Top Biden official’s wife could face scrutiny over residency if she jumps into House race

The wife of a top official in President Biden’s White House is considering a run for Congress in New Hampshire, but she has not voted in the district for 16 years. Maggie Goodlander, the wife of Biden’s National Security Advisor, Jake Sullivan, is mulling a House bid in New Hampshire’s 2nd Congressional District, Democratic sources recently confirmed to Fox News Digital. However, the New Hampshire state archives reveal that she has not voted or held an address in the district since 2008. Records reviewed by Fox News Digital show that the last time Goodlander voted in the district was by absentee ballot for the 2008 presidential primary and general elections. TOP BIDEN ADVISER’S WIFE CONSIDERING RUN FOR HOUSE SEAT IN KEY SWING STATE Goodlander did not vote in several following elections, but she eventually registered in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District in 2016. Fox News Digital reached out to Goodlander for comment. TOP BIDEN ADVISER RIPPED AFTER MIDDLE EAST CLAIM RESURFACES AMID IRAN ATTACK: ‘MORON EXTRAORDINAIRE’ Goodlander currently works as a top lawyer in the Biden administration’s Department of Justice, residing in Washington, D.C., with her husband. Goodlander’s grandfather, Sam Tamposi, was a major player in state Republican politics. And her mother, Betty Tamposi, ran for the House in 1988 in the Second Congressional District but lost in the GOP primary. The seat in the Granite State’s 2nd district was recently vacated after Democratic Rep. Annie Kuster announced that she would not be seeking re-election at the end of her term. If Goodlander jumps in, the House race could garner several high-profile endorsements stemming from the couple’s ties to the Clintons, former President Barack Obama and President Biden. Border state lawmaker sounds alarm on bloodthirsty Venezuelan gang entering US: ‘They have no rules’

A congressman whose district is along the southern border is warning about the dangers posed by a bloodthirsty Venezuelan street gang whose presence has grown in the United States amid the ongoing migrant crisis. “This gang in several years is going to be the dominant transnational criminal organization throughout the United States. There’s no doubt in my mind,” Rep. Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, told Fox News Digital in an interview. Last month, a CBP source provided Fox with an internal intelligence bulletin revealing tattoos and identifiers for Tren de Aragua (TdA), a Venezuelan street gang. Members of that gang have been entering the U.S. illegally through the southern border. The gang drew additional attention when it emerged that the brother of the suspect in the killing of Georgia student Laken Riley had ties to the gang. Both are Venezuelan illegal immigrants. OPINION: VENEZUELAN GANGS ARE IMPORTING NEXT-LEVEL BRUTALITY, FEAR TO OUR STREETS TdA is said to specialize in extortion, kidnapping, murder and sex trafficking. Federal authorities have been warning that the gang is trying to establish itself in the U.S., where police are already linking it to organized crime. The FBI has also warned that the gang could team up with the bloodthirsty MS-13. CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF THE BORDER SECURITY CRISIS “They’re very vicious. They have no rules. They gobble up territory almost like a cancer,” Gonzales said. Gonzales, who represents a majority Hispanic district, says the arrivals are part of a change in the flow of immigration across the border. “Immigration isn’t new to us. We’ve lived it for decades, but it’s no longer Mexican nationals coming over looking for work,” Gonzales said. “It’s no longer passive people just trying to kind of mosey about their business. It is a different element of people. “They’re more aggressive, they’re demanding and they’re culturally not the same. And that’s why, once again, a district 70% Hispanic, the people in my district had enough. They’re like, ‘To hell with these people. They’re coming over. I don’t feel safe. They’re very aggressive.’ And you know what? If someone knocked on my door and they had face tattoos with teardrops … I probably wouldn’t feel safe either.” BLOODTHIRSTY VENEZUELAN GANG TREN DE ARAGUA SETS UP SHOP IN US AS BORDER AUTHORITIES SOUND ALARM On visits to the border in the El Paso Sector, he said, officials had told him migrants will be afraid of TdA members when in detention. He also pointed to oil thefts in other parts of the border. He said the response should be “immediate repercussions.” “So Border Patrol has to have the tools where they can vet some of these people far more than what is happening,” Gonzales said, warning that people are just “cycling through.” He also said Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has to be strong and nationally present. “You have to have ICE have the ability to go around and actively hunt these criminal aliens that have committed crimes, hunt them down and deport them,” Gonzales said. “That has to happen. And when it does happen, it can’t happen in a vacuum. People have to know what’s happening. And it can’t just happen in one part of the country. It has to happen throughout the country.” He also called for a “seamless” mission and cooperation between local, state and federal officials. “And I think the communities that do that, I think Texas will be at the forefront of this,” Gonzales said. “The communities that do that will be the ones that do not have this issue years from now.”
Feds gave $700M to Planned Parenthood during year of record abortions

The federal government gave nearly $700 million to Planned Parenthood during a one-year span in which the clinic performed a record number of abortions, which coincided with a decline in all other major services, a recent report shows. Meanwhile, the Biden administration has vowed to expand access to Planned Parenthood’s abortion services. Planned Parenthood’s 2022-2023 report released Tuesday, called “Above and Beyond,” found that several non-abortion categories of services were down, compared to the previous year. Contraceptive services, including counseling, were down by 4%, cancer screenings dropped 1% and pap smears were down by nearly 14%. Adoption referrals dipped by 5%, and preventative visits dropped by 4%. Planned Parenthood conducted 392,715 abortions between Oct. 1, 2021, and Sept. 30, 2022 — a 5% increase from the 2021-2022 period. MISSOURI LAW BANNING GENDER-CHANGING TREATMENTS FOR MINORS TAKES EFFECT The Biden-Harris administration ramped up its support for Planned Parenthood’s abortion access following the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022. Vice President Kamala Harris toured a Minnesota Planned Parenthood clinic last month, making her the first sitting VP to visit an abortion facility. At the time, Harris said “attacks against an individual’s right to make decisions about their own body are outrageous, and in many instances, just plain immoral.” The demand for abortion where states have limited or fully restricted its access rose by 700%, Planned Parenthood’s report noted. In 2023, more than two dozen Planned Parenthood affiliates helped more than 33,000 women get abortions through financial and transportation assistance. “Since the Supreme Court’s decision to take away the federal constitutional right to abortion, more than 20 states have banned some or all abortions,” the report noted. “For Planned Parenthood health center staff, this was a year of moving mountains: finding appointments in other states and the resources to get patients there, building as much capacity as possible for abortion appointments, fulfilling increased demand in some places for birth control, and much more.” ARIZONA SUPREME COURT UPHOLDS NEAR-TOTAL ABORTION BAN Pro-life groups slammed the report on Friday. “Planned Parenthood’s annual report illustrates their priorities,” Tessa Longbons Cox, senior researcher at Charlotte Lozier Institute told Fox News Digital. “Ultimately, they are an abortion business. It’s no surprise that even as total patients and services fell from the previous year, profits soared and Planned Parenthood performed more abortions than ever.” DEMS WILL MAKE STATE SANCTUARY FOR KIDS’ GENDER TRANSITIONS, ABORTION OVER GOP PROTEST The founder of pro-life group Live Action, Lila Rose, called the Biden administration’s funding of Planned Parenthood “grotesque.” “Our government makes every American taxpayer complicit in this killing,” she said.
Man reportedly on fire outside of New York Trump trial

DEVELOPING STORYDEVELOPING STORY, Emergency crews doused the flames and man taken away on stretcher, according to US media reports. A man was reportedly on fire outside of the Manhattan courthouse where former United States President Donald Trump is standing trial on criminal charges for falsifying business records. CNN reported the man was covered in flames outside of the courthouse. Inside, the fourth day of the Trump trial was unfolding, with jury selection concluding. A correspondent for the network was reporting live on air when the incident occurred at a park across the street. “There is chaos that is happening,” she said. “I can smell the burning of agent used.” “We now have officers removing their coats, trying to surround his body to engulf him from further going into flames,” she said. “People are climbing over the barricade to try to separate the public from this man.” A video of the incident showed the man still in flames and twitching on the concrete as a police officer rushed over with a fire extinguisher. Politico reporter Emily Ngo said that police appeared to initially have trouble reaching the man due to barricades around the park. There has been massive security at the trial as Trump faces felony charges related to hush money payments he allegedly made to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Reporters from across the world have been staked out at the courthouse during the trial. “very scary, active scene,” Ngo wrote on X. “He was responsive when he was removed but he is very, very badly burned. Body charred,” she wrote. The man, whose identity was not immediately known, was carried away on a stretcher. This is a developing story. Adblock test (Why?)
US policy is leading to a wider war: Jeffrey Sachs on Middle East tensions

Marc Lamont Hill discusses US policy in the Middle East and the risks of escalation with renowned scholar Jeffrey Sachs. Six months into Israel’s war on Gaza, fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East are mounting. On April 13, Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles towards Israel in an unprecedented attack. The strike came after Israel’s April 1 bombing of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, Syria that killed two top generals. Israel vowed retaliation and, less than a week later, reportedly launched a drone strike on Isfahan, in central Iran. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the United States has “not been involved in any offensive operations”. But the US government has announced new sanctions on Iran, including on its drone production, and urged de-escalation. So what lies ahead? And is the US doing enough to avert a wider regional conflict? On UpFront this week, Marc Lamont Hill talks to Columbia University Professor and Special Advisor to the United Nations Jeffrey Sachs about US foreign policy and rising tensions in the Middle East. Croatia’s top court bars President Milanovic from becoming prime minister

Constitutional Court says Zoran Milanovic cannot take up PM post because he did not first step down as president. Croatia’s top court has ruled that President Zoran Milanovic, who had campaigned to become prime minister before this week’s parliamentary elections, may not head the new government. “The president has been warned in time that he cannot participate in the campaign but that he must [first] resign. Now it is over. He can no longer be a prime minister-designate,” Constitutional Court President Miroslav Separovic said at a news conference on Friday. “Everyone is obliged to adhere to the constitution and the law,” he added. Croatia held parliamentary elections on Wednesday, in which the ruling conservative Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) won the most seats but not enough to form a government alone. The vote was held after a bitter campaign between longtime political foes – the conservative incumbent, Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, and the left-wing populist Milanovic. For months, Plenkovic and his Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) party seemed poised for an easy victory that would secure his third term as premier. But in mid-March, Milanovic, who tops opinion polls, made the shock announcement that he would challenge Plenkovic and become the candidate for the Social Democrats. Milanovic dissolved parliament on March 18, triggering this week’s snap election in the European Union member state of 3.8 million people. He said he would run for prime minister and resign only after winning the polls. The Constitutional Court then immediately warned him that he could only stand in the elections if he first stepped down as president. But Milanovic ignored the warning and campaigned across the country, accusing Plenkovic of leading the “most corrupt government in Croatia’s history”. Corruption has long been the Achilles heel of the HDZ, which has been in power most of the time since Croatia’s 1991 independence from Yugoslavia. The HDZ won 61 seats in the 151-member assembly, and a centre-left coalition led by the Social Democratic Party (SPD) won 42. The nationalist, right-wing Homeland Movement party came third with 14 seats, making it a likely kingmaker. ‘Preparation for coup d’etat’ Al Jazeera’s Marina Barukcic, reporting from Zagreb, said President Milanovic’s next move was unclear after the court’s verdict. “He believes that the Constitutional Court’s decision is a preparation for a coup d’etat led by Prime Minister Andrej Milanovic,” she said. Barukcic said the president promised to bring back the will of the people to the state. Plenkovic said on Thursday that it would be known “very soon” with whom the party would form a new parliamentary majority. The SDP was also trying to cobble together a majority although its task appears more difficult. Croatia has a parliamentary democracy in which the prime minister and his cabinet set all major policies. The president nominates the prime minister based on election results, may dissolve parliament and acts as the head of the armed forces with some say in foreign policy. Final election results are not expected until next week because a rerun is needed in two polling stations after irregularities were recorded. Adblock test (Why?)

Trump trial: Full jury sworn in, setting the stage for opening arguments to begin Monday

The full jury, including alternate jurors, has been selected and sworn in former President Trump’s criminal trial in New York City, setting the stage for opening arguments to begin next week. Twelve jurors were seated on Thursday at the end of the third day of jury selection. By mid-day Friday, all alternate jurors had been selected and sworn in. TRUMP HUSH MONEY TRIAL: MEET THE JURORS WHO WILL HEAR BRAGG’S CASE AGAINST THE 2024 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE Judge Juan Merchan, who is presiding over the trial, instructed jurors ahead of the weekend not to discuss or to research anything relating to the former president’s case. TRUMP SAYS BIDEN ‘SHOULD BE IN JAIL’ AND ‘ON TRIAL,’ WHILE BLASTING NY CASE: ‘THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING’ Merchan said opening arguments will be delivered by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s team and Trump defense attorneys. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, has been charged by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. The charges are related to alleged hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Trump has pleaded not guilty to all counts. He has blasted the trial as pure politics, a “political persecution” and maintains his innocence. The former president is expected to testify during his trial. “I tell the truth,” Trump said last week, when asked about his possible testimony. Trump is the first president in United States history to stand criminal trial. The former president is governed by a gag order, which Merchan imposed upon him last month before the trial began. Merchan ordered that Trump cannot make or direct others to make public statements about witnesses concerning their potential participation or about counsel in the case — other than Bragg — or about court staff, DA staff or family members of staff. Merchan also ordered that Trump cannot make or direct others to make public statements about any prospective juror or chosen juror. Bragg has argued in the first week of the trial that Trump has violated his gag order more than seven times, and wants him to pay a $1,000 fine. Bragg, in his motion, urged the judge to warn the former president that another violation could be punishable by up to 30 days incarceration. Trump and his defense attorneys have argued that the former president and presumptive Republican presidential nominee should not be bound by the gag order, and said it violates his First Amendment rights, as well as the First Amendment rights of his supporters. The judge is expected to rule on whether Trump actually violated the order by early next week. The former president has blasted the case this week. “The whole world is watching this New York scandal,” Trump said, calling it a “spectacle.” TRUMP JUROR PREVIOUSLY ARRESTED FOR RIPPING DOWN RIGHT-LEANING POLITICAL ADS DISMISSED FROM TRIAL “It is political and it is a shame—it is a shame,” Trump said Thursday after court finished for the day. The former president blasted Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg as “out of control” and said Judge Juan Merchan who is presiding over the case is “highly conflicted.” “The whole thing is a mess,” he said. TRUMP SAYS CRIMINAL TRIAL IS HAVING ‘REVERSE EFFECT’ AS HE CAMPAIGNS AT NEW YORK BODEGA, VOWS TO SAVE CITY Trump has blasted the case as election interference and has said Democrats and allies of President Biden, his 2024 opponent, want to keep him off the campaign trail. Trump, though, held a campaign event in Upper Manhattan Tuesday evening at a Harlem bodega. He highlighted crime in New York City and said he would work with Democratic lawmakers in the city to fix the city’s issues, should he be elected. Trump was greeted at that bodega by a massive crowd of supporters chanting “four more years.” The former president said that he thinks being confined to the courtroom will have a “reverse effect” to what he said the Democrats are hoping for, and feels it will energize his base and new voters ahead of the 2024 election.
