Hunter Biden team tells Delaware court they’re ‘not ready’ for gun trial date

Hunter Biden’s legal team appeared to seek a delay for his impending June 3 trial date in Delaware, which was set by a federal judge two months ago. The first son was not in attendance Tuesday at the federal courthouse in Delaware’s largest city, Wilmington, but attorney Abbe Lowell as well as Special Counsel David Weiss were. Weiss sat in court taking notes during the proceedings. Special counsel attorney Derek Hines told the court the Biden matter is a “simple case,” and that he was prepared to go forward with Judge Maryellen Noreika’s June 3 trial date. Hines predicted the trial would take less than a week. HUNTER BIDEN INDICTMENT MUDDIES WEISS’ CREDIBILITY AS WHISTLEBLOWERS FEEL VINDICATED: ATTORNEY However, Lowell told Noreika, “We are not ready,” for that start date, which appeared to frustrate the judge. Noreika asked Lowell for an explanation, pushing back that the case is not complicated. Lowell said he is working on both Biden’s Delaware and California cases simultaneously, and instead proposed a September trial date in Wilmington. He indicated he plans to file an appeal by Wednesday with the Third Circuit seeking an injunction to block the trial from commencing before merit-based motions are worked through. SHAPLEY ATTORNEY: HUNTER BIDEN PROSECUTOR ‘ALL OVER THE MAP,’ SHOULD TESTIFY TO CONGRESS A 56-page indictment against Biden was handed down in Los Angeles in December, which included felony charges and laid out his salacious spending habits and lifestyle while cataloging alleged related tax violations. In Delaware, other issues scheduled to be presented in court Tuesday pertained to admissibility of evidence. Both the defense and prosecution were reported to be preparing “in limine” motions to exclude certain information from the jury as part of a typical timeline in normal litigation. One argument from the special counsel’s office obtained by Fox News questioned why the jury should not hear the reasons Delaware state law enforcement did not charge Biden with a 2018 count relating to the first son’s application for and possession of a firearm while using controlled substances. CLICK TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP Another court document reflected evidence from the 2018 police report in which Beau Biden’s widow Hallie, who was in a relationship with Hunter at the time, purportedly tossed the gun in a trash receptacle near the A.I. duPont High School in Greenville, Delaware. On Thursday, a federal appeals court decided against tossing the gun charges after Biden asked the Philadelphia-based Third Circuit to dismiss them.
Former Obama campaign worker and wife killed in Southern California vehicle crash

A former Obama campaign worker was killed last week in a car crash in Southern California along with her wife, according to friends and colleagues. Peggy Moore, 60, and Hope Wood, 48, died Friday night when the Jeep pickup truck they were in collided with a Chrysler sedan on State Route 76 in Fallbrook, 55 miles north of San Diego. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office said the Jeep was traveling westbound when it collided with a sedan traveling in the opposite direction. The cause of Wood’s death was blunt force trauma and torso trauma, as well as the unidentified 60-year-old man driving the Jeep. The driver of the sedan was also killed, officials said. The driver of the sedan swerved into the highway’s westbound lanes, striking a white Jeep Gladiator. The head-on crash caused a silver Toyota Camry behind the Jeep to be involved in a minor sideswipe, the California Highway Patrol said in a statement to FOX San Francisco. OBAMA MAKING REGULAR CALLS TO BIDEN’S CHIEF OF STAFF, FEARS TRUMP 2024 WIN: REPORT Moore worked on former President Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and was an advisor to former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf. In 2019, Moore and Hope started the political consulting firm Hope Action Change. The couple championed same-sex causes and campaigned to prevent a state ballot proposition aimed at invalidating same-sex marriages from passing. “I’m heartbroken to hear of the tragic loss of Peggy Moore and Hope Wood. Peggy was a friend, an activist, and one of the best organizers I knew. Her passion and fight for justice and equality is what brought her and Hope together,” U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., said in a statement. “Both Peggy and Hope made an impact on our community, on our city, on our state, and on our nation that will be felt for generations to come.” Rusty Hicks, the chair of the California Democratic Party, said he was saddened by Moore’s death. “She was an incredible political talent & member of Team CADEM who brought a passion for organizing & a commitment to justice every single day,” Hicks wrote on X. “Our thoughts are with her family & the many friends who loved her. Rest In Power, Peggy.” The California Highway Patrol did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
‘Enough’: Controversial ID program for illegal immigrants targeted by GOP senator

FIRST ON FOX: A top Republican senator is moving forward with a push to block a controversial program that would give ID cards to illegal immigrants as early as this summer. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., is introducing the “No Taxpayer Funds for Illegal Immigrant Identity Cards Act” which would bar any federal funds from going to the ICE Secure Docket Card program or any similar program. The ICE Secure Docket Card program was first reported on in 2022, and Fox News Digital reported last week that ICE is planning a limited rollout of the program this summer, with a distribution of approximately 10,000 cards. While the agency stressed that plans are “pre-decisional” and still subject to change, it is expected the cards will be issued in three or four locations in the U.S. TAXPAYER-FUNDED ID PROGRAM FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS EXPECTED TO BEGIN THIS SUMMER The agency said the program will “modernize documentation provided to some noncitizens” but stressed it would not be an official form of federal ID. “While the specifics of the card and pilot are under development, it is important to note the secure card will not be an official form of federal identification,” the agency said. “The secure card will indicate it is for use by DHS agencies and would be provided only after national security background checks have been performed.” But the program faces Republican opposition, with lawmakers having consistently opposed the program. LEAKED IMAGES SHOW BIDEN ADMIN’S PLANNED ICE ID CARD FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS Hawley’s bill would also require the Department of Homeland Security Inspector General to report on any costs associated with the program, or any similar program to grant cards to those in the country illegally. “Joe Biden opened the border and ushered in an era of unprecedented chaos in the US. And now, rather than getting the crisis under control, he wants to use Americans’ money to fund ID cards for illegals.” Hawley said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Enough. Biden should be deporting illegal immigrants and securing our border, not giving them IDs and making it easier for them to take advantage of taxpayer benefits,” he said. ICE has defended the program, saying it would allow officials to more easily verify identities via the DHS system. ICE DEVELOPING PROGRAM TO GIVE ID CARDS TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, AS BORDER CRISIS RAGES “Moving to a secure card will save the agency millions, free up resources and ensure information is quickly accessible to DHS officials while reducing the agency’s FOIA backlog,” the spokesperson said. “For provisionally released noncitizens, the digital modernization will provide ongoing access to important immigration documents through the secure card and connected portal.” Meanwhile, the administration is proposing a federal rule to allow officials to deport those determined to be national security and public safety threats earlier in the asylum process. But Hawley’s bill comes a day after it was revealed that a Colombian national wanted for aggravated homicide in his home country was encountered in November, but was released into the U.S. ICE agents arrested him in Massachusetts earlier this month. Biden rolls out new China tariffs, vows US will ‘never allow’ Beijing to ‘unfairly control’ EV market

President Biden announced Tuesday that his administration is hiking tariffs on $18 billion worth of Chinese imports while vowing that the U.S. will “never allow” Beijing to “unfairly control the market” for electric vehicles. The new measures include an increase in the tariff rate on electric vehicles from 25% to 100% this year along with hikes on tariffs in “strategic sectors” including steel, aluminum, semiconductors, batteries and solar cells, the White House says. “China heavily subsidized all these products, pushing Chinese companies to produce far more than the rest of the world can absorb. And then dumping the excess products onto the market and unfairly low prices, driving other manufacturers around the world out of business,” Biden said Tuesday in a speech at the White House. Biden said U.S. trade partners around the world want a “supply chain for electric vehicles that isn’t dominated by unfair trade practices from China” and that “We’re never going to allow China unfairly control the market for these cars, period.” FIRST AI TALKS BEGIN BETWEEN CHINESE AND US ENVOYS The president said he ultimately wants “fair competition with China, not conflict. “And we’re in a stronger position to win that economic competition in the 21st century against China than anyone else, because we’re investing in America again and American workers,” Biden said. The hikes come after former President Donald Trump imposed tariffs on thousands of Chinese goods in 2018 and 2019 in response to an investigation that found China was violating U.S. intellectual property laws and coercing American companies into transferring sensitive technology to Chinese firms as a condition of gaining access to China’s market. PUTIN TO VISIT CHINA THIS WEEK TO MEET WITH XI, CHINESE FOREIGN MINISTRY SAYS In July 2019, then-presidential candidate Biden spoke out against Trump’s tariffs, saying at the time that “All that he’s delivered as a consequence of that is American farmers, manufacturers and consumers losing and paying more.” But since Biden has taken office, those tariffs have become “a seemingly permanent feature of U.S. policy toward China,” a report from The Wall Street Journal says. China on Tuesday is criticizing the new tariffs, saying they “will seriously affect the atmosphere of bilateral cooperation” and describing them as “bullying,” according to The Associated Press. The Trump campaign also said “Joe Biden’s action today is a weak and futile attempt to distract from the grievous harm his insane Electric Vehicle mandate is doing to the U.S. auto industry and how his radical policies are wiping out thousands of American auto jobs. “The fact that these tariffs do not apply to gas-powered cars and trucks but only to Chinese EVs shows that this has nothing to do with protecting American Workers,” Trump Campaign Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said. “It’s all about Crooked Joe’s agenda of killing gas-powered automobiles while forcing Americans into ultra-expensive Electric Vehicles they don’t want and can’t afford.” FOX Business’ Eric Revell contributed to this report.
Biden doesn’t support ‘full-term’ abortion stance pushed by RFK Jr, campaign says

President Biden’s re-election campaign said Tuesday that the president does not support “full-term abortions”, drawing a contrast between a stance recently taken by one of his challengers in the race for the White House. Fox News Digital asked the Biden campaign this week whether it agrees with remarks made last week by independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who said he opposes any government restrictions on abortions, “even if it’s full-term.” “No, the president doesn’t support full-term abortions, as he’s made clear many times. He thinks Roe got it right,” said Lauren Hitt, a senior spokesperson for the campaign. Following initial outreach to the Biden campaign, Fox News Digital received a statement on the matter from a Democratic National Committee (DNC) spokesperson, who claimed Kennedy “can’t be trusted to stand up for reproductive freedom.” BIDEN BLASTED FOR CLAIMING ABORTION FOR ‘3 TRIMESTERS’ IS NOT ‘ON DEMAND’: ‘DOES BIDEN THINK THERE’S A 4TH?’ “He’s said he would sign a national abortion ban and has repeatedly dismissed the importance of abortion rights on the campaign trail,” DNC communications adviser Lis Smith said in the statement. “With reproductive freedom under attack, we need leaders who will stand strong for women. It’s clear that neither RFK Jr. nor Trump will.” Abortion has become a major issue on the campaign trail since the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in June 2022 to overturn Roe v. Wade and return the issue to the states. Democratic campaigns have made abortion a cornerstone of political messaging, and Biden has repeatedly hammered former President Trump over the issue. During an April 23 speech at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Florida, Biden claimed it was Trump who “ripped away the rights of freedom of women in America.” “It will be all of us who restore those rights for women in America,” he added at the time. Several Republican states have passed legislation limiting abortion, while Democrats have successfully won ballot initiatives in various states to allow for abortion procedures. Appearing on Wednesday’s installment of “The Sage Steele Show,” Kennedy was pressed about this abortion stance. Kennedy clashed with Steele over late-term abortions, insisting they are extremely rare and that there are usually “extenuating circumstances” behind those decisions. BIDEN MAKES SIGN OF THE CROSS DURING PRO-ABORTION SPEECH IN FLORIDA “I think there’s a really, really good argument, a compelling argument, that the state has an interest in protecting a fully-formed fetus. I absolutely think that that argument is very convincing. But again, I come down to the fact that I don’t trust the state,” Kennedy said. “I think we need to trust the woman and I don’t think that that’s a satisfactory outcome, because there’s always gonna be instances where bad things happen.” “So, in other words, keeping it as is with Roe v. Wade having been overturned and leaving it up to the states to determine if and when a woman can have an abortion,” Steele followed. “No, I wouldn’t leave it to the states,” Kennedy responded. “We should leave it to the woman. We shouldn’t have government involved.” “Even if it’s full-term,” Steele said. “Even if it’s full-term,” Kennedy replied, later adding, “I think we have to leave it to the woman, not the state. I think we should do everything in our power to make sure that never happens and everything that we can do. But I think, ultimately, you know, nobody sets out to do that. And there are always some kind of extenuating circumstances that would make a mother make that kind of choice, a terrible, terrible choice which is, you know, you can’t overstate how bad that is. And I think, ultimately, we have to trust women.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP Kennedy’s abortion stance made headlines last year after NBC News reported that he supported limiting abortions to 15 or 21 weeks into the pregnancy. His campaign later clarified his position, alleging he misunderstood the question, saying in a statement, “He does not support legislation banning abortion.” Fox News’ Joseph A. Wulfsohn contributed to this report.

Trump could get Congressional Gold Medal under new House GOP resolution

FIRST ON FOX: A group of House Republicans wants to award former President Trump the Congressional Gold Medal. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., is leading a Congressional resolution to bestow the honor on Trump “in recognition of his exceptional leadership and dedication to strengthening America’s diplomatic relations during his presidency,” according to legislative text obtained by Fox News Digital. It is backed by six fellow House Republicans, including House GOP Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler of Pennsylvania, and Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Andy Ogles of Tennessee, Randy Weber of Texas and Mike Waltz of Florida. MICHAEL COHEN TESTIMONY TO CONTINUE AFTER EX-LAWYER REVEALS SECRET RECORDINGS OF TRUMP IN NY TRIAL “President Trump’s fearless leadership reestablished America as a respected and admired global power,” Luna told Fox News Digital. “It is time we recognize a president who put our country first and secured global peace through bold diplomacy. Despite the liberal media’s attempts to spread fear, America and the world were undoubtedly safer under President Donald Trump. One of our duties in Congress is to honor those who have contributed significantly to our nation, and that’s why I’m introducing this legislation.” Notably, it is also co-sponsored by House Freedom Caucus Chairman Bob Good, R-Va., who had a rocky relationship with some members of Trump’s orbit earlier this year. MASSIVE TRUMP BEACH RALLY IN DEEP-BLUE NJ DRAWS STARK CONTRAST TO BIDEN’S BEACH WEEKEND: ‘BIDEN COULD NEVER’ Good originally endorsed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for president before backing Trump when the former dropped out. He has since emphatically thrown himself behind the ex-president’s re-election bid. “President Trump did more in four years on behalf of the American people than any president in my lifetime. He secured our border, achieved historic peace in the Middle East, and implemented policies that helped our economy prosper,” said Good. “The last three years of a failed Biden administration have only served as a stark contrast to President Trump’s record.” Meanwhile, Ogles hailed Trump’s “contributions to the American heritage and stalwart defense of the American way of life” and Weber said “every patriotic American knows our country was unequivocally better off four years ago under his stewardship.” TRUMP BLASTS ‘HIGHLY CONFLICTED’ JUDGE AFTER MICHAEL COHEN’S FIRST DAY OF TESTIMONY WRAPS It is highly unlikely that the Democrat-controlled Senate will take the bill up, but it is more evidence that Trump remains the de facto leader of the GOP.
