Harris hauls in $81 million in first 24 hours since Biden bowed out

Harris hauls in million in first 24 hours since Biden bowed out

Vice President Harris raised $81 million in the first 24 hours since President Biden ended his re-election bid and endorsed his vice president to succeed him as the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, her campaign announced. The Harris campaign touted in an email release on Monday afternoon that the money raised was the “largest 24-hour raise in presidential history.” The campaign said more than 888,000 grassroots donors made contributions during the 24 hours, with 60% of them making their first contribution during the 2024 election cycle. And the campaign says it signed up 43,000 of those donors to make recurring donations. But the Harris campaign did not offer a breakdown of what percentage of the $81 million was raised online by small-dollar donations and what share came from top-dollar donors. The haul includes money raised by the campaign, the Democratic National Committee and joint fundraising committees. HEAD HERE FOR THE LATEST FOX NEWS REPORTING THE PUSH BY DEMOCRATS TO NOMINATE HARRIS TO REPLACE BIDEN “The historic outpouring of support for Vice President Harris represents exactly the kind of grassroots energy and enthusiasm that wins elections,” campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said in a statement. “Already, we are seeing a broad and diverse coalition come together to support our critical work of talking to the voters that will decide this election.” DEMOCRATS TO MEET WEDNESDAY TO HAMMER OUT TIMING OF HARRIS PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION The one-day haul easily tops the nearly $53 million former President Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee announced that they brought in nearly two months ago through their online digital fundraising platform in the first 24 hours after Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts in his criminal trial in New York City. The Harris fundraising announcement comes as the party started to quickly coalesce behind the vice president after Biden ended his bid. The president endorsed Harris immediately after suspending his own campaign, which ignited a surge of endorsements by Democrat governors, senators, House members and other party leaders in backing the vice president to succeed Biden as the party’s 2024 standard-bearer. 10 DEMOCRATS KAMALA HARRIS COULD NAME AS HER RUNNING MATE Biden on Sunday suspended his campaign amid mounting pressure from within the Democratic Party for the president to drop out after a disastrous debate performance last month. The 81-year-old president’s uneven delivery and awkward answers during the first 20 minutes of the debate in front of a national audience quickly prompted questions about his mental and physical ability to serve another four years in the White House. The money brought in over the past 24 hours by Harris will help rebuild a once-massive Biden campaign war chest that was partially depleted as fundraising started to dry up amid the increasing chorus of calls for the president to drop out of the race. Munoz said in a statement that “there is a groundswell behind Kamala Harris, and Donald Trump is terrified because he knows his divisive, unpopular agenda can’t stand up to the Vice President’s record and vision for the American people.” The Biden campaign and the DNC enjoyed a fundraising lead over Trump and the RNC this year. But Trump and the RNC topped Biden and the DNC, $331 million to $264 million, during the April-June second quarter of 2024 fundraising. Kamala Harris now backed by more than half of delegates needed to win nomination: report

Kamala Harris now backed by more than half of delegates needed to win nomination: report

Vice President Kamala Harris is now backed by more than half the delegates she needs to clinch the nomination for president, according to The Associated Press.  According to a Monday report, more than 1,000 delegates have told the outlet or announced publicly that they plan to support Harris at the Democratic National Convention, which is more than half of the delegates needed to win the nomination vote, according to an Associated Press survey.  The AP notes that the survey is an unofficial tally, as Democratic delegates are free to vote for the candidate of their choice at the convention later in August.  Under current Democratic Party rules, a candidate will need the support of 1,976 delegates on the first ballot of that vote to win the nomination, the AP notes.  10 DEMOCRATS VICE PRESIDENT KAMALA HARRIS COULD NAME AS HER 2024 RUNNING MATE President Biden dropped out of the race on Monday and endorsed his ticket-mate, after insisting for weeks that he was “in it to win it.”  Biden’s disastrous debate performance in June first sparked skepticism that the 81-year-old politician might be unable to serve another four years – or beat former President Trump in November.  Facing dwindling poll numbers and concerns of cognitive decline, the dam of party support broke and scores of Democratic lawmakers and leaders called for Biden to step aside.  “My fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and to focus all my energies on my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said in a statement on X, formerly Twitter.  HEAD HERE FOR THE LATEST FOX NEWS REPORTING THE PUSH BY DEMOCRATS TO NOMINATE HARRIS TO REPLACE BIDEN “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump,” he said.  In the 24 hours since Biden announced he was suspending his campaign, Harris raked in a staggering $81 million in fundraising, her campaign announced Monday.  The campaign touted in an email release that the money raised was the “largest 24-hour raise in presidential history.”  DEMOCRATS TO MEET WEDNESDAY TO HAMMER OUT TIMING OF HARRIS PRESIDENTIAL NOMINATION And the campaign showcased that over 888,000 grassroots donors made contributions during the past day, with 60% of them making their first contribution during the 2024 election cycle. The haul includes money raised by the campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and joint fundraising committees.” “The historic outpouring of support for Vice President Harris represents exactly the kind of grassroots energy and enthusiasm that wins elections,” campaign spokesperson Kevin Munoz said in a statement.  By comparison, Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee announced that they hauled in nearly $53 million through their online digital fundraising platform in the first 24 hours after the former president was convicted on 34 felony counts in his criminal trial in New York City.

Netanyahu’s meeting at White House up in the air as Biden recovers from COVID: report

Netanyahu’s meeting at White House up in the air as Biden recovers from COVID: report

President Biden may not meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday as planned, according to a report. Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported on X that Netanyahu’s team is no longer expecting to meet with Biden Tuesday. An Israeli official told Ravid that Netanyahu, who is visiting Washington, D.C., this week, is still “waiting for an answer” from the White House. The development comes days after Biden announced that he was diagnosed with COVID-19.  As of Monday afternoon, the president is still isolated in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, though he is said to be recovering. BIDEN ENDS BID FOR SECOND TERM IN WHITE HOUSE AS HE DROPS OUT OF HIS 2024 REMATCH WITH TRUMP In a letter released on Monday, Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, wrote that the president “completed his tenth dose of PAXLOVID this morning.” “His symptoms have almost resolved completely,” the doctor wrote. “His pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and temperature remain absolutely normal. His oxygen saturation continues to be excellent on room air [sic]. His lungs remain clear.” “The President continues to perform all of his presidential duties,” O’Connor added. WATCH: THOUSANDS DESCEND ON MICHIGAN TOWN FOR FIRST TRUMP RALLY SINCE FAILED ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT The meeting change also comes a day after Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. He immediately endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, with many other prominent Democrats joining him. “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president,” Biden wrote in a public letter. “While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and the country for me to stand down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.” Before departing Israel for D.C., Netanyahu told reporters that his country would stand by the U.S. “regardless [of] who the American people choose as their next president.” “In this time of war and uncertainty, it’s important that Israel’s enemies know that America and Israel stand together,” Netanyahu said. Netanyahu is scheduled to address Congress on Wednesday. He is also expected to meet with Harris. Fox News Digital reached out to Netanyahu’s office and the White House for additional information. Netanyahu also requested a meeting with former President Trump this week, according to Politico. It is unclear if Trump agreed to the meeting. The Associated Press and Fox News Digital’s Danielle Wallace and Paul Steinhouser contributed to this report.

Netanyahu’s meeting at White House moved amid Biden’s COVID recovery, Harris campaigning

President Biden will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday, after Israeli officials were confused if the two leaders would meet at all. Axios journalist Barak Ravid originally reported on X that Netanyahu’s team was unsure if their meeting with Biden – which was slated for Tuesday – would take place. An Israeli official told Ravid that Netanyahu, who is visiting Washington, D.C., this week, is still “waiting for an answer” from the White House. On Monday night, a U.S. official told Fox News that the meeting was set for Thursday. Netanyahu arrived in the U.S. a little more than 24 hours after Biden announced that he was dropping out of the 2024 race, signaling a time of turmoil for the Democratic Party. Netanyahu’s arrival also comes days after Biden announced that he was diagnosed with COVID-19.  As of Monday afternoon, the president is still isolated in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, though he is said to be recovering. Biden endorsed Harris in the 2024 presidential race shortly after dropping out. On Wednesday, Netanyahu will give a speech in front of Congress, though Harris reportedly declined to presume over the address, according to the Washington Post. Before departing Israel for D.C., Netanyahu told reporters that his country would stand by the U.S. “regardless [of] who the American people choose as their next president.” “In this time of war and uncertainty, it’s important that Israel’s enemies know that America and Israel stand together,” the leader said. Ted Cruz demands assurances from NPR that DEI doesn’t effect editorial calls

Ted Cruz demands assurances from NPR that DEI doesn’t effect editorial calls

FIRST ON FOX: Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, pressed National Public Radio (NPR) CEO Katherine Maher to prove that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) goals and wealthy, left-wing donors aren’t influencing editorial decisions inside the newsroom.  “As a recipient of federal funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), National Public Radio (NPR) is required by law to adhere to ‘objectivity and balance in all programs or series of programs of a controversial nature.’ The organization is falling short of that mandate,” he wrote in a letter to Maher.  KAMALA HARRIS PRAISES BIDEN’S LEGACY IN FIRST REMARKS SINCE ANNOUNCING 2024 BID Cruz noted that NPR receives funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) in the form of grants. The CPB itself receives federal funding.  However, he pointed out that NPR also receives donations from wealthy and often left-leaning benefactors.  “As it turns out, NPR’s selective reporting may be driven not only by preexisting political bias within the organization but also by its private donors,” the senator claimed. “The timing and content of certain NPR articles align with earmarked, multi-million-dollar donations from left-wing nonprofits looking to advance their own narratives in the press.” WES MOORE, CONSIDERED A RISING STAR AMONG DEMOCRATIC GOVERNORS, ENDORSES KAMALA HARRIS He pointed to several examples of specific donors and coverage from NPR that appeared to align with each contributors’ beliefs.  “If the American taxpayer is going to finance a public broadcaster, then they deserve nothing less than fair and unbiased reporting,” Cruz said.  According to the Texas Republican, NPR “has strayed far from its ethos of ‘independent journalism in the public interest’ by allowing its liberal donors to buy desired ‘news’ coverage.” KAMALA HARRIS SPENT MONTHS SHOOTING DOWN CONCERNS OVER BIDEN’S MENTAL COMPETENCY An NPR spokesperson told Fox News Digital in a statement, “NPR’s newsroom is independent and free from outside influence; our supporters have no input into our editorial decisions and no access to our journalists. We’re grateful to all who support public media’s mission to deliver impartial, fact-based news and reporting to the American public.” NPR came under renewed scrutiny earlier this year when longtime editor Uri Berliner penned an essay in the Free Press, publicly airing criticisms of his employer. He expressed concerns over NPR’s coverage of various events, including allegations of former President Trump’s collusion with Russia in the 2016 election, Hunter Biden’s laptop and the theory that COVID-19 actually began in a lab in China and was leaked. He was suspended by NPR for the essay before resigning from the outlet entirely.  In the wake of the scandal, which shed new light on its editorial choices, Republican lawmakers made fresh threats to the funding for CPB, which is then funneled to NPR.

GOP senator demands Cabinet invoke 25th Amendment against Biden after suspending his re-election campaign

GOP senator demands Cabinet invoke 25th Amendment against Biden after suspending his re-election campaign

EXCLUSIVE: Sen. Eric Schmitt is urging all members of the Cabinet, including Vice President Kamala Harris, to invoke the 25th Amendment against President Biden, Fox News Digital has learned.  Schmitt sent letters to every member of Biden’s Cabinet Monday afternoon, just a day after the president suspended his re-election campaign amid pressure from within his own party about his age and fitness to serve another term.  BIDEN ENDS BID FOR SECOND TERM IN WHITE HOUSE AS HE DROPS OUT OF HIS 2024 REMATCH WITH TRUMP Biden, instead, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to serve as the 2024 Democratic nominee in his place.  While he has dropped out of the race, the White House has maintained that the president will finish his first term, which concludes Jan. 20, 2025.  But Republicans, including his GOP opponent, former President Trump, are questioning his ability to serve for the remainder of his term.  Schmitt, on Monday, sent letters to the Cabinet, including Harris, urging them to invoke the 25th Amendment. While many have suggested the invocation of the 25th Amendment, Schmitt is the first to officially take action.  “Joe Biden has decided he isn’t capable of being a candidate; in so doing his admission also means he cannot serve as President,” Schmitt told Fox News Digital. “Therefore, it is in the best immediate interest of the safety of the United States for Joe Biden to resign from office or face removal under the 25th Amendment.”  Schmitt said that under the Biden-Harris Administration, Americans have “fought to stay afloat financially, have seen America’s standing on the world stage diminished, and have been pushed aside in favor of illegal aliens flooding across our southern border.”  TRUMP SAYS BIDEN ‘IS NOT FIT TO SERVE’: ‘WHO IS GOING TO BE RUNNING THE COUNTRY FOR THE NEXT 5 MONTHS?’ “If Joe Biden is incapable of running for office, he is incapable of serving in office,” Schmitt told Fox News Digital. “It is that simple.”  Fox News Digital obtained letters Schmitt sent to members of the Cabinet Monday evening.  “If President Biden is willing to admit he is unable to continue to stand as the Democratic Party nominee for President after the primary process due to his health, he is unable to continue to serve as President until January 20, 2025,” Schmitt writes in the letters to members of the president’s Cabinet.  “As the Democrats scramble to find a new nominee, it is with a sober awareness of the gravity of my request that I ask that you, as a principal officer of the executive department, discharge your constitutional duty under the 25th Amendment, working with Vice President Harris and rest of the Cabinet to submit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives a written declaration of the truth we now all see—President Biden is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office,” he continues. “If President Biden is unwilling to resign, for the sake of our great nation, you must do your duty to relieve him of his constitutional powers and duties.”  KAMALA HARRIS’ PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN RAISES NEARLY $50 MILLION SINCE BIDEN ENDORSEMENT The U.S. Constitution’s 25th Amendment states that “whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.”  Schmitt wrote to members of the Cabinet that “while Vice President Harris may have deficiencies to effectively serve as the Acting President in any way that benefits the American people, she has not displayed a medical, incurable inability to discharge the powers and duties of the Presidency, unlike President Biden.”  Schmitt wrote that “the same Democrat elites that forced President Biden’s hand over the past several weeks did so long after the American people could see his inability to discharge his powers and duties.”  “He should have never stood for reelection through the primaries. Rather than allow the voice of the people to speak through the democratic process of primary elections, the Democratic party insiders and megadonors will now have the opportunity to pick a new candidate in a crony-filled backroom of their convention,” he wrote. “In 2024, the Democratic Party is anything but democratic.”  Schmitt urged the Cabinet secretaries to take action “for the sake of our nation.”  “We cannot wait until January 20, 2025 for a mentally capable President,” Schmitt wrote. “The stakes are too important given the domestic and foreign challenges the United States is currently facing.”  Schmitt said Americans “cannot afford a part-time President.”  “I urge you to fulfill your constitutional duty and relieve President Biden of his constitutional powers and duties,” he wrote. “If he is medically unable to be a candidate for Presidency (after he won the primary), then he is unable to unable to discharge the powers and duties of the Presidency today.”  The White House did not immediately respond to Fox News digital’s request for comment.

Dearborn’s anti-Biden activists won’t rubber-stamp president’s Harris endorsement

Dearborn’s anti-Biden activists won’t rubber-stamp president’s Harris endorsement

Activists in Dearborn, Michigan, who led the resistance against President Biden in response to his support for Israel won’t so easily come back to the Democratic Party now that he has dropped out of the race. “There is not an automatic endorsement by the community of Harris just because Biden stepped down,” Samraa Luqman, who has served as co-chair for the Abandon Biden campaign, said of her personal feelings on the state of the race. “She was part of the Biden administration, so she’s going to be associated with all of his policies and all of his rhetoric. She might come with a $100 million war chest, but she comes with his baggage as well.” Luqman’s comments come after Biden announced on social media Sunday that he was dropping out of the 2024 race, a decision that was made after weeks of increasing pressure from fellow Democrats to pass the torch amid fears over his physical and mental ability to continue the campaign. Such a decision was cause for celebration in Dearborn, Luqman said, noting that she believes Biden’s unpopularity among members of her community played a role in the president’s decision. DEARBORN ‘UNCOMMITTEDS’ PLAN TO MAKE ‘EXAMPLE’ OF BIDEN, TURN PARTY AGAINST JEWISH STATE Dearborn, a suburb of Detroit that has the highest per capita Muslim population in the country, became the center of the resistance to Biden during Michigan’s primary in March, with more than 100,000 voters marking “uncommitted” on their ballots instead of supporting the president’s re-election bid. The vast majority of those who turned on Biden in March were longtime Democrats who had voted for the president in 2020, but his handling of the conflict in Gaza had caused many in Dearborn to reach their breaking point. “This is absolutely phenomenal and historical,” Luqman said of Biden’s decision to drop out. “And I want it to absolutely be known and give credit where credit is due. It is not due to the fact that Biden had a bad performance in the debate… it is due to his bad polling numbers.” Biden’s outlook in the polls had continued to deteriorate over July, with most national polls showing the president trailing former President Trump. Worse for Biden, most polls also showed him behind in almost every important swing state, including Michigan. A new Detroit Free Press poll released just hours before Biden announced his decision showed the president trailing Trump by seven points in the crucial swing state of Michigan, a devastating deficit in an almost must-win state for Democrats. Luqman credits her community for contributing to that deficit, making the path to victory for Biden too difficult to remain in the race. ‘DEATH TO AMERICA,’ ‘DEATH TO ISRAEL’ CHANTS POUR OUT OF MUSLIM PROTESTERS IN MICHIGAN ON LAST DAY OF RAMADAN But Luqman made clear that people in the community won’t easily run back to Democrats, with many planning to support a third-party candidate or even Trump in November instead of Biden’s handpicked successor, Vice President Kamala Harris. “You’re hearing a lot of people who are so upset and so burned by Biden, that there is a rejection of the Democratic Party altogether, who are still saying, even if it were Harris, we will not vote for the Democratic nominee,” Luqman said, adding that some members of the community may for vote Green Party candidate Jill Stein or “go with a Republican out of spite.” “We saw this kind of shift… right after the Iraq War 20 years ago, where the entire Arab Muslim community shifted to the Democratic Party and stayed that way for two decades now,” Luqman added. “It looks like that pendulum is swinging again toward the Republican side now.” Abed Ayoub, the national executive director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, echoed a similar sentiment, saying that for the Muslim community in Dearborn and elsewhere, Biden’s decision to step down was a welcome “relief.” Nevertheless, Ayoub made clear that the issue just wasn’t with “Biden himself,” but the administration’s policy on the Middle East and around the globe. BIDEN CAMPAIGN: WE DON’T WANT THE VOTES OF ‘DEATH TO AMERICA’ PROTESTERS IN MICHIGAN “These are serious issues for the Arab community and how different is Harris going to be on that? What can she bring to the tale that’s different?” Ayoub asked. Ayoub made clear that many in the community will listen to what Harris has to say but that earning their support will not be automatic, noting that both the Stein and Trump campaigns have done good outreach to local voters. “It opens the door wide open for Democrats to win back many of the ones that Biden has lost,” Ayoub said, while noting that many will still support Stein or even Trump. “His outreach now is much better, much different than it was in 2016 and 2020,” Ayoub said of Trump. Steven Stalinsky, the executive director of the Middle East Media Research Institute, told Fox News Digital that while it is unlikely many of the activists who turned on Biden will back Harris, it is also unlikely the Dearborn and Muslim community will see a major candidate that fits the profile they are demanding. “I think most of the Arab and Muslim leadership and Islamist activists in Dearborn and in Michigan have constantly reiterated that Harris is no better than Biden and that they see no difference between them. Early comments indicate that she would have to be more anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian, including in her VP pick, for them to reconsider their stance,” Stalinsky said. “In their celebrations of Biden’s announcement over the past day, they take credit for his retirement. They also do not realize that average Americans are much more pro-Israel than their own vocal groups of supporters in a handful of states are. Furthermore, they mistakenly believe that everyone who did not vote for Biden in the primary was rejecting him because he was pro-Israel.” Meanwhile, frustration with the Democratic Party’s process for replacing Biden on the ticket has already

‘Unfathomable’: Andy Biggs demands documentary proof of Trump PA rally safety prep after explosive hearing

FIRST ON FOX: Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., is calling on U.S. Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to back up her testimony in Monday’s explosive hearing with hard proof. Biggs sent a letter to Cheatle shortly after her House Oversight Committee hearing concluded, asking her to turn over documentation related to safety measures, security perimeters, personnel and other notes related to law enforcement’s preparation for former President Trump’s July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. A 20-year-old gunman opened fire at the event, killing one attendee and wounding two others. The shooter was killed by Secret Service snipers. TRUMP SHOOTING: TIMELINE OF ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT RAISES QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW GUNMAN EVADED SECURITY Trump himself was shot in the upper part of his right ear and was rushed offstage by Secret Service agents. “As you are aware, The United States House of Representatives is investigating the United States Secret Service’s…preparation for, and response to the attempted assassination of President Donald J. Trump on July 13, 2024, which resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore, serious injury to two other attendees, and nearly resulted in the first assassination of a candidate for President in nearly 60 years,” Biggs wrote to Cheatle. “It is unfathomable that an assassin was able to gain access to and fire shots at President Trump from an unsecure building with a direct line of sight to the rally stage. It is equally unfathomable that public reporting suggests that U.S. Secret Service had identified the building as a potential vulnerability and failed to include that vulnerability within the security perimeter or otherwise ensure its security.” TOP REPUBLICAN WARNS OF ‘RUDE AWAKENING’ IF ‘STONEWALLING’ CONTINUES AS SECRET SERVICE FACES HEARING Biggs accused the Secret Service of having “failed its no-fail mission” that day. It comes after a marathon hearing on Monday in which lawmakers on both sides of the aisle expressed frustration with Cheatle’s apparent lack of candor in her answers. At least two House Democrats are now calling on her to resign. Biggs was among those who told Cheatle point-blank to step down from her role: “You should have come today ready to give us answers. I call upon you to resign today.” Fox News Digital reached out to the Secret Service for comment. TRUMP SHOOTER THOMAS MATTHEW CROOKS’ PARENTS REGISTERED PENNSYLVANIA PROFESSIONAL COUNSELORS: RECORDS CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP The letter comes as the House gears up for an expected vote on establishing a bipartisan commission to investigate the shooting sometime this week. It’s also being sent a day after Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced a 45-day independent review of the assassination attempt against Trump.
