A social media account belonging to President Biden’s re-election campaign was slammed on social media after it posted a clip that left out key context from former President Donald Trump’s speech on illegal immigrants committing violent crimes across the U.S. The account, under the username Biden-Harris HQ, posted a 7-second clip of Trump saying illegal immigrants are “animals” — but cut out Trump’s statement from just seconds before that shows the comment was directed to migrants recently convicted of murder. “Democrats said please don’t call immigrants ‘animals.’ I said, no, they’re not humans, they’re animals,” Trump is seen saying in the short clip posted by the campaign account, leaving out key context from moments before where the former president was discussing the illegal immigrant arrested for the murder of Laken Riley. In Trump’s full statement, left out by the Biden account, he said “just a few weeks ago I met with the grieving family of Laken Riley,” adding that the 22-year-old was “barbarically murdered by an illegal alien animal. DOJ sues Utah for ‘discrimination based on gender dysphoria’ of transgender prisoner
The Department of Justice (DOJ) is suing the state of Utah, including the Utah Department of Corrections (UDOC), for allegedly discriminating against a transgender inmate who removed his own testicles after suffering from gender dysphoria. In Monday’s announcement, the DOJ claims the state violated the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by discriminating against the inmate on the basis of the individual’s gender dysphoria “by denying her equal access to healthcare services and failing to reasonably modify policies, practices, or procedures where necessary to avoid discrimination.” The transgender inmate was unnamed in the court documents. COLORADO COULD BECOME THE FIRST STATE TO BUILD SEPARATE PRISON UNITS FOR TRANSGENDER FELONS “People with gender dysphoria, including those held in jails and prisons, are protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act and are entitled to equal access to medical care just like anyone else with a disability,” assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke said in a statement Monday. “Delays or refusals to provide medical treatment for people with gender dysphoria can cause irreparable harm, including debilitating distress, depression, attempts at self-treatment and even death by suicide. The Civil Rights Division is committed to protecting the rights of all people with disabilities in our country, including those who experience gender dysphoria — and those rights are not given up at the jailhouse door.” The DOJ claims the UDOC “has also imposed unnecessary eligibility criteria for evaluation and treatment for gender dysphoria for incarcerated persons at UDOC that it does not require for other health conditions.” The filing also says the UDOC denied all the inmate’s requests, including modifying pat searches, providing female makeup, clothing and other items in the commissary to match the prisoner’s gender identity. Additionally, the UDOC did not “individually assess her housing requests” to be transferred to a women’s prison, and denied requests for male-to-female hormone prescriptions, according to the DOJ. TRANS INMATE WHO KILLED BABY AND IDENTIFIES AS MUSLIM WOMAN SUES CHAPLAIN FOR ALLEGEDLY NOT ALLOWING HIJAB In May 2023, the inmate “performed dangerous self-surgery and removed her own testicles, resulting in hospitalization and additional surgery,” the DOJ’s nine-page lawsuit states. Heritage Foundation legal fellow Sarah Marshall Perry told Fox News Digital on Tuesday that the DOJ “is relying on a single, first-of-its-kind federal court decision holding that ‘gender dysphoria’ — the distress that results from a person feeling that he or she is the wrong sex — is a disability that must be accommodated under the Americans with Disabilities Act, even though the precise language of the ADA makes clear that ‘gender identity disorders not resulting from physical impairments’ are not disabilities for purposes of federal civil rights law.” “Until and unless another federal circuit finds correctly that a plain reading of the ADA excludes gender identity disorders and gender dysphoria, states — and their affiliated department of corrections — will find themselves at the losing end of demands for ‘gender-affirming care’ on the taxpayer dime,” she said. ACLU SUES INDIANA OVER DENIAL OF SEX REASSIGNMENT SURGERY FOR INMATE WHO STRANGLED 11-MONTH-OLD TO DEATH Last month, the DOJ’s investigation of the state’s penitentiary found officials had “unnecessarily delayed” the transgender inmate’s requests. While UDOC does not comment on pending litigation, corrections executive director Brian Redd said last month the state was “blindsided” by the DOJ’s investigation findings, and said “we fundamentally disagree with the DOJ on key issues, and are disappointed with their approach.” The DOJ’s lawsuit comes as several states are moving to provide more access to sex-change surgical procedures and non-invasive prescriptions. While California became the first state in 2017 to grant these services to inmates in 2017, Colorado is also poised to become the first state in the country with segregated holding cells for transgender women in prison.

The report also said he is surrounded by “protective aides who want to minimize the chances of a flub,” something he has dealt with in recent months as he has made several blunders that have called into question his mental acuity. “The man’s been successful for decades in Congress and became vice president and president,” a source told NBC News. “If you try to change the person, you’re making a mistake. President Biden’s condemnation of the Israeli airstrike that killed seven food aid workers in Gaza earlier this week isn’t sitting well with some critics, who called the president’s reaction “obvious hypocrisy.” Biden responded after the World Central Kitchen (WCK) nonprofit, founded by celebrity chef Jose Andres, announced Tuesday that it was pausing all its operations in Gaza after seven of its food aid workers – including a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen — were killed by an “unforgivable” Israeli airstrike. “I am outraged and heartbroken by the deaths of seven humanitarian workers from World Central Kitchen, including one American, in Gaza yesterday,” Biden wrote in a statement. “They were providing food to hungry civilians in the middle of a war. They were brave and selfless. Their deaths are a tragedy.” Israel pledged to investigate what exactly took place and how the airstrike mistakenly killed the food aid workers, with Biden remarking that the investigation “must be swift, it must bring accountability, and its findings must be made public.” AMERICAN NEARING 600 DAYS IN TALIBAN CAPTIVITY AS WIFE PLEADS WITH BIDEN OFFICIALS FOR HELP “Even more tragically, this is not a stand-alone incident,” the president added. “This conflict has been one of the worst in recent memory in terms of how many aid workers have been killed. Arizona abortion rights group secures signatures for 2024 ballot referendum
Arizona activists say they have gathered enough signatures to put a constitutional amendment to create a “fundamental right” to abortion on the state’s ballot in November. Arizona for Abortion Access, a coalition of pro-choice groups including the ACLU of Arizona and Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona, says it has collected more than 500,000 signatures from registered voters who want to see abortion rights on the ballot. The threshold to place an initiative on the ballot is 383,923 signatures, which must be turned in to the Arizona secretary of state no later than July 3, 2024. With more than three months remaining to collect additional signatures, the coalition expects the amendment will be placed on the ballot even if some are invalidated during the verification process. “We regularly see high enthusiasm for the measure in communities all over Arizona. Voters of all parties tell us they believe people, not the government, should be in charge of their own bodies and health care decisions,” said Dawn Penich, a spokeswoman for Arizona for Abortion Access. PRO-LIFE ADVOCATES SOUND ALARM ON ‘EXTREME’ FLORIDA ABORTION VOTE THAT DEMS HOPE COULD SWING GENERAL ELECTION “That support is precisely why we’ve been able to collect so many signatures already with more than three months still to go. NBC News first reported that Arizona for Abortion Access had gathered 506,892 petition signatures. When the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, it ended constitutional protections for abortion rights and returned the issue to the states. In the years since, several states have enacted laws to restrict or ban the procedure, while others have adopted state constitutional amendments to enshrine a woman’s right to end her pregnancy before it comes to term. Ballot initiatives guaranteeing abortion rights have succeeded even in red states like Kansas and Ohio. Democrats hope that the Arizona initiative and a similar one in Florida will boost their turnout in key swing states and replicate the victories the party won in the 2022 midterm elections after campaigning to protect so-called reproductive rights. FLORIDA SUPREME COURT APPROVES ABORTION BALLOT INITIATIVE WHILE UPHOLDING 15-WEEK BAN The constitutional amendment proposed by Arizona for Abortion Access would create a “fundamental right” to obtain an abortion up until fetal viability, around the 24th week of pregnancy. The amendment includes exceptions when a health care professional determines an abortion is necessary to “protect the life or physical or mental health of the pregnant individual.” Pro-life groups argue the mental health exemption is too vague and will allow women to easily obtain permission to abort a viable baby in a late-term pregnancy. MAINE GOP LAWMAKER SOUNDS ALARM ON ‘SANCTUARY STATE’ PROPOSAL FOR ABORTIONS AND SEX CHANGES “Unfortunately, most voters are not told that under this unregulated, unlimited abortion amendment they will lose the required medical doctor, critical and commonsense safety standards for girls and women seeking abortion, and moms and dads will be shut out of their minor daughter’s abortion decision, leaving her to go through the painful and scary process alone,” said Cindy Dahlgren, spokeswoman for the It Goes Too Far campaign, which opposes the amendment. “It’s reckless to give up these critical standards just to expand abortion beyond the current 15 weeks and beyond what most voters support. Nearly 80% of voters support limits on abortion,” Dahlgren said. Current Arizona law restricts abortion after the 15th week of pregnancy, with a lone exception to save the mother’s life in a medical emergency. The Arizona Supreme Court is also reviewing a challenge to an 1864 law, adopted before Arizona became a state, that imposes a near total ban on abortions and makes performing or helping a woman obtain an abortion a felony punishable by two to five years in prison. The proposed amendment would invalidate this law and other abortion restrictions enacted in Arizona.
Blinken, US delegation drive from Paris to Brussels after his plane again suffers a ‘mechanical issue’
Secretary of State Antony Blinken and an American delegation were forced to drive from Paris to Brussels to attend a NATO meeting Wednesday after his plane was again grounded due to a “mechanical issue,” the State Department said. The incident involving the aircraft, identified by Bloomberg as a modified Boeing 737, happened after Blinken’s travel plans were upended in January when the plane he was using to visit Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting encountered what the State Department described as a “mechanical issue” as well. “Due to a mechanical issue with the aircraft, Secretary Blinken and the American delegation drove from Paris to Brussels to attend the NATO Foreign Minister’s meeting,” a State Department spokesperson said Wednesday following the latest incident. The trip between the French and Belgian capitals is about a 4-hour, 200-mile journey. Blinken had met with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Tuesday. BLINKEN DELAYED IN SWITZERLAND AFTER BOEING JET SUFFERS ‘MECHANICAL ISSUE’ “Secretary Blinken and President Macron reaffirmed strong support for Ukraine’s fight for freedom against Russia’s aggression,” State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a statement. “They also agreed on the importance of preventing the conflict in Gaza from expanding, including avoiding escalation in Lebanon; discussed challenges posed by the People’s Republic of China; and discussed efforts to bolster global food security through coordination on the Vision for Adapted Crops and Soils (VACS).” In January, the State Department said the U.S. Air Force sent a replacement plane to Switzerland to bring Blinken home from the meetings in Davos. Lauren Boebert has surgery to remove blood clot, diagnosed with rare condition
Populist firebrand Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., underwent surgery Tuesday to remove an acute blood clot, and she was subsequently diagnosed with May-Thurner syndrome, a rare condition that disrupts blood flow. Boebert, 37, was admitted to UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, Colorado, after experiencing severe swelling in her upper left leg, her campaign said in a statement posted to Facebook late Tuesday. She underwent a CT scan, during which doctors found the clot. LAUREN BOEBERT WON’T ‘FURTHER IMPERIL’ SLIM GOP MAJORITY BY RUNNING IN SPECIAL ELECTION FOR KEN BUCK’S SEAT Boebert then had surgery to remove the clot and doctors inserted a stent to address the congresswoman’s symptoms. There, she was also diagnosed with May-Thurner syndrome, also known as iliac vein compression syndrome. It is described by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) as a rare vascular condition that affects a vein in the pelvis. It occurs when a nearby artery compresses the left iliac vein which brings blood from the pelvis and legs back up to the heart. The compression prevents blood from flowing properly, leading to narrowing and scarring. Boebert is resting and is expected to make a full recovery. Boebert has already said she is not running for the seat in the June 25 special election which Buck’s resignation triggered. Buck’s resignation saw the GOP House majority slim to 218-213.

Former President Trump is cheering on efforts in Nebraska to change the state electoral system to “winner-take-all.” Nebraska is one of only two states in the U.S. that do not use the winner-take-all system, the other being Maine. The two states assign votes in the Electoral College based on district, sometimes leading to Democrats snagging an extra delegate from the mostly red state. Gov. Jim Pillen came out in support of a bill introduced by a state senator seeking to align Nebraska’s electoral system with the rest of the country.
