cease-fire deal. NETANYAHU SEEMS TO CONTRADICT BIDEN CEASE-FIRE OFFER: ‘NONSTARTER’ IF ALL CONDITIONS NOT MET “We’re trying to get one. And I think, to the extent that Hamas understands that there’s no daylight between Israel and the United States, that expedites the deal. And I hope that those comments don’t change that,” Netanyahu said. The Mar-a-Lago meeting is face-to-face contact Netanyahu has had with Trump since the Republican nominee left the White House in 2020. Their relationship strained when Netanyahu congratulated President-elect Biden on his victory that year, which prompted Trump to call out the Israeli leader. “I haven’t spoken to him since,” Trump told Israeli journalist Barak Ravid that year. “F–k him,” the former president added. Now, Netanyahu is making an effort to make amends and secure Trump’s support for Israel in the war against Gaza, should the Republican candidate return to the White House after the November election. BIDEN JOKES HE WAS ‘12’ WHEN HE FIRST MET ISRAELI PM GOLDA MEIR DURING NETANYAHU VISIT TO WHITE HOUSE In Trump’s home, the Israeli leader presented him with a photo of one of the Bibas toddlers, children who are still held captive by Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Netanyahu said the picture was given to him by the toddlers’ grandfather, who asked him to share it with Trump. “Wow, that’s very moving,” Trump said, accepting the photograph. “We’ll get that taken care of.” Protesters gathered in West Palm Beach, Florida, to greet Netanyahu as his plane landed. The prime minister’s visit to the nation’s capital earlier this week sparked pro-Hamas demonstrations, which featured antisemitic slogans, calls for Israel’s eradication, vandalism and heated confrontations with D.C. police. In his address to Congress, Netanyahu accused Iran of funding the protests and tore into the demonstrators, who have demanded an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hamas. ‘CHICKENS FOR KFC’: NETANYAHU RIPS CEASE-FIRE ACTIVISTS IN SPEECH TO CONGRESS AS TLAIB SILENTLY PROTESTS “I have a message for these protesters. When the tyrants of Tehran, who hang gays from cranes and murder women for not covering their hair, are praising, promoting and funding you, you have officially become Iran’s useful idiots,” Netanyahu said Wednesday. “Some of these protesters hold up signs proclaiming gays for Gaza. They might as well hold up signs saying ‘Chickens for KFC.’ These protesters chant ‘From the river to the sea.’ But many don’t have a clue what river and what sea they’re talking about.” The war in Gaza has raged since Hamas’ mass slaughter of nearly 1,200 people, including more than 30 Americans, in southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Hamas continues to hold more than 100 hostages in Gaza, including eight Americans. Fox News Digital’s Benjamin Weinthal and Greg Norman contributed to this report.

Johnson makes surprise border trip hours after Dems join GOP to condemn Harris on immigration

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., made an impromptu trip to the U.S.-Mexico border on Thursday. It came hours after six Democrats joined all House Republicans to pass a resolution condemning Vice President Kamala Harris’ handling of the migrant crisis as the Biden administration’s border czar. “We’ve had a very interesting tour here at the San Diego sector. This has become, in many ways, the epicenter of the Biden-Harris border catastrophe,” Johnson said. “Now we’re very concerned in Congress that this illegal immigrant invasion is threatening even the integrity of our elections.” Johnson made the trip alongside Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., and members of the National Border Patrol Council. TRUMP EYES MULTIPLE BORDER VISITS AS HE DRAWS CONTRAST WITH ‘RADICAL LEFT’ HARRIS “The president’s Executive Order last month is being touted as a success, because the number of encounters by the Border Patrol decreased, and that’s right, fewer people are being encountered by the Border Patrol between the ports of entry,” said Jon Anfinsen, a top union official. “But that’s not the whole story, because instead of crossing illegally between the ports, asylum seekers, many of whom are only seeking to abuse the system, are now primarily showing up at ports of entry and airports – so much so that customs officers in June encountered more asylum seekers than the Border Patrol did.” As a result, Anfinsen said, customs officers are now being overwhelmed by migrant processing duties. The White House pushed back on his claims by pointing Fox News Digital to a recent release by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that said Biden’s executive order on illegal immigration was “helping reduce the number of encounters at our Southwest Border by 55%” and that the number of encounters over a seven-day average period ”has decreased to below 1,800 encounters per day.” The White House also pointed to data that showed the number of migrant encounters at ports of entry without the CBP One app dropped 30% from May to June, the first full month Biden’s order was in effect. FEARING TRUMP VICTORY, NEW MIGRANT CARAVAN SETS OFF TOWARDS US BORDER Throughout the roughly 20-minute press conference, Johnson referred to the crisis at the southern border as the work of the “Biden-Harris administration” in an apparent bid to tie the longstanding issue to the vice president, who recently took over for Biden as the Democrats’ presumptive 2024 nominee. He also touted the House’s recently passed Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act), which would add a proof-of-citizenship requirement to the voter registration process. That bill, passed earlier this month with the support of five House Democrats and all Republicans, has not been taken up by the Democrat-majority Senate. “The problem is right now that under existing federal law, the states are prohibited from confirming and requesting proof of citizenship,” Johnson said. “So when all the illegals come across the border, and they’re turned over to the NGOs after they’re processed by customs and border control, and they’re shipped out around the country by planes, trains and automobiles – funded by American taxpayers. By the way, when they go to their local community, the administration officials are encouraging them to go to their local welfare office, for example, and sign up for public benefits.” He said that “motor voter” registration laws were also contributing to alleged instances of illegal immigrants signing up to vote. “If someone goes to the local office to sign up for public benefits, they’re also handed a short form that says, ‘Do you want to register to vote?’ All you have to do to participate in the elections is check a little box and say, ‘I’m a U.S. citizen, and yes, register me to vote.’ There’s no proof required, and we think that’s outrageous,” Johnson said. Democrats, largely opposed to the GOP bill, have pointed out that it’s already illegal to vote in federal elections without being a U.S. citizen. White House spokesman Andrew Bates told Fox News Digital in response to Johnson, “The American people see through Speaker Johnson’s stunts, which amounts to House Republicans wasting time on a redundant proposal as they continue to choose fentanyl traffickers over the Border Patrol by delaying the toughest bipartisan border security deal in modern history.” “Our executive actions resulted in lower unauthorized crossings than at the end of the Trump Administration, and congressional Republicans should stop choosing drug cartels and human smugglers over our national security,” Bates said. County judges in blue state go easier on migrants for child sex crimes than US offenders: report

Nearly 10% of all child sex crimes in one county in Maryland involved defendants who are illegal immigrants from Central American countries, according to a new report, which also found they get more lenient sentences than U.S. offenders. A Fox45 investigation found that Baltimore County’s state attorney filed 99 child sex crime cases between January 1 2023 and the end of May 2024. Of those, nine defendants over the 17-month period were illegal immigrants from Central American countries. The outlet cited court records that it said showed the three that had been sentenced had been given lenient sentences. One illegal immigrant found guilty of raping a 14-year-old was given a 25-year sentence reduced to 18 months, while another arrested for multiple counts of child sex crimes was given five years of supervised probation. ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT ACCUSED OF KILLING NASHVILLE RESTAURANT OWNER IN HIT-AND-RUN CRASH CHARGED: REPORT A spokesman for the circuit court told the outlet: “While we cannot comment on individual cases, judges base their decisions on many different factors that are often unique to each case.” “One such factor may be the understanding that an individual who is subject to an ICE or other federal detainer will be taken into custody by ICE or another federal agency immediately upon the end of whatever state sentence is imposed,” they said, also noting that another factor is plea agreement terms, which judges can accept or reject. The outlet found that, in three similar cases to illegal immigrants, Black defendants received prison time of four years or more, and two out of 11 closed cases involving Black defendants reportedly resulted in sentences of 12 years or more in prison. But the number of illegal immigrants among the alleged child sex offenders is likely to fuel concerns about a migrant crime wave that Republicans have pointed to in the middle of an election year when the ongoing crisis at the southern border has been a top political issue. COPA AMÉRICA FINAL ARRESTS INCLUDE AT LEAST 11 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS: REPORT Former President Trump this week sought again to tie the number of high-profile illegal immigrant crimes to the policies of the Biden administration. “Kamala Harris was appointed border czar, as you know, in March 2021, and since that time, millions and millions of illegal aliens have invaded our country, and countless Americans have been killed by migrant crime because of her willful demolition of American borders and laws,” Trump said on a call with reporters. Trump contrasted his policies on border security with those of the administration. Just as the Biden administration ended many of his policies after taking office, he pledged to scrap Biden’s policies if he is elected. The Biden administration has pinned the blame for the crisis on Republicans in Congress for not having approved funding and reforms to what it says is a “broken” system. In a response to Trump’s comments, the Harris campaign pointed to policies he implemented when in office, and recent placards calling for mass deportations at the Republican National Convention. “The only ‘plan’ Donald Trump has to secure our border is ripping mothers from their children and a few xenophobic placards at the Republican National Convention. He tanked the toughest bipartisan border security deal in a generation because for Donald Trump, this has never been about actually securing the border – it’s always about himself. He can make up whatever lies he wants, but the fact is there’s only one candidate in this race who will fight for real solutions to help secure our nation’s border, and that’s Vice President Harris,” Harris campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said in response.
