GOP releases Jan. 6 clip of Pelosi saying ‘I take responsibility’ as she discussed National Guard absence

GOP releases Jan. 6 clip of Pelosi saying ‘I take responsibility’ as she discussed National Guard absence

A previously-unreleased video taken on Jan. 6, 2021 shows then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., saying she takes “responsibility” for law enforcement’s lack of preparedness when a mob stormed the U.S. Capitol that day. A Tweet on X by a House Republican panel contains video that appears to show a frustrated Pelosi being evacuated from the Capitol complex and in intense conversation with Chief of Staff Terri McCullough about how the evacuation was conducted. “We have responsibility, Terri. We did not have any accountability for what was going on there. And we should have,” Pelosi says in the video, which was reviewed in its original form by Fox News Digital. “This is ridiculous. You’re going to ask me in the middle of the thing when they’ve already breached…that, should we call the Capitol Police? I mean the National Guard? Why weren’t the National Guard there to begin with?” Her aide appeared to reply that Capitol security did believe they were prepared, to which Pelosi continued, “They clearly didn’t know, and I take responsibility for not having them just prepared for more.” DOJ WILL NOT TURN OVER BIDEN’S RECORDED INTERVIEW WITH SPECIAL COUNSEL HUR TO CONGRESS Pelosi then appears to take a shot at former President Trump’s supporters, who ransacked part of the Capitol including her office.  “It’s stupid that we should be in a situation like this, because they thought they had what- they thought these people would act civilized? They thought these people would give a damn?” Pelosi said. “What is it that is missing here in terms of anticipation? They give us a piece of paper that says walk through the tunnel, don’t walk outside. That’s your preparation?” When reached for comment on the video, a spokesperson for Pelosi told Fox News Digital, “Numerous independent fact-checkers have confirmed again and again that Speaker Pelosi did not plan her own assassination on January 6th.” BALANCE OF POWER: MESSY GOP PRIMARIES COULD BOOST DEMOCRATS IN SWING STATE RACES “As the footage in its entirety plainly shows, Speaker Pelosi sprang into action in response to the attack on the Capitol — mobilizing the defense of the Capitol, urging the Administration to deploy the National Guard and coordinating the continuity of government.  Cherry-picked, out-of-context clips do not change the fact that the Speaker of the House is not in charge of the security of the Capitol Complex — on January 6th or any other day of the week,” the spokesperson said. “Three years later, House Republicans are still attempting to whitewash the deadly insurrection.” House Republicans, however, say the clip undercuts Pelosi’s assertions that Trump was to blame for the Jan. 6 riot. HOUSE GOP REPORT ALLEGES JAN 6 COMMITTEE ‘DELETED RECORDS AND HID EVIDENCE’ “Pelosi’s J6 Select Committee spent taxpayer’s money chasing false political narratives and using Hollywood producers for their ‘investigation.’ Her admission of responsibility directly contradicts their own narrative,” tweeted Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., chair the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight. Fox News Digital reached out to Loudermilk for further comment.

UN Security Council endorses US-sponsored Gaza ceasefire resolution

UN Security Council endorses US-sponsored Gaza ceasefire resolution

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has adopted a resolution endorsing a US-backed ceasefire proposal that aims to end Israel’s eight-month assault on Gaza. The vote on the United States-sponsored resolution on Monday was 14-0, with Russia abstaining. The resolution welcomes a three-phase ceasefire proposal announced by US President Joe Biden last month, which calls for an initial six-week ceasefire and the exchange of some Israeli captives held in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails. The second phase would include a permanent ceasefire and the release of the remaining captives. The third phase would involve a reconstruction effort for the devastated Gaza Strip. The US says Israel has accepted the proposal, although some Israeli officials have since promised to continue the war until the elimination of Hamas, the Palestinian group that governs Gaza. The resolution calls on Hamas, which initially said it viewed the proposal “positively”, to accept the three-phase plan. It urges Israel and Hamas “to fully implement its terms without delay and without condition”. Hamas was quick to welcome the resolution on Monday. In a statement after the vote, Hamas said it was ready to cooperate with mediators and enter indirect negotiations over the implementation of the principles of the agreement. Al Jazeera’s Gabriel Elizondo, reporting from the UN headquarters in New York, said the UNSC passed the resolution “overwhelmingly and it is binding in international law”. The “big question moving forward”, Elizondo said, is whether it be enforced and implemented. “The US has said very clearly that Israel has agreed to this. So that puts quite a lot of pressure on Israel to abide by this.” US deputy Ambassador Robert Wood told reporters earlier that the US wanted to make sure all 15 UNSC members were on board to support what he described as “the best, most realistic opportunity to bring at least a temporary halt to this war”. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously said that Biden presented only parts of the proposal and insisted that any talk of a permanent ceasefire before dismantling Hamas’s military and governing capabilities was a non-starter. Hamas has frequently said that any deal must lead to a permanent ceasefire, a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, an end to the Israeli siege of Gaza, reconstruction and “a serious exchange deal” between captives in Gaza and Palestinians held in Israeli jails. The UNSC adopted a resolution on March 25 demanding a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ended April 9, with the US abstaining. But there was no halt to the offensive. Three-phase plan Biden’s May 31 announcement of the new ceasefire proposal said it would begin with a six-week ceasefire and the release of captives held in Gaza in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas in Gaza and the return of Palestinian civilians to all areas in the territory. The resolution goes into detail about the proposal and spells out that “if the negotiations take longer than six weeks for phase one, the ceasefire will still continue as long as negotiations continue”. Phase one also requires the safe distribution of humanitarian assistance “at scale throughout the Gaza Strip”, which Biden said would lead to 600 trucks with aid entering Gaza every day. In phase two, the resolution says that with the agreement of Israel and Hamas, “a permanent end to hostilities, in exchange for the release of all other hostages still in Gaza, and a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza” will take place. Phase three would launch “a major multi-year reconstruction plan for Gaza and the return of the remains of any deceased hostages still in Gaza to their families”. The resolution reiterates the UNSC’s “unwavering commitment to achieving the vision of a negotiated two-state solution where two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, live side by side in peace within secure and recognized borders”. It also stresses “the importance of unifying the Gaza Strip with the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority”, something Netanyahu’s right-wing government has not agreed to. Alon Liel, the former director of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the Israeli government “was taken by surprise” by the resolution. “The resolution is giving new content to the Blinken visit here. I think there will be a very hectic morning discussing it tomorrow,” Liel told Al Jazeera. “Israel is not standing behind its own proposal and definitely not the draft proposal submitted by the Americans,” he said. “Our ambassador tried in the last 48 hours to change the text and was unable to do it. So Israel definitely doesn’t like this resolution… If Israel will openly reject it, the pressure will grow internationally,” Liel added. Adblock test (Why?)

US Gaza aid pier not used in Israel’s captives rescue mission: Pentagon

US Gaza aid pier not used in Israel’s captives rescue mission: Pentagon

US says it is ‘incidental’ that deadly Israeli operation took place near floating dock built to deliver aid to Gaza. The United States has stressed that its temporary aid pier in Gaza was not used in the Israeli captive rescue operation in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza that killed more than 270 people. The Pentagon said on Monday that reports linking the pier to Saturday’s Israeli assault that resulted in the freeing of four captives held by Hamas are “inaccurate”. “It was near, but I think it’s incidental. Again, the pier, the equipment, the personnel all supporting that humanitarian effort had nothing to do with the [Israeli military] rescue operation,” Pentagon spokesperson Patrick Ryder told reporters. He added that the Israeli operation – despite its proximity to the US floating dock –  does not put American personnel at a “greater risk”. “To underscore, the temporary pier on the coast of Gaza was put in place for one purpose only: to help move additional urgently-needed lifesaving assistance to Gaza,” Ryder said. The Washington Post reported on Sunday that the Israeli military used a helicopter on a beach “not far from” the US pier to evacuate three of the captives and the soldiers who freed them. The Israeli military intensively bombed the Nuseirat area during the operation, killing at least 274 people, including dozens of women and children, according to Palestinian authorities in Gaza. The administration of President Joe Biden lauded the rescue of the captives. “We welcome the rescue of four hostages who after eight months of captivity have finally been reunited with their families in Israel. The United States will not rest until every hostage is returned home,” the Department of State said in a statement on Saturday. While the US military has denied involvement in the attack, several international media outlets, including The New York Times, have reported that American officials provided intelligence that helped with the operation. Hamas decried Washington’s purported involvement in the mission, saying it “proves once again the complicity of the US administration and its full participation in the war crimes committed in the Gaza Strip”. The Palestinian group said the attack also raises questions over the professed US concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Biden announced the decision to build the humanitarian pier in March amid the Israeli blockade on Gaza, which has sparked fears of famine. The floating US dock was completed in May, but within weeks, it sustained damage from bad weather, requiring repairs. The pier was reassembled on Friday. Aid groups have argued for weeks that the US dock is not an adequate substitute to delivering humanitarian assistance via land routes. Late in May, 20 aid organisations, including Doctors Without Borders, called the US-installed dock part of “cosmetic changes” that fail to address the crisis adequately. “As Israeli attacks intensify on Rafah, the unpredictable trickle of aid into Gaza has created a mirage of improved access while the humanitarian response is in reality on the verge of collapse,” the groups said in a statement. The Nuseirat attack could further deepen the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) paused its aid deliveries in Gaza after the operation. “Two of our warehouses were rocketed yesterday, so we’ve stepped back just for the moment to make sure that we’re on safe terms and on safe ground before we’ll restart,” WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain told CBS News on Sunday. Mike Lee praises Trump for resisting Clinton lawfare, warns Biden of slippery slope

Mike Lee praises Trump for resisting Clinton lawfare, warns Biden of slippery slope

Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee said chants of “lock her up” in regard to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton made him “uncomfortable” and urged President Biden to refrain from starting a cycle of political lawfare in the wake of former President Trump’s guilty verdict.  “They could still do the right thing and perhaps put the genie back in the bottle,” the Republican told Fox News Digital in a Monday interview.  “There’s so many instances of reversible error in this New York conviction that [Manhattan District Attorney Alvin] Bragg’s office, and those who are handling this case on appeal could, and I believe, should confess error on appeal and walk away from the whole thing and leave it alone,” he said.  SENATE DEM DOUBLES DOWN ON OLD ALITO COMPLAINT AS SCOTUS NEARS TRUMP IMMUNITY RULING Last month, Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records by a New York jury.  Lee led several Republican colleagues on a pledge, vowing not to comply with their Democrat counterparts in the Senate after the verdict. “Strongly worded statements are not enough. Those who turned our judicial system into a political cudgel must be held accountable. We are no longer cooperating with any Democrat legislative priorities or nominations, and we invite all concerned Senators to join our stand,” he announced at the time.  According to the senator, “We can’t, in the wake of that conviction, pretend that nothing has happened – Pretend that this is just now going to be business as usual.” DEMS SET TO BRING UP NEXT REPRODUCTIVE MESSAGING BILL AHEAD OF 2024 ELECTIONS “The pledge is an attempt to harness that message,” he explained.  So far, 14 senators have joined him, including National Republican Senatorial Committee Chair Steve Daines, R-Mont., and Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., who is running for Republican leader to succeed outgoing Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. BALANCE OF POWER: SENATE DEMS MOUNT SWING STATE OFFENSE ON ‘CARPETBAGGER’ CLAIMS “I do think we’re going to continue to pick up more Republican senators as time goes on,” Lee predicted. He noted that his Democrat counterparts haven’t given it much of a response or paid it much attention: “We’ll see how much they feel it as it gains more steam.” “It’s still a minority of the minority conference,” however, he said he expects that will change.  GOP SHORES UP MICHIGAN EFFORT AS DEMS LOSE SENATE INCUMBENT ADVANTAGE The Utah senator further suggested, “Jon Tester has got to be feeling it. Sherrod Brown has got to be feeling it,” referencing pressure to push back against Trump’s guilty verdict. The two senators are part of a group of several Democrat incumbents who are facing competitive challenges to their re-election bids.  Lee also rejected the idea that the pledge to disallow any increases to nonsecurity funding as well as any money toward funding “partisan lawfare” would cause a government shutdown. “There’s nothing about this that even necessarily makes a shutdown any more likely than it would be otherwise,” he said, noting he expects a stopgap funding bill to be necessary when current appropriations bills run out in September. The White House did not provide comment to Fox News Digital for purposes of this story.

Trump classified documents judge rules on motion to dismiss case

Trump classified documents judge rules on motion to dismiss case

The federal judge presiding over the classified documents case against former President Trump has denied a motion to dismiss some of the charges in the indictment.  Trump’s legal team had sought to throw out more than a half-dozen of the 41 counts in the indictment, which accuses the former commander-in-chief of illegally hoarding classified documents from his presidency and conspiring with others to conceal sensitive files from the federal government.  The defendants had challenged counts related to obstruction and false statements, but U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon issued an order Monday saying that “the identified deficiencies, even if generating some arguable confusion, are either permitted by law, raise evidentiary challenges not appropriate for disposition at this juncture, and/or do not require dismissal even if technically deficient, so long as the jury is instructed appropriately and presented with adequate verdict forms as to each Defendants’ alleged conduct.” TRUMP RILES UP FIERY SWING STATE CROWD IN FIRST RALLY SINCE NEW YORK CONVICTION Cannon has rejected multiple other motions already to dismiss the case, including one that suggested that the Presidential Records Act authorized Trump to keep the documents with him after he left the White House and to designate them as his personal files. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

WATCH: Trump rallygoers reveal who they want as vice president

Supporters of former President Trump attending his massive Las Vegas rally over the weekend revealed who they want to see share the Republican ticket alongside him in November. Fox News Digital spoke to a number of attendees, whose answers were wide-ranging with even a few surprises thrown in. “I’d say [Florida Sen.] Marco Rubio, and my reason is he’s in line with all of our beliefs, he’s in line with all Trump’s beliefs,” one supporter told Fox. “Marco Rubio is young, energetic, and we need somebody young, we need somebody in four years that can take over that has energy and youth and will keep the path that President Trump is going to line up for us.” TRUMP ANNOUNCES MAJOR ENDORSEMENT IN CRUCIAL BATTLEGROUND SENATE RACE Her husband agreed, while another rallygoer simply said, “I’d like to see [Arkansas Sen.] Tom Cotton.” Another supporter told Fox he wanted to see Trump select North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, citing his experience in business, which he said was something needed in America. “I have my pick, and not many people agree with me, but I’d like to see Gen. Flynn,” one man told Fox, referencing former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, who briefly served under Trump at the start of his administration in 2017 and has been a staunch supporter since he first ran for president in 2016. TRUMP RILES UP FIERY SWING STATE CROWD IN FIRST RALLY SINCE NEW YORK CONVICTION One man, who identified himself as a veteran, said he wanted Trump to pick Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who ran against him in the Republican presidential primaries. “I think that would be a great deal. Trump is pro-military, and me being a veteran and Ron DeSantis being a veteran, I don’t think you can get a better combo, in my opinion,” he said as two of his fellow attendees agreed. Another suggested former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley would be the best choice and called on her and Trump to “work together and get this country right back to where the country can be safe again.” DEMOCRATS ‘FEAR’ THIS POSSIBLE TRUMP VP PICK WHO ‘COULD SPELL THE END FOR BIDEN’: INSIDERS “And be great,” his fellow rallygoer added, while another suggested South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott. One woman wouldn’t name a preference as she declared the only thing that mattered was making sure Trump won. Trump’s campaign recently entered the next phase of the running mate search by requesting documents from several prospective contenders, including Rubio, Burgum and Ohio Sen. JD Vance.  Trump has suggested he will likely wait until July’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee to name his pick. Rep. Mike Collins says staffer robbed at gunpoint in DC, blames ‘pro-criminal policies’

U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, R-Ga., said one of his staffers was robbed at gunpoint Sunday in Washington D.C.  Collins wrote on X that three men attempted to rob the unnamed staffer and a friend in the city’s Navy Yard neighborhood.  “One attacker took a watch, the other took a fist to the face,” he wrote. “Our nation’s capital has become a war zone because of pro-criminal policies peddled by D.C.’s government.” DC POLICE OFFICER SHOT DRIVING TO WORK; 2 PERSONS OF INTEREST DETAINED IN MARYLAND He said the staffer and friend were able to fend off the robbers and were unharmed. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Metropolitan Police Department, as well as Collins’ office.  In another post on X, Collins blamed local officials for Washington’s crime woes.  “Time and time again D.C.’s leadership proves they are incapable of governing and protecting its citizens,” he wrote. “Violent crime in this city is a problem that affects everyone. It’s unthinkable that drive-by robberies are a normal part of living just a few blocks from the Capitol.” Overall crime in the city is down by 16% as of Monday compared to the same time period in 2023, according to police data. Burglaries were down 23% and robberies declined 29%, according to police figures.
