Amid suspense over former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren’s next move, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Sunday “welcomed” him in the “NDA family. “In a post on X, he described Soren as a “tiger” and said that he was and will “remain a tiger.”
2024 showdown: Harris appears to call Trump a ‘coward’ in campaign trail appearance

PITTSBURGH — Vice President Harris on Sunday appeared to label former President Trump a “coward” during a stop Sunday in the crucial battleground state of Pennsylvania. Speaking to a crowd of staff, volunteers and supporters at a campaign field office in Beaver County, just outside of Pittsburgh, the vice president contrasted her leadership style with that of Trump, who’s long been known for his in-your-face campaign rhetoric, including insulting his rivals, as he’s flamed the politics of division. “This campaign is about a recognition that, frankly, over the last several years there’s been this kind of perversion that has taken place, I think, which is to suggest that the measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you beat down. When what we know is the real and true measure of the strength of a leader is based on who you lift up,” Harris said. Then, apparently pointing toward Trump without mentioning her presidential election rival by name, Harris said “anybody who’s about beating down other people is a coward.” HARRIS, TRUMP HOLD DUELING EVENTS IN FIGHT TO WIN BIGGEST BATTLEGROUND Responding, Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung pointed to the lack of a major news conference or media interview by Harris in the four weeks since she replaced President Biden at the top of the Democrats’ 2024 ticket. “The Kamala campaign – liars, frauds, and cowards. She can’t even do a sit-down interview or press conference – not even with a friendly outlet – because she’s scared to death of being exposed for the coward and fraud that she is,” Cheung said in a statement to Fox News. TRUMP RUNNING MATE VANCE AIMS TO TURN BLUE WALL STATES RED The stop in Rochester, Pennsylvania, was the first by Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, after they kicked off a campaign bus tour at nearby Pittsburgh International Airport earlier in the afternoon. The barnstorming tour through western Pennsylvania by Harris and Walz and their spouses, second gentleman Doug Emhoff and Minnesota first lady Gwen Walz, came on the eve of the kickoff of the Democratic National Convention, which is being held in Chicago. With 19 electoral votes up for grabs, Pennsylvania is the largest prize among the seven battleground states that will likely decide the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. HARRIS AND TRUMP TRADE FIRE IN BATTLE FOR THE BLUE WALL STATES “We’re winning by a lot in Pennsylvania,” Trump declared on Saturday as he held a rally in Wilkes Barre in the northeast corner of the Keystone State. But an average of all the polls conducted in Pennsylvania since Harris replaced Biden at the top of the Democrats’ national ticket four weeks ago indicates it is all tied up. Both campaigns have been placing plenty of emphasis on the state. Harris made Philadelphia her first stop of her first battleground state swing after announcing Walz as her running mate. And Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, will hold separate events focusing on the economy in Pennsylvania on Monday. Harris re-energizes Black voters in key states, poll finds

Vice President Kamala Harris’ rise to the top of the Democratic ticket has re-energized Black voters in the key swing states of Michigan and Pennsylvania. Harris leads former President Trump 70%-9% among Black voters in Michigan and 70%-11% among Black voters in Pennsylvania, according to the results of a Suffolk University/USA Today poll released Sunday. The results show that Harris has recovered some of the enthusiasm lost when President Biden was at the top of the ticket, with the Suffolk University/USA Today poll finding in June that Biden only led Trump 54%-15% among Black voters in Michigan and 56%-11% among Black voters in Pennsylvania. TRUMP RUNNING MATE VANCE AIMS TO TURN BLUE WALL STATES RED “There is no question that Harris at the top of the ticket has caused an immediate jump in support at the expense of all other candidates and categories,” David Paleologos, the director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, said in a press release about the new poll. “She is well on her way to unifying the Black community, though she’s still short of the kind of Black voter margins that she must secure to win states like Michigan and Pennsylvania.” Biden’s slide with Black voters, a critical demographic for Democrats, was of particular concern to the party in the weeks leading up to his decision to drop out of the race. According to exit polls from 2020, Biden won over Black voters 92%-7% in both Michigan and Pennsylvania, two critical swing states likely to determine the outcome of the election. TRUMP HAS TAKEN 81 QUESTIONS AT PRESS CONFERENCES, INTERVIEWS COMPARED TO HARRIS’ 14 SINCE WALZ JOINED TICKET Black voters in both states were asked if they believed Harris represented them, with 61% of Michigan Black voters saying she represents “people like me,” while 27% indicated she did not represent Black voters. In Pennsylvania, 58% of Black voters indicated that Harris represents people like them, while 30% indicated she does not. The Suffolk University/USA Today poll was conducted between Aug. 11-14, surveying 500 Black voters in both states. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.
UK to conduct review on tackling ‘extremist ideologies’, including misogyny

Misogyny, ‘Islamism’ and far-right ‘extremism’ among trends to be analysed, Home Office says. UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has ordered a review of the United Kingdom’s counterterrorism strategy on how to best tackle threats by “extremist ideologies” including misogyny. Other ideological trends to be investigated by the Home Office include “Islamism” and far-right “extremism”. Cooper said the strategy will “map and monitor extremist trends” and gauge how to direct people away from them. Around 460 people have so far appeared in magistrates’ courts relating to UK-wide riots in late July and early August that were sparked by disinformation regarding the suspect in a knife attack in Southport, Sky News reported. At least 72 people under the age of 18 are believed to have been charged. Several were charged for publishing material that contributed to the riots, including publishing written material to stir up racial hatred. While the riots were primarily instigated by far-right provocateurs, many of these figures have also doubled up in the past and peddled misogyny. One social media influencer blamed for spreading false information about incidents that led to the riots is Andrew Tate, who is regularly accused of advancing messaging that is prejudiced against women. Misogyny goes beyond just words, and physical violence against women is still widespread in the UK, with a woman killed by a man every three days, according to the campaign group Femicide Census. The rise in misogyny has also been linked to “incel” culture, referring to people – usually men – who call themselves “involuntarily celibate”, and take out their anger on women and wider society. Jake Davison, 22, killed five people in Plymouth in 2021 before fatally shooting himself, in an incident that was linked to incel ideology. “For too long, governments have failed to address the rise in extremism, both online and on our streets, and we’ve seen the number of young people radicalised online grow,” Cooper, who is part of the UK’s new Labour government, said. “That’s why I have directed the Home Office to conduct a rapid analytical sprint on extremism, to map and monitor extremist trends, to understand the evidence about what works to disrupt and divert people away from extremist views, and to identify any gaps in existing policy which need to be addressed to crack down on those pushing harmful and hateful beliefs and violence.” The review is meant to form a new counter-extremism strategy for the UK. Cooper has previously criticised the previous Conservative government on the issue, saying that its strategy had lacked practical plans. Adblock test (Why?)
Trump vs Harris: Who’s winning over more Americans?

As the new face of the Democrats, Harris is in the ‘honeymoon phase’. But can she beat Trump in November? By replacing President Joe Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party has brought new life to an abysmal presidential campaign. But with more than two months to go before the elections, US public opinion is evenly divided between her and Republican candidate Donald Trump. Harris has painted herself as the young, forward-looking alternative for the country, “and has now made Trump look small and backward”, argues Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg. But as McClatchy national politics correspondent David Catanese points out, the Democrats are vulnerable on immigration and the economy, so the race is far from over. Adblock test (Why?)
Cholera outbreak in Sudan killed at least 22 people, health minister says

Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim has declared a cholera epidemic due to contaminated drinking water and weather conditions. Sudan has been stricken by a cholera outbreak that has killed nearly two dozen people and sickened hundreds more in recent weeks, health authorities said. Health Minister Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim said in a statement on Sunday that at least 22 people have died from the disease, and that at least 354 confirmed cases of cholera have been detected across the war-torn country in recent weeks. On Saturday, he declared a cholera epidemic in Sudan and noted that the outbreak was “because of the weather conditions and because drinking water has been contaminated”. He said the decision was taken in conjunction with authorities in the eastern state of Kassala, United Nations agencies and experts after the “discovery by the public health laboratory of the cholera virus”. An official from the World Health Organization (WHO), Margaret Harris, said in a media call on Friday that 11,327 cholera cases with 316 deaths had been reported in Sudan so far. “We expect to have more than has been reported,” she added. Cholera is a fast-developing, highly contagious infection that causes diarrhoea, leading to severe dehydration and possible death within hours when not treated, according to the WHO. It is transmitted through the ingestion of contaminated food or water and can kill within hours without treatment. Children under five are at particular risk. Cholera is not uncommon in Sudan. A previous major outbreak left at least 700 dead and sickened about 22,000 in less than two months in 2017. But the outbreak of the disease is the latest calamity for the region. Devastating seasonal floods in recent weeks have also compounded the misery. Dozens of people have been killed and critical infrastructure has been washed away in 12 of Sudan’s 18 provinces, according to local authorities. About 118,000 people have been displaced due to the floods, according to the United Nations’ migration agency. To complicate the situation, the civil war, which began in April last year when simmering tensions between the military and a powerful paramilitary group exploded into open warfare across the country, has plunged the region into chaos. The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) – under Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, better known as “Hemedti” – have been vying for power and control of the African country of 46 million people. The conflict has turned the capital Khartoum and other urban areas into battlefields, wrecking civilian infrastructure and an already battered healthcare system. Without the basics, many hospitals and medical facilities have closed their doors. The war has also killed thousands of people, displaced more than 10.7 million people and pushed many into starvation, with famine already confirmed in a sprawling camp for displaced people in the wrecked northern region of Darfur. A new round of talks aimed at ending the 16-month conflict in Sudan began in Switzerland on Wednesday, despite the army’s absence. The United States, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, the African Union, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations are trying to steer the Sudanese army and the RSF into ceasefire talks. On Sunday, Sudan’s military-controlled sovereign council said it will send a government delegation to meet with US officials in Cairo amid mounting US pressure on the military to join the ongoing truce talks in Switzerland. Graham urges Trump to focus on policy against Harris, warns ‘showman’ might not win

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., says policy is the GOP’s key to the White House, and urges former President Trump to focus on that rather than his opponent. “Donald Trump, President Trump, can win this election,” Graham said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “His policies are good for America. And if you have a policy debate for president, he wins. Donald Trump, the provocateur, the showman may not win this election.” The response followed a question by host Kristen Welker on whether Trump should stop making personal remarks about Vice President Harris regarding characteristics like race and intelligence. “I’m looking for President Trump to show up in the last 80 days to define what he will do for our country, to fix broken borders, to lower inflation,” Graham continued. “The numbers that Americans are living with under Harris-Biden, a terrible 50% increase in gas prices, mortgage rates going through the roof, grocery costs are really high. That’s what I would focus on. Policy. Policy is the key to the White House.” SOUTH CAROLINA SENATOR WARNS TRUMP TO FOCUS ON HARRIS’ ‘DANGEROUS LIBERAL’ RECORD, NOT HERITAGE The GOP senator offered similar advice two weeks ago while on “Fox News Sunday.” “So, here’s what I would say to President Trump. The problem I have with Kamala Harris is not her heritage, it’s her judgment,” Graham said. “She has been wrong about everything. When she tried to explain what she would do about inflation and an upcoming recession, it made no sense. It’s gibberish.” WHITE HOUSE FIRES BACK AFTER TRUMP ANSWERS QUESTION ABOUT HARRIS BEING CALLED A ‘DEI HIRE’ Trump posted an image of Harris’ birth certificate on Truth Social after receiving a lot of criticism for remarks he made during a Q&A session at the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago. “She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage,” the former president said during the Q&A. “I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now, she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know. Is she Indian or is she Black?” Both Harris and Trump campaigned this weekend in battleground Pennsylvania. Harris is expected to formally accept the Democratic presidential nomination at the 2024 Democratic National Convention this week in Chicago. Fox News’ Greg Wehner contributed to this report.

Vance dismisses polls that show Harris ahead: ‘Wildly inaccurate’

Ohio Sen. JD Vance dismissed polling that shows Vice President Kamala Harris has taken the lead nationally and in key battleground states, arguing that the same polls were inaccurate in 2016 and 2020. “The polls tend to radically overstate Democrats, we certainly saw that during the summer of 2020 and summer of 2016 and, of course, a lot of those polls were wrong when it came to Election Day,” Vance said during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.” The comments came after Fox News’ Shannon Bream told Vance about a recent New York Times poll that showed Harris ahead of former President Trump in Arizona and North Carolina at the same time as she has narrowed Trump’s lead “significantly” in Georgia and Nevada. TRUMP RUNNING MATE VANCE AIMS TO TURN BLUE WALL STATES RED “What we have certainly seen is that Kamala Harris got a bit of a sugar high a couple of weeks ago, but what we’ve actually seen from our own internal data is that Kamala Harris has already leveled off,” Vance said. “If you talk to insiders in the Kamala Harris campaign, they’re very worried about where they are because the American people just don’t buy the idea that Kamala Harris, who has been vice president for three and a half years, is somehow going to tackle the inflation crisis in a way tomorrow that she hasn’t for the past 1,300 days.” Confronted with an ABC News/Washington Post poll that showed Harris with a 4-5 point lead over Trump nationally, Vance argued that the same poll has been off during past elections. “I think there are a lot of polls that actually show her stagnating and leveling off,” Vance said. “ABC/Washington Post was a wildly inaccurate polster in the summer of 2020.” TRUMP HAS TAKEN 81 QUESTIONS AT PRESS CONFERENCES, INTERVIEWS COMPARED TO HARRIS’ 14 SINCE WALZ JOINED TICKET According to the Real Clear Politics polling average, Harris took the national lead over Trump for the first time on Aug. 5 and has since grown that lead to 1.4 points. The polling average also shows Harris with slim leads in the battlegrounds of Arizona, Wisconsin and Michigan, while Trump holds slim leads in Nevada, North Carolina and Georgia. Pennsylvania, meanwhile, is currently tied, the Real Clear Politics polling average shows. Nevertheless, Vance argued that the Trump campaign cannot worry about polls and instead has to continue to work to get their message out. “If you see the numbers that we’re seeing, and you actually talk to the American people, I feel extremely confident we’re going to be in the right place come November,” Vance said. “We can’t worry about polls, we have to run through the finish line, and encourage everybody to get out there and vote.”
Chechen leader drives gun-mounted Tesla Cybertruck in video praising Elon Musk

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov posted a video of himself driving a Tesla Cybertruck with a gun mounted on the back. “I express my sincere gratitude to Elon Musk. This is, of course, the strongest genius of our time and a specialist. A great man,” Kadyrov said in a post on Telegram that was translated by the Moscow Times. According to the Moscow Times report on the post, Kadyrov also invited Musk to visit him in Russia. X MELTS DOWN AFTER TRUMP-MUSK’S INTERVIEW ‘SPACE’ IMMEDIATELY CRASHES Kadyrov, who has ruled Chechnya, a Russian republic, for 17 years, has long been a dependable ally of President Vladimir Putin. The 47-year-old leader has boasted that he has deployed thousands of troops to aid Putin’s war in Ukraine, adding in the Telegram post that he hoped to send the gun-mounted Cybertruck to the front lines of the war. “Based on such excellent characteristics, the Cybertruck will soon be sent to the area of the special military operation, where it will be in demand in the appropriate conditions,” Kadyrov said in the post. The Cybertruck, an electric pickup developed by Musk’s Tesla, was unveiled by the company in 2019 and began production last year.
