Trump sells Senate Republicans on plan to win over workers in closed-door meeting

Former President Trump’s closed-door meeting with Republican senators was dominated by his pitch for a new policy position that could win over workers in key swing states ahead of the close November election. “What I think President Trump did sell us all on is don’t tax” tips, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., told Fox News Digital following the afternoon meeting at the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) headquarters in Washington, D.C. “He thinks it’s a great example of how working people in this economy just can’t get ahead,” Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., said. TOOL TO STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT EMPLOYMENT COMES TO SENATE AS BORDER CRISIS RAGES According to several GOP senators, the discussion on ending taxes on servers’ tips took up much of the meeting. “It’s actually a darn good idea,” Johnson remarked, noting he was unsure about it at first. “One of the reasons he’s doing this [is] because the Biden administration is taking on onerous reporting regulations. They want to make sure they get every tax, every little penny of tip. And this [is] just a total break from that.” RIOTER VANDALISM TARGETED AFTER DC STATUES DEFACED: ‘LONG LIVE HAMAS’ Trump introduced the proposal at a Nevada rally earlier this week, where many workers rely on tips to make their living, especially with Las Vegas’s tourism industry.  “For those hotel workers and people that get tips, you’re going to be very happy. Because when I get to office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips,” he said.  The former president told the Republican lawmakers Thursday he got the idea from a waitress who expressed the difficulty that reporting standards had posed.  FBI DIRECTOR WRAY PRESSED ON 8 ISIS-LINKED BORDER CROSSERS RELEASED INTO US “I think it’s a very symbolic group of folks, and some of the waitresses there in Vegas felt like they’re being targeted by the IRS. And, boy, it is just really tough out there from an inflation standpoint,” Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., told Fox News Digital.  A number of GOP senators, including Johnson and Marshall, came away from the afternoon meeting in support of the proposal.  ‘DESTRUCTION OF DUE PROCESS’: RAND PAUL LEADS DOZENS OF SENATORS CONDEMNING TRUMP ‘SHOW TRIAL’ IN NY The new tax policy would directly target workers who rely on tips at a time when Americans maintain unfavorable opinions on the state of the economy. Gallup found Americans’ assessments of economic conditions were the worst they had been since November 2023, with 46% rating it as poor and only 22% saying it is “excellent” or “good.”  Nevada, in particular, is considered within reach for Trump in the general election. In the latest Fox News Poll, Trump defeated President Biden, 50% to 45%. In the 2020 election, Biden won the state, 50.06% to 47.67%. The swing state is one of several that could decide the outcome of the November matchup.

‘Total lie’: Trump campaign, GOP lawmakers blast report claiming he called Milwaukee a ‘horrible city’

Republicans are coming to the defense of former President Trump after a social media firestorm erupted over a report claiming he disparaged the location of the Republican National Convention during his visit to Capitol Hill. A Punchbowl News reporter claimed that while speaking to lawmakers in Washington, D.C., Thursday, Trump said, “Milwaukee, where we are having our convention, is a horrible city.” The report prompted an immediate response from the Trump campaign and Republicans, who said they were in the room when the comment was made and that Trump’s quote was taken out of context. “Wrong,” Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung posted on X. “Total bulls—. He never said it like how it’s been falsely characterized as. He was talking about how terrible crime and voter fraud are.” TRUMP TRAVELS TO DC TO MEET WITH CONGRESSIONAL REPUBLICANS, SPEAK WITH NATION’S TOP BUSINESS EXECUTIVES Several Republican lawmakers who were in the room when Trump made the statement, some of whom represent districts in Wisconsin, also said the comment was taken out of context. “I was in the room. President Trump did not say this. There is no better place than Wisconsin in July,” Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis, said in a statement. TRUMP SET TO MEET WITH GOP LAWMAKERS IN DC: ‘PUT THIS COUNTRY BACK ON PATH TO GREATNESS’ Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., also said he was present during the remarks and that the former president “never disparaged Milwaukee.” “I was in the meeting. President Trump never disparaged Milwaukee. Just another Democrat hoax,” Banks wrote in a post on X. “Another classic example of s—– reporting by a Democratic Party shill pretending to be a journalist. Lies busy omission. @realDonaldTrump was specifically referring to the CRIME RATE in Milwaukee,” another Wisconsin representative, Rep. Derrick Van Orden, R-Wis., posted on X. “In a desperate attempt to get likes, Fake News Jake Sherman – who wasn’t even in the room – falsely claimed that President Trump called Milwaukee a ‘horrible city,’” the Trump campaign said in a press release Thursday afternoon. “It’s a total lie.” “President Trump was explicitly referring to the problems in Milwaukee, specifically violent crime and voter fraud.” Democrats weighed in on the matter as well, including President Biden, who posted on X, “I happen to love Milwaukee.” “Milwaukee makes the greatest beer, brats, and motorcycles in the world,” Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin posted on X. “It’s home to some of our most vibrant communities, hardest workers, and is a part of what makes Wisconsin the best state in the nation. Donald Trump wouldn’t understand even if a jury told him so.” “The GOP wants to enjoy Milwaukee’s hospitality while they host their convicted felon wannabe dictator coronation party – but behind closed doors, Trump and his DC cronies are insulting Milwaukee while they plot to suppress Milwaukeeans’ votes & rip away their freedoms,” Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler posted on X. “Fight back.” Sherman pushed back on those who questioned his reporting in several follow-up posts on X.  “Trump absolutely said it – undoubtedly,” Sherman posted. “People hear what they want. This is familiar to all who have covered Trump or Trump-adjacent stories for the last 10 or so years.”

Fox News Politics: Begging Her Pardon

Welcome to Fox News’ Politics newsletter with the latest political news from Washington D.C. and updates from the 2024 campaign trail.  What’s happening… – SCOTUS rules the abortion pill to stay legal, for now – Senator Fetterman responsible for Maryland car accident – Hillary Clinton endorses anti-squad Democrat Another lawmaker has urged New York’s governor to pardon former President Trump – this time, the call is coming from a Republican. Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., penned a letter to Democratic New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday, demanding she pardon former Trump following his conviction last month.  The case “undermines the impartiality and credibility of our once venerable justice system and cannot be allowed to stand,” Tenney said. The congresswoman also suggested Bragg might have broken the law in pursuing the case against Trump. Bragg “used a warped version of events to push the manufactured charges in The People v. Trump,” a decision that, at best, is “legally questionable, at worst it’s criminal,” she wrote.  Tenney pointed out that a Democrat was among the first to urge her to pardon Trump. “Even my Democratic colleague from Minnesota, Congressman Dean Phillips, has called on you to pardon President Trump. Pardoning President Trump is not a partisan issue, it’s an American issue that is necessary to preserve the integrity of our legal system.” In other pardon news, President Biden reiterated Thursday that he would not pardon his son after a Delaware jury found him guilty of federal crimes. House GOP moves to name US coastal waters after Trump

House GOP moves to name US coastal waters after Trump

FIRST ON FOX: A House GOP lawmaker is spearheading an effort to name the United States’ coastal waterways after former President Trump. Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., is introducing a bill on Friday to rename the immediate waters surrounding the U.S., called the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), as the “Donald John Trump Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States.” If passed, it would mandate the name change on any applicable laws, maps, documents and other records. WILL HUNTER BIDEN GUILTY VERDICTS ROCK HIS FATHER’S REMATCH WITH TRUMP? An EEZ refers to waterways immediately off a country’s coast where it can claim sole rights for fishing, drilling and other activities. The U.S. has the largest EEZ in the world at 4,383,000 square miles. Steube told Fox News Digital that Trump “cares about the strength and resilience of our oceans.” WHO HAS THE SLIGHT EDGE IN A KEY NORTHEASTERN PRESIDENT ELECTION BATTLEGROUND? “During his time in office, President Trump took several commendable actions for our oceans as part of his work to make America strong, secure, and economically prosperous,” he said. “I’m honored to introduce legislation that will rename our coastal waters after President Trump and serve as a reminder of his many contributions to our nation for generations to come.” His Friday bill introduction lines up with the former president’s 78th birthday. The legislation is unlikely to be taken up by the Democrat-controlled Senate, but it’s evidence of Trump’s enduring influence within the Republican Party. TRUMP RILES UP FIERY SWING STATE CROWD IN FIRST RALLY SINCE NEW YORK CONVICTION It’s the second bill proposed this year to name an internationally used entity after Trump.  Rep. Guy Reschenthaler, R-Pa., introduced a bill in April to rename Washington-Dulles International Airport to the Donald J. Trump International Airport. A few days later, a group of Democrats responded with legislation to change the name of the federal prison in Miami to the Donald J. Trump Federal Correctional Institution.

Dem-backed IVF bill slammed by GOP as broad fails in Senate vote

Dem-backed IVF bill slammed by GOP as broad fails in Senate vote

The Senate voted against a Democratic-backed bill that would expand access to and provide a “nationwide right” to in vitro fertilization (IVF) services.  The Senate voted 48 to 47 Thursday afternoon. The package’s failure came as no surprise, as Republicans were anticipated to block the legislation, who said the bill was too broad as Democrats work to amplify abortion access and reproductive issues ahead of the 2024 election.  Republicans Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine were the only two GOP lawmakers to vote in favor of the bill.  The vote comes after the Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos are legally people and ruled that those who destroy the embryos are liable. Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey subsequently signed legislation into law in March that protects medical professionals from civil and criminal immunity in case of unintentional death or damage to an embryo.  ALABAMA IVF RULING REIGNITES DEBATE ON ABORTION, A MOTIVATING ISSUE FOR DEMOCRATS AHEAD OF ELECTION “Protecting IVF should be the easiest yes vote senators have taken all year. All this bill does is establish a nationwide right to IVF and eliminate barriers for millions of Americans who seek IVF,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said on the Senate floor in support of the legislation Thursday.  “It’s personal to me. I have a beautiful one-year-old grandson because of the miracle of IVF. And so, in a perfect world, a bill like this would not be necessary. But after the fiasco of the Alabama Supreme Court decision and the generally MAGA views of some on the Supreme Court, Americans are genuinely worried that IVF is the next target of anti-choice extremists.” Schumer notably changed his vote from yay to nay on Thursday, which will allow him to readdress the bill sooner in the future.  The bill was introduced by Democratic Sens. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois and Cory Booker of New Jersey. It included measures such as a statutory right to access to reproductive services such as IVF and would have lowered costs for IVF treatments.  Republican Sens. Ted Cruz and Katie Britt released a statement earlier Thursday reaffirming their support of IVF access across the nation, but slammed the legislation as “scare tactics.”  “Senate Democrats have embraced a Summer of Scare Tactics—a partisan campaign of false fearmongering intended to mislead and confuse the American people. In vitro fertilization is legal and available in every state across our nation. We strongly support continued nationwide access to IVF, which has allowed millions of aspiring parents to start and grow their families,” they wrote.  TEXAS READY TO PICK UP IVF DEBATE FOLLOWING ALABAMA EMBRYO RULING: ‘PRO-LIFE STATE’ Britt and Cruz offered their own version of the legislation Wednesday, which would have barred states from Medicaid funding if they banned IVF treatments. Democrats blocked their efforts to pass the legislation through a unanimous consent request, arguing the legislation failed to broadly protect access to IVF services.  DUELING IVF BILLS TAKE CENTER STAGE AS PARTIES BUTT HEADS ON REPRODUCTIVE TECH REGULATION Pro-life groups, such as Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, slammed the bill in the lead-up to the vote for its broad language they said combined “four extreme bills that take an ‘anything goes’ approach to fertility treatment.”  “This bill is a solution in search of a problem — fertility treatments are widely available and there are no serious efforts to curb thoughtful care for those experiencing infertility. This is a sweeping bill that protects the industry without protections for parents or their embryos. The bill would allow for genetic testing of embryos, selective reduction abortions and even treatments using human cloning. Instead of serious legislation that balances complex issues, this is a free-for-all for the fertility industry. This bill funnels more money into their billion-dollar business and forces taxpayers to foot the bill,” Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement.  Fox News Digital’s Julia Johnson and Elizabeth Pritchett contributed to this report.

A Democrat-backed bill that would have expanded access to and provide a “nationwide right” to in vitro fertilization (IVF) services failed to garner enough votes to get past a key test vote on Thursday.  The Senate voted 48 to 47, falling short of the necessary 60 votes needed to move forward. The package’s failure came as no surprise, as Republicans were anticipated to block the legislation and said the bill was too broad as Democrats work to amplify abortion access and reproductive issues ahead of the 2024 election.  Republicans Sens. Biden judicial nominee takes heat over recommendation for transgender inmate, answer on sex

Biden judicial nominee takes heat over recommendation for transgender inmate, answer on sex

Judge Sarah Netburn, nominated by President Biden to one of the most prestigious federal courts in the country, faces a rocky path forward, as the Senate Judiciary Committee passed up two opportunities Thursday to move forward on her advancement. The apparent delay comes after Republicans highlighted her decision to move a transgender individual, who is also a sex offender, into a women’s prison.  Biden nominated Netburn to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, one of the most prestigious and busiest federal courts in the country. During remarks on the Senate floor Thursday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said the Judiciary Committee “has received almost a hundred letters – from liberals – opposing Judge Netburn’s activism.”  “Apparently, it’s not enough for Senate Democrats to rubber-stamp radicals to the courts. They desperately don’t want the American people to know about it,” McConnell said. “The cat is out of the bag.”  Netburn ordered the transfer of inmate July Justine Shelby, who was imprisoned under the name William McClain, to a women’s prison, against the recommendation of Bureau of Prisons officials.  Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., criticized Netburn during a May hearing, labeling her a “political activist.”  SENATORS GRILL BIDEN JUDICIAL NOMINEE OVER TRANSGENDER INMATE TRANSFER REQUEST DESPITE SEX CRIMES CONVICTIONS While grilling Netburn before the House Judiciary Committee last month, Kennedy noted that Shelby, who was incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, New York, had been convicted for molesting a nine-year-boy and raping a 17-year-old girl, as well as sending child porn to other sex offenders.  “I issued a report and recommendation to the district judge recommending that the district judge transfer the petitioner to a women’s facility,” Netburn said at the hearing. “My recommendation was that the petitioner’s serious medical needs were being denied by keeping her in a men’s facility.”  Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, accused Netburn of being “willing to subjugate the rights of individuals to satisfy [her] political ideology.”  Cruz pressed Netburn on whether the other women incarcerated had a right not to have a six-foot-two “serial child rapist with male genitalia” put in as their cellmate.  At her nomination hearing, Netburn was repeatedly questioned over her 2022 recommendation that Shelby “be immediately transferred to a women’s facility” over the objections of the Bureau of Prisons. Ranking Member Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., asked, “In your Report & Recommendation, you open your ‘Factual Background’ section by stating: ‘At birth, people are typically assigned a gender.’ … Is it possible to determine a person’s sex by only analyzing their chromosomes?” Netburn responded, “I have never studied biology, and therefore I am unqualified to answer this question.” McConnell slammed how Democrats ran last month’s fiery confirmation hearing in remarks on the Senate floor Thursday.  SCHUMER MAY LET CONTROVERSIAL BIDEN NOMINEE WITH ‘PROBLEMATIC’ TIES QUIETLY EXPIRE: EXPERT “Soon the Judiciary Committee will consider promoting a magistrate in New York, Sarah Netburn, to the district court after a less-than-judicious committee process,” McConnell said. “Judge Netburn’s hearing was a contentious affair. You should go watch it. My friends, the junior Senators from Louisiana and Texas, had the Judge dead to rights on her judicial activism from the bench.”  “She was clearly prepared for their line of questioning. But by the end, she wilted under the withering fire from my colleagues,” he continued. “That’s when the acting chairwoman of the Committee got involved. After Republicans were finished questioning Judge Netburn, she invited the nominee to defend herself. Her defense, of course, flatly contradicted her written opinion as a judge.”  “Committee Republicans rightly objected. It’s one thing to give a nominee the chance to rehabilitate herself, but giving her the last word as she lied to the Committee is a different matter entirely,” McConnell continued. “After the nominee gave two different explanations for why she had engaged in political activism from the bench, Committee Democrats blocked further questions and closed the hearing.”  “It sounds an awful lot like the way another nominee, Adeel Mangi, explained his policy views to liberal interest groups only after the Committee was finished questioning him. Judge Netburn got the last word, here,” McConnell added, then referencing Kennedy’s remarks: “As the Junior Senator from Louisiana said, it looks an awful lot like a cover-up.”  The Senate Judiciary Committee was expected to vote on Netburn’s nomination Thursday.  If approved, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., would have to decide when or if he’ll bring the nomination up for a floor vote – a move that would put vulnerable Democrats on the spot.  The Senate Judiciary Committee held a business meeting on Thursday slated to discuss pending nominations, but lawmakers did not bring up Netburn.  Netburn has served as a magistrate judge for 12 years. New poll reveals Biden’s border security move fails to satisfy voters as crisis rages

New poll reveals Biden’s border security move fails to satisfy voters as crisis rages

A controversial executive order by President Biden that aims to shut down migrant crossings at the southern border has so far failed to win over voters who want tougher action on illegal immigration. A Monmouth University poll released this week found that about 40% of voters favor the order, while 27% oppose it, and just under half (46%) say it isn’t tough enough when it comes to illegal immigration. Only about 17% say the order is too tough, while 31% say the order is about right.  EMBATTLED BIDEN BORDER ORDER LOADED WITH LOOPHOLES ‘TO DRIVE A TRUCK THROUGH’: CRITICS Biden announced the order last week to temporarily suspend the entry of migrants across the southern border once the number of daily encounters exceeds 2,500 a day over seven days.  It’s accompanied by a rule to apply a higher standard that migrants must meet for initial asylum screenings. “Today, I’m moving past Republican obstruction and using executive authorities available to me as president to do what I can on my own to address the border,” Biden said in a speech announcing the move. The move brought criticism from some Democrats who thought the order too strict, and from Republicans who say it doesn’t do enough to address the crisis at the border, for which they blame the Biden administration’s policies. The administration says Congress has failed to fix a “broken” immigration system. The order also brought a threat of a lawsuit from the American Civil Liberties Union.  The Monmouth University poll found that Biden actually has more Republicans (44%) who favor the order than Democrats (40%) and independents (38%). However, Republicans who favor the order overwhelmingly say it isn’t tough enough (73%).  Of independents who back the order, 52% say it isn’t tough enough, while among those who oppose it, 55% say it is too tough. Of Democrats who oppose it, 82% say it is too tough, while of those who support it, 69% say it is about right. The poll was conducted by telephone from June 6 to 10, 2024, with 1,106 adults in the United States. ‘IT IS INSULTING’: BIDEN BORDER ORDER TAKES HEAT FROM DEMOCRATS AND REPUBLICANS The poll shows the complexities of dealing with the border crisis for Biden, facing pressure from both those who want to see tough action and those among his base who oppose such measures. Polling has frequently shown that he is doing poorly among voters on border security. “Biden will never be able to satisfy Republicans on border policy. The real question is whether he can neutralize this issue among independents without alienating certain Democrats. These initial public opinion results suggest he may have achieved some of that, but it’s not a clear political win by any stretch,” Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute, said in a statement. CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF THE BORDER SECURITY CRISIS The poll found overall that about 38% of Americans approve of Biden’s job performance, while 58% disapprove, down slightly from two months ago, but within the range of his ratings since September, where the lowest was a 34% approval in September. Meanwhile, Biden has also reportedly been considering a measure to grant “parole in place” for spouses of U.S. citizens, potentially as a way to blunt criticism coming from liberal activists. “Today, I have spoken about what we need to do to secure the border. In the weeks ahead – and I mean the weeks ahead – I will speak to how we can make our immigration system more fair and more just,” he said in his remarks. A White House spokesperson told Fox News last week that the administration “continues to explore a series of policy options, and we remain committed to taking action to address our broken immigration system.” Fox News’ Paul Steinhauser contributed to this report

‘No Juicing Joe’: Republican proposes bill in response to Biden’s ‘decline on full display’

FIRST ON FOX: The White House would have to notify Congress when the president takes a drug that could alter his alertness, judgment, or mood under a bill being proposed Thursday by a Tennesse Republican. “Joe Biden’s embarrassing outbursts of anger and incomprehensible speeches mirror the incalculable damage his policies have had on our nation,” Rep. Andy Ogles told Fox News Digital on Thursday.  “Frequently slurred speech, abnormally long pauses, and the inability to string together five words in a coherent sentence have put Biden’s mental and physical decline on full display,” he said. “It is unfair to the American people for the White House to be occupied by someone who is literally incapable of speaking.” Ogles said his bill — the No Juicing Joe Act — came about because the White House “has refused” to test Biden’s cognitive abilities “because they know he will fail miserably.” Biden is scheduled to debate former President Donald Trump, the GOP nominee, later this month. BIDEN’S ‘PERPETUAL STATE OF CONFUSION’ ON FULL DISPLAY IN NORMANDY AMID RISING COGNITIVE QUESTIONS “The President, whose office is the most powerful on earth, must be accountable to the people, and it’s Congress’ duty to ensure accountability,” Ogles said.  Presidents past have grappled with health issues that sometimes involve treatments with drugs affecting their behavior, Ogles noted, such as President John F. Kennedy’s treatment by Doctor Max Jacobson, known as “Doctor Feelgood,” and Woodrow Wilson’s post-stroke incapacitation which led to the 21st Amendment. In an emailed statement to Fox News Digital, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates said, “it’s telling that Republican officials are unable to stop announcing how intimidated they remain by President Biden’s State of the Union performance.”  “But after losing every public and private negotiation with President Biden — and after seeing him succeed where they failed across the board, ranging from actually rebuilding America’s infrastructure to actually reducing violent crime to actually outcompeting China — it tracks that those same Republican officials mistake confidence for a drug,” he said. BIDEN WHITE HOUSE URGED DEMOCRATS TO CALL BACK WALL STREET JOURNAL AS IT REPORTED ON PRESIDENT’S MENTAL ACUITY Last week, the Republican National Committee (RNC) research division posted several videos on X that appeared to show President Biden in “a perpetual state of confusion” following his speech in Normandy on Thursday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. The RNC research account, which is managed by former President Trump’s campaign and the RNC, rattled off several posts on X of the president in Normandy, with one video showing Biden bending down at one point, seeming to be uncertain whether it was time to sit down. Questions about Biden’s mental acuity also circulated last week after The Wall Street Journal’s bombshell report that interviewed 45 lawmakers and administration officials about Biden’s mental performance. Biden, 81, is the oldest person to hold the presidency and has faced skepticism from voters and Republican lawmakers about his ability to do his job. Many Republicans and even some Democrats said the president showed his age in private meetings. BIDEN DISPLAYS SIGNS OF DECLINE IN PRIVATE MEETINGS WITH CONGRESSIONAL LEADERS: REPORT Most of the people interviewed by the outlet who were critical of Biden’s performance were Republicans, although some Democrats said the president showed his age in several exchanges. These interviewees participated in meetings with Biden or were briefed on them contemporaneously, including administration officials and other Democrats who did not express concerns about how the president handled the meetings. CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP White House officials, however, dismissed many of the accounts from people who have met with the president or been briefed on those meetings, saying such criticisms were motivated by partisan politics. Trump rips DOJ as ‘no good bastards,’ calls Biden ‘dope’ in closed-door House GOP meeting

Former President Trump gave a wide-ranging speech to House Republicans on Thursday, lashing out at his political enemies and praising his allies. Trump in particular criticized the prosecutions against him, calling the Department of Justice (DOJ) “dirty, no good bastards,” according to two sources in the room. One GOP lawmaker told Fox News Digital that Trump touted the fundraising and popularity boost he got from his various state and federal criminal charges. “He said, ‘They had a saying that we’re going to indict this guy into the White House,’” the GOP lawmaker said. TRUMP RILES UP FIERY SWING STATE CROWD IN FIRST RALLY SINCE NEW YORK CONVICTION The GOP lawmaker said Trump also called President Biden the “worst president in history.” Sources also told Fox News that Trump referred to Biden as a “dope.” Multiple House Republicans said the meeting went well, and that Trump touched on many topics, including military, trade and abortion policies. Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., told Fox News Digital that Trump blamed Biden for the presence of Russian warships in Cuba. WATCH: TRUMP RALLYGOERS REVEAL WHO THEY WANT AS VICE PRESIDENT “What was really on his mind today is the fact that Russia has submarines right off the coast of the United States, and he’s just, he’s really upset… and he should be. I’m concerned. We all should be concerned that we’ve got a president that is, that’s so weak that he’s allowed for [this],” Burlison said. Rep. Mike Garcia, R-Calif., said Trump hit Biden for the White House’s threat to veto this year’s defense policy bill, which includes a pay raise for members of the military. BIDEN CAMP JABS AT TRUMP’S ‘FAILED’ BUSINESS RECORD AS FORMER PRESIDENT LOOKS TO SWAY NATION’S TOP CEOS “That’s a winning issue from a presidential race perspective,” Garcia said. “The fact that Biden has now tripled down on this veto threat… President Trump should just be banging Biden over the head every day on the fact that you are not willing to give our troops a pay raise.” Two additional sources who spoke with Fox News Digital said Trump also urged Republicans to hone an effective message on abortion, warning that it had “cost” the GOP in previous elections.  He said the issue was “too important to ignore” and accused Democrats of having “radical” positions on late-term abortion, the sources said. Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment. Fox News’ Aishah Hasnie contributed to this report
