Major Democrat demands Secret Service protection for RFK, Jr after suspected Trump assassination attempt

A major Democrat is demanding independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. be provided Secret Service protection following the suspected assassination attempt on former President Trump. Colorado Gov. Jared Polis took to social media just hours after the shooting at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, calling on President Biden to change his administration’s previous decision to deny Kennedy Secret Service protection. “I encourage [Biden] to immediately provide secret service protection for [Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.],” Polis wrote on X. SUSPECTED TRUMP ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT SHINES LIGHT ON RALLY SECURITY Kennedy’s campaign racked up $1.4 million in debt by early spring to a private security firm, while the Biden administration has repeatedly denied his requests for Secret Service protection.  Kennedy has assailed Biden for having rejected at least three requests for protection while on the 2024 campaign trail, going back to last year. The Biden administration has maintained that Secret Service protection for Kennedy “is not warranted,” according to a letter obtained by Deseret News. According to Kennedy, that was despite several documented death threats against him.  ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON TRUMP AT PENNSYLVANIA RALLY LEAVES 2 HURT, 2 DEAD INCLUDING SHOOTER Kennedy’s father, the late former Democratic New York senator and U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, and uncle, the late former President John F. Kennedy, were both assassinated in the 1960s. Trump rally assassination attempt witness says ‘everybody hit ground,’ were left ‘stunned’ following gunfire

A woman who was at former President Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday described the moment she and “everybody hit the ground” during the possible assassination attempt. Saurabh Sharma, the president of American Moment, a Washington D.C.-based training nonprofit, told Fox News Digital that audience members initially thought the gunfire was fireworks and “instantly hit the ground.” “I remember hearing two sounds. They were pretty light,” Sharma said. “We thought they were fireworks, but everyone instantly hit the ground. I think the president hit the ground as well. And the Secret Service obviously swarmed over him.” She said that attendees started to look around, but others encouraged people to “stay down.” SHOOTING AT TRUMP RALLY BEING INVESTIGATED AS POSSIBLE ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT Sharma shared that she spotted the former president and the presumptive Republican presidential nominee waving to the audience and “pumping his fist.” She said that he “seemed okay.” “I couldn’t see blood from my angle,” she said. “I only saw the blood in the videos.” The rally attendee said that the “real story” was to the left of the stage at Butler Farm Show grounds. “They [Secret Service personnel] went down the stage behind where everything was set up,” she said. “There was a huge commotion in the bleachers.” ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON TRUMP AT PENNSYLVANIA RALLY LEAVES 2 HURT, 2 DEAD, INCLUDING SHOOTER “There was a lot of blood,” Sharma said. “You could see a lot of people that had blood on their shirts, and it looked like a body got carried out.” Sharma said that the people who attended the event in the pivotal battleground state were left “stunned.” “That whole rally was pretty, pretty stunned by the whole thing,” she said. “People weren’t really loud. They were muttering to themselves.” “No one seemed freaked out either,” she said. “They were just in a little bit of a daze walking out. There was a single scream.” Sharma added that the atmosphere following the gunfire was one of “stunned silence” rather than a “stampeding to leave.” “But stunned silence was really the feeling. And on the walk out, everyone was pretty somber,” she said. “No one was in a rush or stampeding to leave.” She said that people were left wondering if the former president was “okay” and a “couple of people were crying.” Sharma said that one woman kept repeating, “They tried to kill him, they tried to kill him.” “It was a pretty strange scene,” she said. Sharma said that there are “no rules” in this election cycle, saying that it’s a “crazy, crazy time in the country.” TRUMP RETURNS TO PENNSYLVANIA FOR PRE-CONVENTION RALLY IN SWING STATE “I think this is going to make the RNC have the gravity that it would have never had,” she said. “It’s one of those times in American history where all bets are off. Mayorkas denied ‘repeated requests’ for more Secret Service protection for Trump, GOP lawmaker says

A House Republican lawmaker is alleging that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas denied stronger Secret Service protection for former President Trump multiple times. Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., made the accusation hours after Trump was grazed by a bullet at his Saturday Pennsylvania rally. “I have very reliable sources telling me there have been repeated requests for stronger secret service protection for President Trump. Denied by Secretary Mayorkas,” Waltz wrote on X. The House Homeland Security Committee is planning on investigating reports that Trump was denied stronger Secret Service protection before the rally, a source told Fox News Digital. TRUMP RETURNS TO PENNSYLVANIA FOR PRE-CONVENTION RALLY IN SWING STATE “The Committee has seen these reports, as well, and are going to be conducting thorough oversight into what happened both leading up to and in the immediate aftermath of the attempted assassination of President Trump. Obviously, such reports are deeply troubling and demand investigation,” the source said. One rally attendee was killed, and two others were injured after a shooter opened fire at the former president’s campaign rally, according to a Secret Service statement. The shooter was also killed. Waltz, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, would not elaborate on his comments when Fox News Digital reached out to his office. Fox News Digital also reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for comment. That’s in addition to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., who publicly called on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheadle to publicly testify before his panel.  “The Oversight Committee will send a formal invitation soon,” he wrote on X. President Biden was seen leaving Mass at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, just minutes after an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.  Photos exclusively obtained by Fox News Digital show Biden leaving church at 6:20 p.m. Saturday, putting on a black baseball cap as he walked out of church flanked by allies and Secret Service members.  The photos were taken roughly five minutes after Trump was injured by a shooter at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, which is located about an hour north of Pittsburgh. Fox News confirmed the attack is being investigated as an assassination attempt.  Trump was seen grabbing his right ear before hitting the ground and Secret Service members then surrounding him. He was then escorted off the stage by the Secret Service, with his right ear covered in blood.  BIDEN CAMPAIGN PULLING ADS IN WAKE OF TRUMP RALLY SHOOTING “Fight!” Trump appeared to yell at the crowd while giving a fist bump. After former President Trump was wounded in an assassination attempt at a Pennsylvania rally, his campaign and Republican National Committee brass jointly said he will still be going to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention this upcoming week. Trump had blood visibly pouring from near his right earlobe after gunfire was heard at the Butler Farm Show grounds about an hour north of Pittsburgh earlier Saturday. The incident is being investigated as an assassination attempt, according to Fox News sources. “As was communicated earlier this evening, President Trump is doing well and grateful to law enforcement and first responders for their fast action,” a joint statement from Trump, his campaign leaders and RNC brass said late Saturday. “President Trump looks forward to joining you all in Milwaukee as we proceed with our convention to nominate him to serve as the 47th President of the United States,” the statement continued. “As our party’s nominee, President Trump will continue to share his vision to Make America Great Again.” TRUMP RALLY SHOOTING BEING INVESTIGATED AS ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT: SOURCES The release was signed by Donald Trump for President 2024 senior advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, along with RNC chairman Michael Whatley and co-chairwoman Lara Trump. Suspected Trump assassination attempt shines light on rally security

Suspected Trump assassination attempt shines light on rally security

The assassination attempt, as it is being described by Fox News sources, against former President Trump at his Saturday rally in Pennsylvania is shining light on the security process for those in attendance. Press and general attendees all go through a rigorous screening process operated by the Secret Service, which includes detailed searches of everyone entering into a rally venue. The press is screened in a separate que than the public, and are usually told to remove all electronic equipment and metal, similar to the screening process of an airport. ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT ON TRUMP AT PENNSYLVANIA RALLY LEAVES 2 HURT, 2 DEAD INCLUDING SHOOTER Secret Service, when necessary, relies on Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents from nearby towns to help with screening, but its unclear if that was the case for Trump’s Saturday rally. When a rally is held outside, as was Saturday’s, the Secret Service still sets up tents, tables and magnetometers common at large events. Trump, as a former president, still has a significant Secret Service detail, and anyone meeting with the president or in proximity must be cleared. Traditionally, this is done with a social security number, date of birth, and other vital information. SPORTS STARS REACT TO SHOOTING AT DONALD TRUMP RALLY The Secret Service confirmed in a statement following the shooting that “a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue.” It’s unclear at this time at what point the shooter was detected or how he was able to get within full view of Trump unhindered. Trump took to Truth Social just hours after the shooting, praising the Secret Service for their actions in protecting him. “I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania,” Trump wrote. “Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.”  CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP “It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country.
