NC gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson hires Trump-friendly lawyer to investigate porn website allegations

North Carolina gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson hired an attorney who previously worked for former President Trump to investigate allegations that Robinson made controversial comments on a porn website. Robinson, the current Republican lieutenant governor running against Democratic state Attorney General Josh Stein to replace Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper in the battleground state, hired the Binnall Law Group from northern Virginia to investigate the claims raised in a CNN report published earlier this week. “Normally, something like this, an investigation, you know, run by the Department of Justice and the FBI would take months or years,” Binnall told Fox News Digital. “We can’t do that in this case because the voters need an answer before the election. And so we are going to move very quickly and still give them a very fulsome report.” “He absolutely denies saying any of the things that are in the CNN piece,” Binnall said of Robinson. “What my investigation is going to do is we are going to follow the facts. We are going to investigate this strenuously. We are going to leave no stone unturned. We’re going to be very, very aggressive. And the citizens of North Carolina deserve nothing less than a full investigation of this matter, which is what we are going to do.” 4 MARK ROBINSON CAMPAIGN STAFFERS RESIGN IN WAKE OF REPORT ON PORN WEBSITE POSTS “One of the problems with these October surprise hype reporting pieces on someone is it doesn’t give you the full amount of time to fully respond, to show the voters that the allegations were just wrong and that the voters could end up being deceived,” Binnall said. “And so, for that reason, my team understands the importance of moving quickly – very, very quickly and decisively in order to get to the truth, in order to get to a point where we can have full accountability for the true facts of this case.” The CNN report surfaced comments Robinson allegedly made more than a decade ago on a porn site messaging board, including describing himself as a “black NAZI;” saying he enjoyed transgender pornography; saying that he preferred Hitler to then-President Barack Obama in 2012; and criticizing the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. as “worse than a maggot.” Robinson has denied saying those words, but Republicans have begun to distance themselves from the candidate, who, if elected, would be North Carolina’s first Black governor. Trump did not mention Robinson, who he endorsed before the March primary and has spoken at other Trump events, during the Republican presidential nominee’s campaign rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, Saturday. The Republican Governors Association on Monday said it was not renewing its ad buy in North Carolina. In an X post Wednesday, Robsinson said he spoke with Republican leaders across the state and made it clear that “this is an election about policies, not personalities. Now is not the time for intra-party squabbling and nonsense.” “The allegations against me are outright lies, fabricated to distract voters from Josh Stein’s disastrous record,” Robinson said in a statement to Fox News Digital regarding the investigation. “The great people of North Carolina deserve the truth, and I am fully committed to ensuring they get it with complete transparency.” Though the probe is in its early stages, Binnall, who also has represented former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and former Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., in the past, said that his investigators include a former FBI agent, and that they are working expeditiously. BATTLEGROUND STATE REPUBLICAN DENIES INVOLVEMENT IN PORN SCANDAL, DISMISSES IT AS ‘TABLOID TRASH’ “We are at the very beginning of our investigation right now,” Binnall told Fox News Digital. “But the one thing that I know from my years as a lawyer is that it is very normal for people, especially in politics, to be able to skew the facts in order to tell a particular narrative. And there’s any number of different ways with technology and other ways out there right now that this information could be manipulated. We do not know the full extent of what that might be yet.” Binnall did not point a finger at CNN, but rather claimed that “there are left-wing actors in this country that have in their playbook time and again to lie and mislead the American people by dropping stories and allegations late in the political cycle and trying to mislead people,” As examples, he cited claims put forth in the media before the 2020 election that the Hunter Biden laptop story might have been disinformation, as well as unproven allegations that Trump colluded with Russia before the 2016 election. “Wait to see how the facts develop. Wait and see. And judge for yourself, because these are very scandalous allegations,” Binnall said. “I think there’s a reason that they weren’t brought out until very late in the campaign. But we’re going to get to the bottom of it, and so for the voters in North Carolina, I just say to wait and judge the facts for yourself.” When the CNN report first dropped, Robinson published a video statement comparing it to the “high-tech lynching” that Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas said he faced when, during his Supreme Court confirmation process, he was accused of sexually harassing Anita Hill. Binnall agreed that that is what his client is up against. “Clarence Thomas went through hell. I think all Americans know that now. It was a high-tech lynching against Clarence Thomas, an attempt to try to destroy a very, very good man in that very well could be the same thing here,” Binnall said. “But rather than guess what the facts are going to be, we are going to follow the facts. We are going to let the facts guide us in this case.” “When someone has nothing to hide, what they want is a full investigation,” Robinson’s attorney added. “And that’s why I think it’s important that Mr. Robinson went right out to us in order to conduct this investigation and
Democrat senator targeted by deepfake impersonator of Ukrainian official on Zoom call: reports

Authorities are investigating a mysterious “deep fake” video call that successfully impersonated a Ukrainian high official. Democratic Sen. Benjamin Cardin announced Wednesday that he had turned over materials to law enforcement after an unknown suspect had tricked him onto a video call via impersonating a foreign official. “In recent days, a malign actor engaged in a deceptive attempt to have a conversation with me by posing as a known individual. After immediately becoming clear that the individual I was engaging with was not who they claimed to be, I ended the call and my office took swift action, alerting the relevant authorities.” PUTIN LOWERS THRESHOLD FOR NUCLEAR RESPONSE AS BIDEN ADMINISTRATION PLEDGES NEW FUNDING TO UKRAINE He continued, “This matter is now in the hands of law enforcement, and a comprehensive investigation is underway.” Cardin had been duped into accepting the call after receiving what seemed like authentic emails from Dmytro Kuleba — the Ukrainian foreign minister — requesting an opportunity for a one-on-one conversation. When the Democratic senator logged on to a video call with the Ukrainian official, everything seemed normal at first — but the conversation soon turned tense and Cardin realized something was wrong. ZELENSKYY WARNS VANCE’S PLAN TO GIVE RUSSIA SEIZED LAND WILL LEAD TO ‘GLOBAL SHOWDOWN’ The Kuleba impersonator reportedly asked Cardin a series of increasingly direct foreign policy questions, such as “Do you support long-range missiles into Russian territory? I need to know your answer.” After realizing what was happening, Cardin reportedly disconnected the call and contacted the authorities. The Senate security office issued an alert to relevant leaders on the Hill urging vigilance against similar schemes. The alert noted that the impostor asked a series of “politically charged questions in relation to the upcoming election” that were “likely trying to bait the senator into commenting on a political candidate.” The FBI is reportedly investigating the incident.
Trump hits back at Harris with ‘Kamala’s Project 2025’

Former President Donald Trump struck back at Vice President Kamala Harris by releasing what he says is Harris’ version of a “Project 2025” on Thursday. The list of policies Trump accuses Harris of supporting comes in reference to the Heritage Foundation’s own Project 2025. Democrats have sought to tie Trump to the Heritage project, but he says he has not read it and does not support it. Trump argued on social media that Harris’ “Project 2025” includes such policies as “Citizenship for 20 million illegals” and “taxpayer funded reparations,” among other things. Trump later followed up with a post highlighting inflation in key swing states that took place during the Biden-Harris administration. NC RALLYGOERS ‘PRAYING’ THAT TRUMP WINS, SLAM DEM RHETORIC CALLING HIM A ‘THREAT’ AFTER ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTS While Trump has denied any connection to Project 2025 throughout the campaign cycle, he most clearly divorced himself from it during his debate against Harris earlier this month. Harris attempted to smear Trump as radical by citing some of the policies in the Heritage document. WHAT THE LATEST FOX NEWS POWER RANKINGS IN THE 2024 ELECTION SHOW “On this debate tonight, you’re gonna hear from the same old tired playbook. A bunch of lies, grievances, and name-calling. What you’re gonna hear tonight is a detailed and dangerous plan called Project 2025 that the former president intends on implementing if he were elected again,” Harris said at the time. Trump flatly rejected any involvement with the group, however. HARRIS-TRUMP SHOWDOWN: NEW POLL INDICATES WHO HAS EDGE IN MOST IMPORTANT BATTLEGROUND “As you know, and as she knows better than anyone, I have nothing to do with Project 2025. That’s out there. I haven’t read it. I don’t want to read it purposely. I’m not going to read it,” Trump responded. “This was a group of people that got together. They came up with some ideas, I guess some good, some bad. But it makes no difference,” he added. “Everybody knows I’m an open book. Everybody knows what I’m going to do.”
Trump, Harris neck and neck in key states Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina: poll

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are virtually tied in three crucial battleground states, according to new statewide surveys from Marist College. The Marist Poll released Thursday finds that Harris and Trump are tied at 49% among likely voters in North Carolina who were asked which candidate they were leaning toward. Of those polled who have made up their minds, 91% said they strongly support their choice. The race is tight in Arizona as well, where Trump polls just one point ahead of Harris, 50% to 49%, according to the Marist Institute for Public Opinion. The same goes for Georgia, where 50% of likely voters are leaning towards Trump and 49% say they are more inclined to vote for Harris. The Marist Polls were conducted from Sept. 19-24, surveying 4,643 registered voters across all three states who report they are definitely voting in this year’s election. HARRIS-TRUMP SHOWDOWN: THE EDGE IS CLEAR ON THIS KEY ISSUE There are 43 Electoral College votes up for grabs between Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina. Trump, a Republican, won all three in his 2016 victory over Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, but lost Arizona and Georgia to President Biden in his 2020 defeat. North Carolina, a swing state that Trump won twice, has an incumbent Democratic governor and appears more competitive this year as the Republican candidate for governor, Mark Robinson, is mired in scandal over posts he allegedly made on a porn website and polls poorly against state Attorney General Josh Stein, the Democratic candidate. “North Carolina, with its 16 electoral votes, is both the Harris and Trump campaigns’ backup plan after the hard-fought battle over Pennsylvania,” said Dr. Lee M. Miringoff, Director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion. “North Carolina is so close that the five regions in the state line up now almost exactly as they did four years ago. It’s as if the Biden years and the 2024 campaign haven’t happened.” Harris and Trump are tied at 48% among North Carolina independents who are likely to vote. Biden carried Tar Heel independents by four points in 2020, according to the 2020 Presidential Exit Poll. Harris leads Trump among Black voters 86% to 13%, but underperforms compared to Biden, who earned 92% of the Black vote in North Carolina in 2020. Trump has an advantage over Harris with white voters, 59% to 40%, though Harris has improved with this demographic over Biden, who won 33% of the white vote in 2020. The top issues for North Carolina voters are inflation (32%), preserving democracy (28%), immigration (14%) and abortion (11%), according to the poll. HARRIS AND TRUMP DEADLOCKED IN PENNSYLVANIA AS FORMER PRESIDENT TRAILS IN OTHER ‘BLUE WALL’ STATES: POLL Over in Arizona, Harris edges Trump among independents 51% to 47%. Biden won Arizona independents by 9 points four years ago, 53% to Trump’s 44%. Again, Trump leads Harris among white voters 51% to 48%, while the Latino vote is competitive, with 51% leaning towards Trump and 49% towards Harris. The top issues for Arizona voters are preserving democracy (27%), inflation (26%), immigration (21%) and abortion (14%), the survey said. “Arizona’s 11 electoral votes are up for grabs, but the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate (Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz.) has a double-digit lead,” said Miringoff. “Voters in the state, like elsewhere, are willing to split their ticket this time unlike the straight party voting that occurred in 2016 and 2020.” Harris also leads Trump among Georgia independents by five percentage points, 51% to 46%. Similar to Arizona, Biden won Georgia independents by 9 points in what was the first presidential election win for Peach State Democrats since 1992. Trump heavily contested the 2020 results in Georgia and continues to make unproven allegations of widespread voter fraud that have been rejected by Georgia officials, including Republican Gov. Brian Kemp. EARLY VOTING BEGINS IN ILLINOIS, NORTH DAKOTA, FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN “Georgia was ground zero for election controversies in 2020. Yet, the overwhelming majority of Georgians express confidence that elections will be fair and accurate,” said Miringoff. “Interestingly, most Democrats and Republicans share this view despite the results last time.” Georgia voters rank inflation as the top issue (34%), followed by preserving democracy (24%), immigration (13%) and abortion (11%). A Fox News national poll taken after the first debate between Harris and Trump spotlighted that 39% of voters surveyed said the economy was their most pressing issue, far ahead of immigration (16%) and abortion (15%). All other issues tested were in single digits. “An increasing number say grocery prices and housing costs are tough for their family,” the Fox News poll notes. Trump led Harris on the economy by 5 points in the Fox News poll. “The issue profile of this election continues to favor Trump,” said Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts the Fox News Poll along with Democrat Chris Anderson. But Shaw added that Trump’s “edge on economic issues has decreased, probably due to Harris’ messaging on housing costs and taxes, both of which target the middle class and appear to be paying off.” Fox News Digital’s Paul Steinhauser and Victoria Balara contributed to this report.
Biden to sign executive order aiming to reduce gun violence, eliminate controversial gun conversion devices

The White House is expected to announce new actions to reduce gun violence, Fox News has learned. According to a senior administration official, President Biden is poised to sign an executive order that will address key priorities for combating firearms threats, including eliminating gun conversion devices and establishing an emerging firearms threats task force. The executive order will also aim to improve school-based active shooter drills to better prepare students for emergency situations. The executive order comes just days after the mass shooting in Birmingham, Alabama on Sept. 21 that left four dead and 17 wounded. It also comes as former President Trump has survived two attempted assassinations in recent months. HARRIS CAMPAIGN WON’T GIVE DETAILS ON TYPE OF GUN SHE OWNS, LAST TIME SHE WENT TO RANGE The White House says firearm technology is rapidly evolving and Biden’s actions are aimed at reducing two key emerging threats: machine gun conversion devices and 3D printed firearms. GUN RIGHTS, GENDER TRANSITIONS, MEDICAL POT AMONG ISSUES SCOTUS WILL TACKLE THIS TERM The senior administration official said conversion devices, those that aid in converting semi-automatic pistol into a fully automatic firearm, are already illegal under federal law but are continuing to be used in crime and recovered by law enforcement agencies across the country. The relatively new 3D printed firearms are built from computer code downloaded from the internet, making them widely available. They also lack serial numbers, which often help investigators trace firearms recovered at crime scenes. These 3D printed firearms can also be built with non-metal materials, making them undetectable by magnetometers used to secure airports, courthouses, and event spaces, the senior administration official said. Biden’s executive order will establish an emerging firearms threats task force consisting of leadership from various federal departments and agencies. It will be tasked with issuing a report within 90 days that includes an assessment of the threat posed by machine gun conversion devices and 3D printed firearms, the senior administration official said. The assessment will also include a review of federal agencies, operational and legal capacities to detect, intercept and seize these firearm and firearm components. Finally, it will direct the Secretary of Education, the Secretary of Homeland Security, the attorney general, the secretary of Health and Human Services, and the U.S. Surgeon General to develop and publish new active shooter drills.
