Kari Lake to hold ‘Democrats for Lake’ event after Democrats tout Republican support for Harris, Gallego

GOP Arizona Senate candidate Kari Lake announced Tuesday an event that will feature current and former Democrats supporting her campaign. The coalition, called “Democrats/former Democrats for Kari Lake & America First,” was revealed after Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign announced its “Republicans for Harris” initiative, which held a press conference in Mesa, Arizona, and after Lake’s opponent for Senate, Rep. Ruben Gallego, D-Ariz., announced his “Republicans and Independents for Ruben” coalition. Lake called on members of the press to give her event, which will be held Thursday, as much coverage as the events for Harris and Gallego. ‘NEVER TRUMPERS’ COALESCE BEHIND DEM TICKET IN REPUBLICANS FOR HARRIS CAMPAIGN “Hello Media— We see how you have given Kamala and her favorite liberal congressman Ruben Gallego so much news coverage of their ‘Republicans’ for Kamala/Ruben/America Last press conferences,” Lake wrote on the social media platform X. “We ask that you give us equal coverage of our event coming Thursday. It’s called Democrats/former Democrats for Kari Lake & America First,” she continued. “Clear your schedule and we’ll let you know the time/place to meet us. I promise this will be eye-opening.” Gallego announced on Sunday endorsements from 40 Republicans and independents, including officials and operatives who have shown support for other Democrats, in an effort to prove he has appeal across the aisle as he seeks to defeat Lake in November, according to The Arizona Republic. Republicans for Harris, consisting of “Never Trumpers,” also officially launched on Sunday, in an initiative that features several former officials, including former Trump White House officials Stephanie Grisham and Olivia Troye, as Harris’ campaign looks to rebrand her more moderately ahead of November’s presidential election against former President Trump. Lake and Gallego will also face off in the general election in November. Arizona’s open Senate seat, currently held by outgoing Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, is rated as “Lean Democratic” by non-partisan political handicapper the Cook Political Report.

Vice President Kamala Harris will hold a rally in Pennsylvania on Tuesday to announce her running mate. This will be Harris’ first visit to Pennsylvania as the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, after formerly securing the nomination on Monday. The trip also marks her seventh visit to the commonwealth this year and the 17th since she was sworn in as vice president in 2021. During the event, Harris will introduce her running mate, although it still remains unclear who that will be. She has reportedly narrowed her choice down to two candidates: Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. The Harris campaign is touting enthusiasm in Pennsylvania, saying that more than 33,000 people have signed up to volunteer for the campaign in the commonwealth in just the last 15 days, according to a news release signed by Jack Doyle, Pennsylvania communications director. The campaign has nearly 300 staffers across 36 offices, including in swing counties like Erie, Luzerne, and Northampton. The campaign said it is also working to make inroads in historically Republican areas in Union, Lancaster and York counties. IT’S OFFICIAL: VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS FORMALLY WINS THE DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION The campaign also said that Harris is “barnstorming” Pennsylvania while former President Trump, her main opponent in November’s election, is “struggling to keep up.” It said Trump’s campaign “lags far behind in the infrastructure needed to win with just three offices in Pennsylvania” and has “shown he doesn’t want these voters.” Trump survived an assassination at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13 and said he would return there for another rally in the future. He held a rally in Harrisburg last week. The vice president is looking to show a contrast between herself and the former president in Pennsylvania, with her campaign saying she is “fighting for our freedoms, democracy and an economy that provides everyone the opportunity to not just get by, but get ahead” while “Trump’s toxic Project 2025 agenda would take our country backward by enacting a national abortion ban, raising costs for the middle class, and giving Trump virtually unchecked power.” Project 2025 is a controversial initiative organized by conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation that was authored by a number of conservatives, including some former Trump administration officials. The initiative offers right-wing policy recommendations for Trump should he win the presidency, including replacing civil service employees with Trump loyalists, abolishing the Department of Education, criminalizing pornography, eliminating DEI programs, cutting funding for Medicaid and Medicare, rejecting abortion as health care and infusing the government with Christian values. Trump has sought to distance himself from the initiative, which has been criticized as being an authoritarian and Christian nationalist plan that would undermine civil liberties, saying he knows nothing about it, that parts of it are “absolutely ridiculous and abysmal” and that its backers are on the “radical right.” ‘NEVER TRUMPERS’ COALESCE BEHIND DEM TICKET IN REPUBLICANS FOR HARRIS CAMPAIGN This is the first presidential election since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, giving states the power to make their own laws on abortion access. The Harris campaign cited polling showing that a majority of Pennsylvania voters support some abortion access. “Vice President Harris will ensure women have the power to make decisions about their own bodies once again,” her campaign said in a news release. “That contrast will be front and center here” in Pennsylvania. The Harris campaign also said the Trump administration killed more than 275,000 jobs in Pennsylvania, including thousands of manufacturing jobs, and oversaw record-high unemployment. It said Harris and President Biden inherited an economy “left in shambles” by Trump but that she helped create more than half a million jobs in Pennsylvania and capped prescription drug costs for millions of Pennsylvania residents on Medicare. Touting her previous experience as a prosecutor in California, Harris’ campaign said she is committed to keeping communities safe and locking up dangerous crooks, criminals and predators. The campaign said the murder rate in Pennsylvania, particularly Philadelphia, soared during the Trump administration while Harris “has taken on the gun lobby and helped bring a historic drop in violent crime.” “If Trump gets a second term, he will once again cozy up to the NRA and make it easier for weapons to get into the hands of convicted criminals,” the campaign said in the news release. The campaign also highlighted the electoral losses Trump and his endorsed candidates have suffered in Pennsylvania in 2018, 2020 and 2022. The campaign pointed to Trump’s loss to Biden in 2020, as well as Republican Mehmet Oz’s 2022 loss to now-Democrat Sen. John Fetterman and Republican Doug Mastriano’s 2022 loss to now-Democrat Gov. Shapiro. “Republicans, too, lost ground in every corner of the Commonwealth as reproductive freedom and protecting our democracy were front and center for voters,” the Harris campaign said in the news release. “And reasonable Republicans across the commonwealth continue to reject Trump, with more than 158,000 people voting against Trump in the Pennsylvania Republican primary, nearly two months after Nikki Haley dropped out of the race.”

Key Republican and Democrat nomination contests will set the table for this autumn’s battle for the House and Senate majorities as Michigan, Missouri, Kansas and Washington state hold primary elections on Tuesday. Among the contests taking top billing is the Michigan race to succeed retiring longtime Democrat Sen. Debbie Stabenow. The seat is one of a handful in key battleground states that the GOP is aiming to flip as it works to win back control of the Senate it lost in the 2020 elections. Former Rep. Mike Rogers, a one-time FBI special agent who later served as chair of the House Intelligence Committee during his tenure in Congress, enjoys the backing of former President Trump, the GOP’s presidential nominee, as well as support from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which is the Senate GOP’s campaign arm. WHAT MIKE ROGERS TOLD FOX NEWS DIGITAL ABOUT HIS SENATE SHOWDOWN IN MICHIGAN Rogers is considered the clear front-runner in a field that also includes former Rep. Justin Amash, and physician Sherry O’Donnell.  Rep. Elissa Slotkin is the clear front-runner for the Democratic Party’s Senate nomination in a race that also includes actor and Detroit small business owner Hill Harper. In the race to succeed Slotkin in the Lansing-area swing seat in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District are Democrat Curtis Hertel and Republican Tom Barrett, two former state senators who are uncontested as they seek their party’s nominations. Other Michigan congressional seats that could decide control of the U.S. House – where Republicans currently hold a razor-thin majority – are in the 3rd, 8th and 10th districts, all of which have contested primaries on Tuesday. In Missouri, conservative Sen. Josh Hawley is unopposed in the GOP primary as he runs for re-election. The winner of the Democratic primary, which includes 2022 nominee Lucas Kunce, will face a steep uphill climb against Hawley in November. But the primary in Missouri that’s grabbing plenty of national attention is the Democrati nomination battle in the St. Louis-area 1st Congressional District. That’s where Rep. Cori Bush, a member of the so-called “Squad” of diverse progressives, is facing a challenge from St. Louis county prosecuting attorney Wesley Bell in a primary that’s seen more than $15 million in outside spending.  A key issue in the race is Bush’s criticism of how Israel is handling its war against Hamas in the densely populated Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, in the GOP nomination race to succeed term-limited Republican Gov. Mike Parson, Trump has endorsed three of the nine candidates in the primary field: Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, Mike Kehoe and Air Force veteran and state Sen. Bill Eigel. In Kansas, Democrats and Republicans are holding primaries in the race to succeed retiring GOP Rep. Jake LaTurner in the 2nd Congressional District, which covers much of the eastern part of the state, including parts of metropolitan Kansas City. In the overwhelmingly urban 3rd Congressional District, two Republicans are vying to challenge three-term Rep. Sharice Davids, the only Democrat in the Kansas congressional delegation. She goes before voters in an all-party primary that also includes Republican Joe Kent, the Trump supporter she defeated in 2022. In Washington, the top two vote getters in the primary face off in November. There are also primaries in the races to succeed retiring Democrat Rep. Derek Kilmer and Republican Rep. A controversial advertising alliance has drawn the attention of one of the most powerful House committees in Congress as critics allege it has fostered corporate collusion in order to silence certain political messages.  The Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM) describes itself as a “cross-industry initiative” started as part of the World Federation of Advertisers that, according to a spokesperson, “was established in 2019 to help the advertising industry address the challenge of illegal or harmful content on digital media platforms and its monetization via advertising.” “It was set up in the wake of the Christchurch Mosque shootings in which the killer livestreamed the attacks on Facebook,” the spokesperson told Fox News Digital. “This followed a slew of high-profile cases where brands’ advertisements appeared next to illegal or harmful content, such as child pornography and content promoting terrorism. This included the 2017 London Times exposé entitled ‘Big brands fund terror through online adverts.’” The group claims to be “apolitical” and “voluntary” and says that it benefits its members by providing use of “resources and information about best practices to learn where their advertising investments go, and to avoid placement next to illegal or harmful content that could damage their brands’ reputation.” JORDAN INVESTIGATES DAUGHTER OF JUDGE IN NY V. TRUMP CASE OVER HER WORK FOR KAMALA HARRIS, DEMOCRATS “GARM offers voluntary frameworks to help brands choose the content they want their ads to appear next to,” GARM’s website says.  However, GARM’s critics have a different view of the organization and suggest that it has colluded with dozens of major U.S. corporations to push boycotts and suppress speech in a manner that targets conservatives. In discussing his views on freedom of speech, GARM’s leader and co-founder, Rob Rakowitz, has expressed frustration with an “extreme global interpretation of the US Constitution” and complained about using “‘principles for governance’ and applying them as literal law from 230 years ago (made by white men exclusively).” With this worldview, GARM pushed what it called “uncommon collaboration” to “rise above individual commercial interest.” SEVEN FEDERAL AGENCIES HAVE PUSHED TECH GIANTS TO CENSOR AMERICANS, MEDIA RESEARCH CENTER SAYS The House Judiciary Committee released an extensive report outlining how it believes “large corporations, advertising agencies, and industry associations participated in boycotts and other coordinated action to demonetize platforms, podcasts, news outlets, and other content deemed disfavored by GARM and its members.” GARM is alleged to have worked with large companies to implement advertising crackdowns on Elon Musk, Joe Rogan, Spotify, political candidates and news outlets, including Fox News, The Daily Wire and Breitbart News. “The Committee’s oversight has shown that GARM has deviated far from its original intent, and has collectively used its immense market power to demonetize voices and viewpoints the group disagrees with — even intervening in situations that do not have a so-called ‘brand safety’ concern,” Committee Chairman Jim Jordan wrote in a letter to over 40 companies last week.  “Through its oversight, the Committee has learned that collusive activity is occurring within the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM), of which your company is a member. In particular, the Committee has uncovered evidence of coordinated action by GARM and its member companies, including boycotts of disfavored social media platforms, podcasts, and news outlets.” “The Committee on the Judiciary is conducting oversight into the adequacy and enforcement of U.S. antitrust laws,” the letter said. Along with Adidas, the letter was sent to a variety of other companies, including American Express, Bayer, BP, Carhartt, Chanel, CVS and General Motors, asking them to preserve documents related to their involvement with GARM. Musk has also publicly criticized GARM and suggested taking legal action against the group while referring to it as an “advertising boycott racket.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP The WFA spokesperson, Will Gilroy, told Fox News Digital this week that the “recent allegations by the US House Judiciary Committee against GARM for anti-competitive behavior are unfounded.”  “Membership of GARM is entirely voluntary. Its frameworks and tools are intentionally broad, and individual companies are free to review, adopt, modify, or reject them, as they see fit,” Gilroy said. “The decision where and when to advertise is always down to the individual advertiser, in collaboration with their agency partners where relevant.” “Recent engagement with industry leaders suggests that GARM’s work remains valuable and increasingly relevant as digital media continues to develop,” he continued. “As such, GARM will continue to live up to its commitment to help allow its members to drive more responsible marketing practices.”
