2 House Republicans move to oust Speaker Johnson 6 months after he took gavel

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., announced plans to trigger a vote on ousting Speaker Mike Johnson next week. Greene was joined by Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., at a press conference outside the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday. The pair blasted Johnson after House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-NY., released a joint statement with other Democratic leaders announcing they would save Johnson. “We need leaders in the House of Representatives that are gonna get this done,” Greene said, holding up a red “Make America Great Again” hat. “Not working for Hakeem Jeffries. Not working for Joe Biden, and not going to be twisted and lulled into continuing the disgusting practices of Washington, D.C.” “Mike Johnson is not capable, is not capable of that job. He has proven it over and over again. Now we have Hakeem Jeffries and the Democrats coming out and embracing Mike Johnson with a warm hug and a big wet, sloppy kiss,” she said. “Next week, I am gonna be calling this motion to vacate.” Johnson said in a statement after her announcement, “This motion is wrong for the Republican Conference, wrong for the institution, and wrong for the country.” Greene responded to accusations that her push would fuel more chaos for Congressional Republicans by arguing that House Republicans would lose the majority in November if Johnson remained at the helm. She also denied that she was defying former President Trump, who backed Johnson in comments on a radio show last week. Placing the MAGA hat she brought to the press conference on her head, Greene said, “I’m the biggest supporter of President Trump and that’s why I proudly wear this MAGA hat…And that’s why I’m fighting here against my own Republican conference to fight harder against the Democrats.” The Georgia conservative filed a measure calling for a vote to oust Johnson, known as a motion to vacate the chair, roughly 40 days ago. Greene would have to declare her resolution as “privileged” on the House floor to force leaders to take it up within two legislative days, which she indicated she would do next week. Her push mostly fell flat within the House GOP, with even Johnson’s critics showing little appetite to go through another three weeks of chaos and disorder that followed the ouster of ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., in early October last year. Johnson got added backup from Democrats on Tuesday when House Democratic leaders released a joint statement declaring they would block a House-wide vote on ousting Johnson by voting to table the measure. It’s a procedural hurdle that takes place before the main vote which, if successful, would block the House from voting on the motion itself. But it’s not clear yet if their move would serve to hurt or help Johnson. Massie would not give Fox News Digital a definitive answer when asked how many Republicans he anticipated voting to oust Johnson next week, but said the House Democrats’ statement would likely move more people against the speaker. “I think it’s a kinetic situation. And Hakeem and the entire Democrat leadership team endorsing Mike Johnson is going to cause a lot of people who weren’t with us, to be with us,” Massie said. Meanwhile, he and Greene used the Democrats’ statement as a cudgel to prove Johnson was not as aligned with conservatives as he pledged to be when he won the gavel in late October. “I’m going to challenge my colleagues to think about it this weekend, because, as Marjorie Taylor Greene said, we’re coming back, and we’re voting on this next week. Right? And you get to have the choice if you’re a Republican, are you going to embrace Hakeem Jeffries like Mike Johnson has? Are you going to embrace the uniparty like Mike Johnson has?” Massie said. “Look, you’ve got Hakeem Jeffries hugging Mike Johnson and helping him keep his majority or keep his seat. But the reality is, this isn’t policy. This isn’t like some criminal justice reform where the left and the right can agree. This is about who holds that gavel.”
Sen Vance questions DOJ on companies favoring migrant workers over Americans

FIRST ON FOX: Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, is demanding answers from the Department of Justice about companies allegedly prioritizing hiring migrant workers over U.S. citizens, despite federal law requiring them to do the opposite. In a letter to Kristen Clarke, the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights, and Alberto Ruisanchez, the Chief of the Immigrant and Employee Rights Section (IER), Vance expressed his concerns as to whether the DOJ “is faithfully carrying out its statutory duty to protect American workers from employment practices that privilege asylum seekers, parolees, and other aliens over American citizens.” The letter was sent on Wednesday and was also signed by Sens. Mike Lee, R-Utah, and Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala. SENATE GRIDLOCK COULD WORSEN WITH ROMNEY, SINEMA, MANCHIN RETIREMENTS: EXPERTS Vance noted that under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), citizens of the U.S. are “protected” and cannot be discriminated against in hiring processes due to their status as American citizens. Under the same law, unauthorized aliens are not free from discrimination in the hiring process. Summarizing the law, Vance wrote that U.S. citizens are actually “more than protected — they are preferred.” The Ohio senator pointed to recent reports of companies specifically looking to hire migrants in the U.S. who are seeking asylum. One such report that fired up border security advocates was that of Tyson Foods, in which Bloomberg News detailed the company courting and hiring asylum seekers, who are not protected under INA, for jobs. GOP SENATORS AIR ‘DEEP CONCERNS’ OVER NPR BIAS, URGE CEO TO ‘START A COURSE CORRECTION’ According to the outlet, the company met in February with migrants from Venezuela, Mexico and Colombia, and hired 17 asylum seekers for roles at a plant in Humboldt, Tennessee. The company then reportedly hired 70 additional asylum seekers in March. Fox News Digital reached out to Tyson Foods for confirmation of the report but did not receive a response. The company has rejected “misinformation” that it would fire American workers to hire immigrants in the wake of the reports, adding that it is “strongly opposed to illegal immigration.” But it did not address the claims of hiring asylum seekers in its public statement. TIM SCOTT SAYS BIDEN ‘WILLING TO TANK’ ECONOMY BY GETTING RID OF TRUMP TAX CUTS Under the INA, individuals who are admitted to the U.S. as refugees or granted asylum are considered protected. However, the organization that Tyson Foods is working with, Tent Partnership for Refugees, has not made a clear distinction between refugees and individuals who are still seeking asylum, or whether its definitions of the terms are the same as the U.S. government’s. Further, companies joining the nonprofit’s coalition are facing allegations of violating the INA, despite the potential legal recognition of the refugees being hired. While the law does not allow protected groups to be hired based on origin or citizenship status, it also disallows favoring workers because of their status and potentially preferring them over U.S. workers. Vance noted that the DOJ’s IER has appeared to spend more time focused on enforcing anti-discrimination provisions for non-citizens and ensuring their protection in the hiring process than it has for U.S. citizens. He cited the number of press releases on anti-discrimination from IER over a two-year span and how many of them were addressing the rights of citizens, non-citizens, or both. DEM SENATE CANDIDATE ELISSA SLOTKIN’S ‘SMALL CONSULTING BUSINESS’ MAY HAVE NEVER BEEN ACTIVE He said the disparity “might be defensible if discriminatory employers rarely favored aliens, or if the problem of discrimination against U.S. citizens were receding, but instead discrimination against U.S. citizens is increasingly commonplace.” Vance claimed that “Employers have taken advantage of IER’s leniency.” He noted that many of the companies in Tent’s coalition have committed to various quotas of refugees to hire. “The INA prohibits hiring decisions that are made ‘because of’ an American job seeker’s U.S. citizenship. Can employers’ numerical hiring quotas coexist with that mandate?” The Ohio Republican asked the DOJ officials if it is “currently investigating any companies for unlawfully using refugee hiring quotas?” and how many such investigations have happened over the last two years. He also asked if the IER would begin to conduct investigations if it has not yet. Tent did not respond in time for publication to Fox News Digital’s request for clarification regarding its definitions of refugee and asylum and whether they are in keeping with the U.S. government. The DOJ did not provide comment to Fox News Digital in time for publication.
3 illegal immigrant child sex offenders captured while entering Texas in a single weekend

Border Patrol agents at the southern border stopped three child sex offenders entering the U.S. illegally in Texas over the weekend, the agency’s top official announced on Monday. Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens announced that agents in Eagle Pass, Rio Grande City and Cotulla arrested three criminal sex offenders. He said that all three of the men had prior felony convictions for “Indecency w/ child Sexual contact.” BORDER PATROL BUSTS ILLEGAL MEXICAN IMMIGRANT CHILD SEX OFFENDER THEY SAY CARRIED GUNS IN SCHOOL “They will be set up for prosecution and removal from the U.S.,” he said. The men were not named. CBP REPORT REVEALS LOWEST MARCH FOR MIGRANT ENCOUNTERS; TEXAS CRACKDOWN CONTINUES The three are in addition to number of sex offenders who have been nabbed either at the border or in the interior by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Earlier this month, agents in California announced that they had arrested a convicted sex offender who had been known to carry firearms in schools. So far, there have been over 8,700 arrests of criminal noncitizens this fiscal year, compared to more than 15,000 in fiscal 2023 and more than 12,000 in fiscal 2022. Among them this year were 119 sex offenders. CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF THE BORDER SECURITY CRISIS There has been continued concern among some law enforcement and lawmakers that the ongoing crisis at the southern border has led to more criminals attempting to enter, including sneaking past Border Patrol agents as “gotaways.” It comes amid a broader migrant crisis at the border that has engulfed the U.S. for more than four years and has had significant effects. There were more than 2.4 million migrant encounters in FY 2023. So far this fiscal year, there have been more than 1.3 million encounters up until the end of March. The Biden administration has called on Congress to provide more funding and a comprehensive immigration reform package to fix what it says is a “broken” system, while Republicans have demanded the administration roll back its policies and restore Trump-era policies they believe solved the border crisis.

Immigration ranks as top issue for Americans for longest consecutive monthly stretch in past 24 years: poll

Americans ranked immigration as the most important issue facing the United States for a third consecutive month, according to a new poll released on Tuesday. An April 1-22 Gallup survey found that 27% of Americans ranked immigration as the most important problem facing the U.S. Immigration topped Gallup’s open-ended trend for a third consecutive month. It marked the longest consecutive stretch for the immigration issue in the past 24 years. In December 2023, immigration tied with the government as the most important issue for Americans. That was the same month migrant encounters at the southern border hit a record 302,000. Immigration then surpassed the government as the most important issue for Gallup respondents in February – the same month a controversial bi-partisan border and foreign aid package tanked in the Senate. This year marks the first time immigration has ranked as the most important issue for Americans for several consecutive months since Gallup began updating the most important problem question monthly in March 2001. Immigration has been the top issue four times since 2000 – either alone or tied with another issue – at several points, including in 2014, 2018 and 2019. DHS DOCS REVEAL WHERE PAROLED MIGRANTS UNDER CONTROVERSIAL BIDEN FLIGHT PROGRAM ARE LANDING “For the third month in a row, immigration is the problem Americans name more than any other as the most important facing the U.S. While immigration has not ranked as the top problem often in Gallup’s monthly trend, it stands alone as the most politically polarizing issue in the past 25 years of Gallup’s measurement,” Gallup assessed. “The record surge of migrants at the southern U.S. border in December brought even more focus on the issue – and while attempted crossings have eased slightly since then, they are expected to increase as spring continues. President Joe Biden’s approval rating for his handling of immigration has been persistently poor. With the presidential election about six months away and immigration top of mind, the issue remains a significant vulnerability for Biden as he seeks reelection.” Gallup respondents have ranked the economy the top issue 101 times over the past 24 years – more times than any other issue has taken the top spot. The government has been the most important issue 85 times, while the Iraq War was the top issue 50 times. ARIZONA RANCHER’S DEFENSE EXPERT RIPS $1M ‘POLITICAL PROSECUTION’ BY ‘ETHICALLY BANKRUPT’ OFFICIALS The most recent poll found 48% of Republicans and 25% of Independents mentioned immigration as the most important problem, compared to just 8% of Democrats. The percentage of Republicans who cited immigration as the top issue has decreased since February’s record 57% high. In 2019, as many as 20% of Democrats mentioned immigration as the top issue. The latest survey showed independents mentioning immigration at a new high, though statistically similar readings were recorded in 2019 and in recent months, Gallup said.

Biden laments ‘extreme’ Florida abortion ban, blames Trump

President Biden is calling the newly implemented 6-week abortion restriction in Florida an “extreme ban” — and blaming former President Donald Trump. Biden released a statement Wednesday calling the pro-life limit on abortion eligibility a “nightmare.” “Today, an extreme abortion ban takes effect in Florida, banning reproductive health care before many women even know they are pregnant,” the president said in the statement. “There is one person responsible for this nightmare: Donald Trump.” TEXAS PREGNANCY CENTER PROVIDES FAITH-CENTERED ‘HOLISTIC CARE’ FOR WOMEN IN CRISIS Biden pointed to the Supreme Court’s 2022 decision that overturned Roe v. Wade and sent decisions about abortion restriction back to the states — a decision that is largely attributed to Trump’s rare triple-appointment of justices during his time in office. “Trump brags about overturning Roe v. Wade, making extreme bans like Florida’s possible, saying his plan is working ‘brilliantly.’ He thinks it’s brilliant that more than four million women in Florida, and more than one in three women in America, can’t get access to the care they need,” Biden continued. Florida’s new law replaces the state’s previous 15-week ban with a strict 6-week limit. BIDEN SPARKS CHRISTIAN GROUP’S ANGER AFTER MAKING SIGN OF THE CROSS AT ABORTION RALLY: ‘DISGUSTING INSULT’ It offers exceptions for rape, incest, and human trafficking up to 15 weeks and further legal carve outs for fatal abnormalities in the fetus and threats to the life of the mother. Biden also complained about Trump’s remarks in a recent interview with Time magazine in which he said he would leave it up to individual states on whether those traveling outside their state to seek abortions should be punished. “Now, [Trump] wants to go even further, making it clear he would sign a national abortion ban if elected,” Biden claimed. “Just yesterday, he once again endorsed punishing women for getting the care they need.” The former president did not endorse a national abortion ban in the Time interview and explicitly stated the issue should be left to the states. “Trump is worried the voters will hold him accountable for the cruelty and chaos he created. He’s right. Trump ripped away the rights and freedom of women in America,” Biden concluded. “This November, voters are going to teach him a valuable lesson: Don’t mess with the women of America.” Florida’s citizens will vote in November on a proposed constitutional ballot amendment to guarantee a right to abortion up until fetal viability.
Sanctuary city police arrest over 1K migrants from this country as residents rage against Dem leaders

A Democrat-run city’s police have reportedly made more than 1,000 arrests of Venezuelan nationals in the first three months of 2024 amid a massive outrage over additional money to feed and shelter migrants. There were 609 arrests for driving/traffic offenses, nine violent felonies, 75 violent misdemeanors and 313 other offenses listed as non-violent, with nine others listed as unknown or not listed, according to analysis of Chicago crime and arrest data by The Chicago Tribune. The data is limited to adults arrested by Chicago police and does not include juveniles or anyone arrested by another agency. The arrest data also does not say when those Venezuelan nationals arrived or their immigration status. The Tribune found that Venezuelans are less likely to be accused of violent crimes, including homicides. OUTRAGED RESIDENT WARNS WHAT $70M MIGRANT FUNDING WILL DO TO SANCTUARY CITY The report comes as there are continued signs of agitation and anger at the migrant influx and the response by local government officials to it. The Chicago City Council recently voted 30-18 to approve a request made by Mayor Brandon Johnson for an additional $70 million in order to help deal with the ongoing migrant crisis. That money is on top of a $150 million assigned to migrant care in the budget already. According to Johnson’s office, the city has at its peak been dealing with more than 2,000 migrants coming in a week. Nearly 40,000 have arrived since August 2022. CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF THE BORDER SECURITY CRISIS Mayor Johnson’s office said the funding request was to ensure the city is prepared “should there be any sudden increases in new arrivals sent by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.” The city aims to provide “basic necessities” including food, shelter, medical care, education, vaccines, case management and resettlement support. Abbott has bussed migrants to multiple “sanctuary” cities that do not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement, saying that they should bear the brunt of a national migrant crisis he believes they have encouraged with their policies. The U.S. has been in the grips of a migrant crisis now into its fourth year. Last fiscal year, there were more than 2.4 million migrant encounters at the southern border. The knock-on effects in cities across the country are having significant political implications. CHICAGO CITY COUNCIL APPROVES $70M FOR MIGRANT CARE DESPITE VOTER BACKLASH In Chicago, the council meeting to approve the extra funding was accompanied by significant backlash by residents who say the money should be being spent on the community itself rather than migrants. “The main objection is that there seems to be no end in sight,” activist P Rae Easley told Fox News Digital in an interview last week. “Every three or four months, there seems to be some new vote for a massive amount of taxpayer funds to be allocated to the illegals, and we have to put a stop to it, or it’s going to bankrupt our city.”
Trump says violence on college campuses ‘has to stop immediately’ amid violent anti-Israel protests

FIRST ON FOX: Former President Trump condemned the violent anti-Israel protests erupting on college campuses overnight, telling Fox News Digital that “weak and ineffective leadership” at universities must be immediately “replaced,” while declaring that antisemitism “must be stopped quickly and effectively. The former president and presumptive Republican presidential nominee was reacting to chaos on college campuses across the nation—from UCLA to Tulane University to Columbia University to the University of Arizona and beyond. Pro-Palestinian agitators clashed with pro-Israel students on UCLA’s campus overnight, with local officials warning students that the campus was “out of control” and “no longer safe.” Police with riot gear arrived at UCLA shortly after 1:00 a.m. at UCLA to gain control of campus amid hours of violence between anti-Israel and pro-Israel counterprotesters. TRUMP DECRIES COLUMBIA AGITATORS, CALLS CHARLOTTESVILLE ‘PEANUTS’ COMPARED TO CAMPUS ANTI-ISRAEL UNREST “This violence has to stop immediately,” Trump told Fox News Digital early Wednesday morning. “Weak and ineffective leadership at colleges and universities must be replaced, and fast.” UNIVERSITIES CRACK DOWN ON ANTI-ISRAEL AGITATORS AS PROTESTERS CALL FOR ‘AMNESTY’ “Antisemitism cannot be allowed to fester,” Trump said. “It must be stopped quickly and effectively.” Students have been arrested at Columbia University, City College of New York, Tulane University, the University of Arizona and more. Police dispersed gas, fired rubber bullets and clashed with demonstrators at the Arizona encampment. State troopers were seen on campus with pepper ball guns and gas masks. COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY LOCKS DOWN CAMPUS BUILDINGS FOLLOWING OVERNIGHT MUTINY: ‘EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY’ Violence broke out at an anti-Israel demonstration at UCLA overnight, including fights, items thrown and pepper spray being deployed. A demonstrator shot off a can of pepper spray and objects were thrown during the protest, Fox 11 reported. A police expert told the outlet that “professional agitators” appeared to be on the scene. Fireworks were also among the items thrown during the protest. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the violence on UCLA’s campus “absolutely abhorrent and inexcusable.” In New York, beyond arrests, NYPD officers restored the American flag on the City College of New York campus after it was replaced with a Palestinian flag by anti-Israel agitators during a protest.
