Trump-backed Rep. Celeste Maloy wins GOP nomination in Utah’s 2nd district

Rep. Celeste Maloy, R-Utah won Tuesday’s Utah Republican primary election for the state’s 2nd congressional district. Maloy faced off against her combat veteran challenger Colby Jenkins. Maloy will take on the Democratic nominee come November. Utah’s 2nd district, which includes cities such as Cedar City and St. George, has been a reliably Republican voting district and is considered non-competitive going into the general election. The district’s Republican primary featured the involvement of several influential figures, including former President Trump, who endorsed Maloy earlier this month. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, weighed in on the race much earlier, endorsing Jenkins in April. “Too many Republicans in Congress have voted to expand the size, scope and cost of the federal government, in many cases deferring to congressional GOP leaders bent on advancing the Democrats’ agenda. Now more than ever we need bold conservatives in Congress,” the conservative Republican said at the time. “We need Colby Jenkins. His commitment to the Constitution, fiscal responsibility, limited government, and individual liberty make him the best candidate to represent Utah’s values in Washington.” ELECTION OFFICIALS IN ALL 50 STATES URGED TO SEEK INFO FROM BIDEN ADMIN TO PREVENT NONCITIZENS FROM VOTING After gaining Lee’s surprise endorsement, Jenkins went on to defeat Maloy at the Utah GOP nominating convention 57%-43%. They both ultimately moved on to the primary, according to Deseret News. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., also endorsed the Republican challenger. The two Republican senators even cut a promotional video for Jenkins that was posted on the candidate’s YouTube channel. Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy backed Jenkins too, calling him “America first,” and crediting Lee with having introduced them. HOW TO WATCH THE CNN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE SIMULCAST ON THE FOX NEWS CHANNEL In addition to Trump’s support, incumbent Maloy boasted the backing of House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and that of the three other Republican House members from Utah, Reps. Blake Moore, John Curtis, and Burgess Owens. Lee had notably spent time ahead of the primary election espousing his support for Jenkins on social media and urging Utahns to vote. ‘GREATEST THREAT’: FORMER TOP KAMALA HARRIS AIDE REVEALS WHICH TRUMP VP PICK COULD SINK HER CANDIDACY “1. Who has already voted for Colby Jenkins? 2. Who plans to vote for Colby Jenkins, either today or tomorrow? 3. Who would eagerly vote for Colby Jenkins, if only they lived in Utah’s second congressional district? I’m in category 3. How about you?” the senator wrote on one of his X accounts on Monday. Maloy assumed the House seat after winning a special election in November 2023 to succeed former U.S. Rep. Chris Stewart. In her short time in the lower chamber, Jenkins pointed to Maloy’s voting record and criticized her for compromising with Democrats on spending bills and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) reauthorization. In response to his criticism during a debate earlier this month, Maloy said, “Angry talking points and hyperbole and hardline stances aren’t really a formula for winning, but they do sound really nice on the campaign flayer,” reported Deseret News. According to an analysis by the Cook Political Report, Minnesota’s 1st District is “solid” Republican. MINNESOTA RIOTS CONTINUED AFTER WALZ TOOK ‘RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE’ THERE WOULDN’T BE CHAOS The incumbent was matched up with a unique challenger in Tweten, a licensed therapist who leaned heavily on his experience in the profession during the race, going so far as to make his campaign slogan, “Washington needs a therapist.” MINNESOTA BUSINESS OWNER TEARS INTO WALZ FOR COVID, BLM RIOT LEADERSHIP: A ‘TOTAL AND COMPLETE FAILURE’ According to a report from the Post Bulletin, Tweten promised to use the same techniques he uses in couple’s therapy in Congress, reasoning that he could broker more bipartisan agreement between two parties more apt to hurl insults and attacks at each other. Bohman will now face the Republican incumbent in the general election. She was the only candidate in the district’s Democratic primary. The district, which Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz represented from 2007-2019, has been held by a Republican in the five years since Walz, now the Democrats’ nominee for vice president, left the House for the governor’s mansion.

On Tuesday, Republican Purnima Nath was defeated by Tim Rogers in a primary contest, setting up a face-off in November to unseat Democratic Rep. Gwen Moore in Wisconsin’s 4th district. Nath emigrated from India and describes her work as management consulting. Rogers is a Milwaukee native and has run against Moore in 4 consecutive elections. He has never cracked 23% of the vote. GOP Rep. Tom Emmer wins GOP primary battle for Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer defeated challenger Chris Corey in the Republican primary for Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District on Tuesday. He now goes on to face the winner of the race between Jeanne Hendricks and Austin Winkelman, who faced off in Tuesday’s Democrat primary in the district, which the Cook Political Report rates as “solid” Republican. The race pitted Emmer, the current House majority whip, and Corey, a professional golf caddy who had reportedly become disillusioned with Republican leadership. MINNESOTA RIOTS CONTINUED AFTER WALZ TOOK ‘RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE’ THERE WOULDN’T BE CHAOS Emmer, who has represented Minnesota’s 6th Congressional District since 2015, was briefly considered for the role of speaker of the House before Mike Johnson was chosen to fill the role. The incumbent Republican also served three terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives between 2005 and 2011. Corey, on the other hand, is a political outsider who expressed frustration with establishment Republican leaders such as Emmer and vowed in a letter to the Monticello Times to limit himself to a short term in office. Muslim cleric who praised Adolf Hitler, Hamas spoke at Harris running mate Tim Walz’s 2019 inauguration

A Muslim cleric who praised Adolf Hitler and commended Hamas after the militant group’s Oct. 7 attack on Israel spoke at the inauguration of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz in 2019. Imam Asad Zaman, executive director of the Muslim American Society in Minnesota, shared the stage with the Democratic governor on Jan. 7, 2019. “Thank God this team is finally going to be in charge,” Zaman said of Walz’s incoming administration. “I congratulate you for stepping forward to serve the people of Minnesota, and I remind you of the trust you have chosen to undertake. Empower them with courage to render social justice to all our people. Make it easy for them to help our people and make it hard for them to hurt our people.” Zaman said the people of Minnesota have entrusted in Walz “their hopes and aspirations for social justice and well-being.” “We look to you to build upon the past successes of our great state,” Zaman said. “We remind you of the many structural injustices that need to be addressed, so justice can be brought forth.” As previously reported by Fox News Digital, Zaman, who is originally from Bangladesh, has used his Facebook page to share official Hamas press releases, blog posts from antisemitic sites and a 2015 link to a pro-Hitler film, “The Greatest Story Never Told.” Released in 2013, the propaganda film is antisemitic and popular among fringe groups, according to the Anti-Defamation League. MINNESOTA GRANDMA JAILED FOR DEFYING WALZ COVID LOCKDOWN ORDERS: ‘YOU DO NOT WANT TYRANNY AT THIS LEVEL’ The 2019 inauguration adds to the list of appearances Walz and Zaman have made together dating back to at least 2018. In April 2019, Zaman delivered an invocation at Walz’s state address and had called for an end to a government shutdown alongside Walz in January 2019, the Washington Examiner first reported. In May 2023, Zaman attended a mosque security meeting with Walz’s gubernatorial office. Walz’s administration has also donated over $100,000 to Zaman’s group, Muslim American Society of Minnesota, according to state records reviewed by the Washington Examiner. Federal prosecutors have described the Muslim American Society as “founded as the overt arm of the Muslim Brotherhood in the U.S.,” according to court records, the outlet first reported. The Harris-Walz campaign told Fox News Digital on Tuesday that Gov. Walz and Zaman do “not have a personal relationship.” “Governor Walz strongly condemns Hamas terrorism,” the campaign said.
Trump-backed Marine veteran wins GOP primary in competitive Minnesota district

Former federal prosecutor Joe Teirab emerged as the winner in the Republican primary for Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District, setting up a competitive race against incumbent Democratic Rep. Angie Craig. Teirab defeated Tayler Rahm, according to a call from The Associated Press Tuesday evening. Teirab, who was endorsed in the race by former President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., was the better-funded candidate and was also backed by key House leaders, according to a report from The Associated Press. MINNESOTA RIOTS CONTINUED AFTER WALZ TOOK ‘RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE’ THERE WOULDN’T BE CHAOS The Trump-backed Minnesotan, who is also a Marine Corps veteran, ran virtually uncontested in the race, with his only primary opponent, Tayler Rahm, dropping out of the race last month. Nevertheless, Rahm remained on the primary ballot. According to The Associated Press report, Rahm dropped out, despite having the backing of the state GOP, to clear a path for his Trump-endorsed opponent to focus on Craig in the highly competitive district. “In my opinion, there is nothing more important for this district than getting Biden (or a Democrat replacement) out of power and getting Donald Trump back in the White House,” Rahm said in a statement at the time, just days before President Biden decided to drop out of the race. “Therefore, I will suspend my campaign operations and focus on doing everything possible to save our country.” MINNESOTA BUSINESS OWNER TEARS INTO WALZ FOR COVID, BLM RIOT LEADERSHIP: A ‘TOTAL AND COMPLETE FAILURE’ Craig, who is seeking a third term in office, ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. Minnesota’s 2nd District is rated as “lean” Democrat, according to the Cook Political Report. The district then swung to Biden in 2020, who topped Trump by just under seven percentage points. Before Craig’s 2018 victory in the district, it had been represented by Republicans since 2001.
Chris Murphy’s Republican challenger revealed after contentious Connecticut Senate GOP primary

Military veteran Matthew Corey has won the Republican primary to face Democratic Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy in the fall. But Smith ended the primary cycle with less cash on hand than Corey did – roughly $4,200 compared to $32,000. The primary winner now faces an uphill climb to the U.S. Senate, however – Connecticut has not elected a Republican to the Senate since 1982, according to the CT Mirror. While he’s the runaway favorite to win his seat again, the victory is nevertheless welcome padding for Democrats as they face the prospect of losing their razor-thin Senate majority.
Amy Klobuchar wins Minnesota primary to fight for fourth Senate term

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., successfully fended off her primary challengers Tuesday and is advancing to Minnesota’s general Senate election in November. Eric Hovde wins GOP Senate nod in Wisconsin, teeing up tight race against Democrat Tammy Baldwin

Businessman Eric Hovde won the Republican nomination for Senate in Wisconsin on Tuesday, setting up a competitive general election between himself and Democrat incumbent Sen. Tammy Baldwin. Hovde was endorsed by former President Trump in his primary race and has already spent a seven-figure sum on his campaign. He defeated lesser-known challengers Charles Barman and Rejani Raveendran handily in the matchup.
