Fast-growing gun group enhances insurance coverage to protect members amid blue state 2A crack downs

The U.S. Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) announced on Wednesday new enhancements to the self-defense liability insurance coverage received by its members amid a crackdown on Second Amendment protections in several Democrat-led states. The enhancements to the insurance policy, according to USCCA, include increasing bail bond coverage to $250,000, adding up to $15,000 in attorney fees and expenses to defend members facing Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPO), also known as “red flag” laws, and providing up to $5,000 in coverage to seal or expunge a member’s personal records to protect against future discrimination. The new benefit, according to the association, will assist gun owners who are adjudicated legally in addressing reputational challenges they may have with public legal records. “The USCCA represents hundreds of thousands of law-abiding gun owners across the country, and we have increasingly heard concerns from them about the threat of baseless ERPOs,” Tim Schmidt, chairman and co-founder of the USCCA said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “We recognize there has been a concerted effort by some states and the Biden administration to increase the use and frequency of red flag laws that strip away our Constitutional rights.” REPUBLICANS BLAST BIDEN ADMIN’S ‘RED FLAG OPERATION’ AS ONE THAT WILL ‘VIOLATE’ SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS “We felt it was important to update USCCA member benefits to include coverage for attorney fees and expenses to ensure our members could afford the due process they deserve,” Schmidt added. Founded in 2003, the USCCA is self-described as “the largest, fastest-growing self-defense association in the country dedicated to responsible gun owners.” The association — headquartered in West Bend, Wisconsin, and boasting more than 800,000 members — works to strengthen its membership benefits and protections based on member feedback and the latest advancements in the marketplace. “‘Red flag’ laws are ripe for abuse and strip Americans of their constitutional right while neglecting due process. The USCCA stands ready to protect our more than 825,000 members from this overreach,” Mike Lowney, president of Delta Defense, the service provider of the USCCA, told Fox News Digital. The USCCA’s announcement comes amid what has been viewed as the spread of Second Amendment crackdowns by Democrat-led states and the Biden administration. Earlier this year, the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the creation of the National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center to provide assistance to law enforcement officials, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim service and social service providers, community organizations and behavioral health professionals. COLORADO DEMS PUSH SWEEPING GUN CONTROL LAWS THAT ARE FLYING UNDER NATIONAL RADAR: ‘PUBLIC IS FED UP’ “ERPO laws, which are modeled off domestic violence protection orders, create a civil process allowing law enforcement, family members (in most states), and medical professionals or other groups (in some states) to petition a court to temporarily prohibit someone at risk of harming themselves or others from purchasing and possessing firearms for the duration of the order,” the DOJ noted at the time. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement that the effort will provide “valuable resources” to those seeking to keep firearms out of the hands of those deemed a threat to themselves and others. “The launch of the National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center will provide our partners across the country with valuable resources to keep firearms out of the hands of individuals who pose a threat to themselves or others,” Garland said. “The establishment of the Center is the latest example of the Justice Department’s work to use every tool provided by the landmark Bipartisan Safer Communities Act to protect communities from gun violence.” Through the resource center and its website, the Justice Department noted that “states, local governments, law enforcement, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim service providers, and behavioral health and other social service providers will have direct access to critical information that will enhance their ability to reduce firearm homicides and suicides.” MAINE TARGETS SECOND AMENDMENT WITH SEVERAL GUN SAFETY BILLS AFTER DEADLIEST SHOOTING IN STATE’S HISTORY Congressional Republicans blasted the DOJ move as a “massive Red Flag Operation.” A total of 21 states and the District of Columbia currently have “red flag” or extreme risk laws. Minnesota became the latest state in January, when its “red flag” gun laws went into effect. In Minnesota, courts are given the power to remove guns from individuals who may pose a risk to themselves or others. A request made to the court for someone to lose access to their firearm(s) in Minnesota may only be submitted by a family member, a household member, a chief law enforcement officer, or an attorney in the city or county where they reside. Other states that currently have “red flag” laws include: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.
GOP candidate for swing House district once defended Chinese company in lawsuit

A lawyer and Republican candidate for a U.S. House seat in the swing state of Michigan has in the past defended a Chinese-owned firm linked to multiple espionage investigations. Michigan-based attorney Paul Hudson, who is running in the GOP primary for Michigan’s 3rd Congressional District, served as one of the attorneys defending Yubei (Xinxiang) Power Steering Sys. Co., in a 2015 lawsuit filed by Global Technology Inc., a Michigan company. Yubei (Xinxiang) Power Steering is a subsidiary of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), a defense contractor owned by the Chinese Communist Party that has faced multiple espionage investigations, including accusations the firm stole secret F-35 information to incorporate into Chinese aircraft. A 2014 Fox News report on the incident noted that the alleged espionage took place in 2007, with a secretive Chinese military unit passing F-35 technology data to the AVIC that later turned up in China’s new J-20 stealth fighter jet. AIR FORCE WARNS CHINESE COMPANY’S NORTH DAKOTA MILL WOULD BE ‘SIGNIFICANT’ NATIONAL SECURITY THREAT The Chinese firm’s involvement in the espionage case was one of several cases of Chinese companies spying in the U.S., eventually leading to President Trump signing a 2020 executive order that prohibited American companies from owning shares in companies the Defense Department listed as being linked to the People’s Liberation Army, including AVIC. Reached for comment by Fox News Digital, a spokesperson for Hudson’s campaign argued the candidate “has represented a wide variety of clients in hundreds of cases in his 18 years of practicing law in Michigan.” “In this decade-old case, Paul assisted a firm client in a limited appeal involving a contract dispute,” the spokesperson added. “The only issue at hand was a narrow jurisdictional issue in which the Sixth Circuit unanimously agreed with his client’s position, and the case was quickly dismissed.” But the issue could play an outsized role for voters in Michigan, especially in the aftermath of a high-profile dispute between a small Michigan town and a Chinese company last year. At issue in that case was a lawsuit filed by Gotion Inc., a subsidiary of China-based Gotion High-Tech, against Green Charter Township, Michigan. Voters in Green Charter Township, which is just north of Michigan’s 3rd District, fought back against plans led by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for Gotion to build an electric vehicle battery plant near an area military base after the company’s Chinese ties were revealed, leading to the case that generated national headlines. CHINA SPY BALLOON SHOWS COUNTRY IS PREPARING CITIZENS FOR WAR THAT COULD COME ‘AT ANY POINT’ The Gotion case was top of mind for Hudson’s GOP primary opponent, Michigan financial adviser Michael Markey, who argued Michigan “cannot afford to elect a congressman who is in the pocket of the Chinese Communist Party.” “This is not just a concern for voters, it is a concern for national security,” Markey told Fox News Digital. “His ties to the Chinese Communist Party should be an immediate disqualifier for running for Congress.” Markey argued that Hudson has demonstrated he will put his personal interests ahead of those of voters, noting China’s well-documented attempts to disrupt American interests. “It is clear that Paul Hudson is a lawyer for sale to the highest bidder, and in this case, the highest bidder is the Chinese Communist Party,” Markey said. “Paul chose to defend the Chinese Communist Party to line his pockets at the expense and safety of Michigan and America.” The campaign of the 3rd District incumbent, Rep. Hilary Scholten, D-Mich., did not respond to a Fox News Digital request for comment. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Hudson’s campaign pointed to the candidate’s long history of “opposing Chinese aggression and influence,” noting Hudson has been a strong advocate of rebuilding the Pacific Fleet and has supported increased defense spending to counter China, including support for the recent $8 billion aid package to Taiwan. “Paul also supports the work and leadership of the Michigan congressman in his neighboring district, John Moolenaar, who heads the House Select Committee on the CCP and is doing important work to expose and counter China’s influence operations in our homeland,” the spokesperson said. Michigan’s congressional primary elections will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
‘Dangers of Biden’s energy policies’ shredded in internal House GOP memo

FIRST ON FOX: An internal House GOP memo obtained by Fox News Digital shows that President Biden’s energy policies will be a major issue for Republicans hoping to keep their majority in November. The 175-member strong Republican Study Committee, led by Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Okla., sent a list of talking points to its members that encouraged them to highlight the impacts of the Biden administration’s moves on electric vehicles (EVs), power plants, and liquified natural gas (LNG) exports, among other energy policies. “Biden’s policies threaten to destabilize America’s electric grid, embolden our adversaries, and further exacerbate the pain Americans are experiencing when they fill their tanks and pay their energy bills,” the memo stated. “[I]t is important that conservatives not lose sight of the dangers of Biden’s energy policies and champion an agenda that fully utilizes our country’s vast abundance of clean, reliable, and abundant energy resources,” it also said. US ENERGY FUTURE ‘UNDER THREAT’ FROM BIDEN POLICIES: GOP REPORT On EVs, the GOP memo hit Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a new emissions rule intended to push automakers to sell more electric cars, likely leading to more than half of new cars sold in the U.S. being electric by 2032. “The rule rids consumers of choice and instead forces them to buy less reliable, more expensive vehicles,” Republicans and Republican candidates are expected to note. It also argued that “forcing EVs upon American consumers and manufacturers will embolden China and devastate America’s auto industry” and accused Biden of trying to “bend federal policies” in favor of his “preferred industries.” BIDEN’S ‘WAR’ ON ENERGY WILL COST AMERICANS JOBS, WORSEN INFLATION, MONTANA OFFICIALS SAY Biden’s pause on LNG exports has also been a potent political cudgel for Republicans, and the memo encouraged lawmakers to point out reports that he levied it after pressure from TikTok influencers and climate change lobbyists. “Despite several prior studies from the Department of Energy demonstrating the economic and environmental benefits of U.S. LNG exports, President Biden cites the ‘climate crisis’ and his desire to ‘heed the calls of young people’ as his basis for surrendering U.S. leadership in the global LNG market,” the memo said. It also argued that Biden’s pause on LNG exports strengthens Russia’s energy market, which it uses to finance its invasion of Ukraine. Recent EPA rules aimed at cutting down on power plant pollution were done in “utter disregard to the law and grid reliability,” the memo stated. It encouraged lawmakers to specifically hit Biden for wanting to shut down fossil fuel plants via the Clean Power Plan 2.0 rule, Mercury Air Toxics Standards, Effluent Limitation Guidelines, and Coal Combustion residuals. FLOATING WIND TURBINE IN MAINE PROVES RESILIENT IN STORM SIMULATION, RESEARCHERS SAY “Most egregiously, the EPA is seeking to force existing coal plants and new natural gas plants to adopt carbon capture and storage technologies in less than a decade or face retirement. While a promising innovation that could flourish in a free market, carbon capture technology is far from commercially available, and mandating its adoption runs directly afoul of the Clean Air Act,” it said. It comes as House GOP leaders similarly ramped up their focus on energy regulations and costs to American families, recently focusing an entire week on energy-related legislation. Gas prices, for example, are expected to rise this summer. Additionally, a report by the National Energy Assistance Directors Association projects home energy costs will rise 7.9% across the country as families try to stay cool this summer. While it’s not unusual to see energy and gas prices rise in warmer months, it’s also a burden voters could feel acutely heading into the November presidential election. However, for now, Americans are experiencing some relief – the national average as of Thursday is roughly $3.49, lower than the $3.55 average at this time last year. Fox News Digital reached out to the White House, EPA and Department of Energy for comment on the memo.
