Federal judge blocks Trump attempt to freeze more than $2 billion in Harvard funds
A U.S. judge in Boston on Wednesday blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to terminate roughly $2.2 billion in federal research funding for Harvard University — marking a major victory for the nation’s oldest college, which has sparred with Trump officials for months over federal funding. U.S. District Judge Allison D. Burroughs rejected the Trump administration’s assertion that it was attempting to strip Harvard of the billions in federal funding due to allegations of antisemitism, or the university’s failure to comply with the recommendations of a federal antisemitism task force. “A review of the administrative record makes it difficult to conclude anything other than that defendants used antisemitism as a smokescreen for a targeted, ideologically-motivated assault on this country’s premier universities,” Burroughs said in the 84-page decision. HARVARD PRESIDENT SAYS HE HAS ‘NO CHOICE’ BUT TO FIGHT TRUMP ADMINISTRATION “We must fight against antisemitism, but we equally need to protect our rights, including our right to free speech, and neither goal should nor needs to be sacrificed on the altar of the other,” she said in her order. “Harvard is currently, even if belatedly, taking steps it needs to take to combat antisemitism and seems willing to do even more if need be,” she added. The decision by Burroughs is a major victory for the university. It comes months after lawyers for Harvard sued the Trump administration in April over the administration’s attempts to freeze more than $2.2 billion in federal funding and block off other grant money, which lawyers for the university argued in court amounted to an unconstitutional “pressure campaign” to influence and exert control over its academic programs. The Trump administration, for its part, accused Harvard of “fostering violence, antisemitism, and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party on its campus.” CONTINUED COURT FIGHTS COULD PUT HARVARD IN UNWINNABLE POSITION VS TRUMP Lawyers for the Trump administration also told Burroughs that they had “every right” to cancel the funding after Harvard refused to comply with the demands made by a federal antisemitism task force, which they sought to frame in court as a mere contract issue, and one that should be heard in a different court. Both the Justice Department and lawyers for Harvard University had requested that Burroughs, an Obama appointee, decide the case via summary judgment by early September — a timeline that allowed them to avoid a lengthy trial before the start of the new school year. JUDGES V TRUMP: HERE ARE THE KEY COURT BATTLES HALTING THE WHITE HOUSE AGENDA Burroughs had ordered both sides to court for lengthy arguments in July, and ended the hearing by saying she would issue a ruling after she had sufficient time to weigh the matters presented before her in court. The ruling Wednesday is a victory for Harvard in its months-long legal fight with the Trump administration. “In an unsurprising turn of events, the same Obama-appointed judge that ruled in favor of Harvard’s illegal race-based admissions practices — which was ultimately overturned by the Supreme Court — just ruled against the Trump administration’s efforts to hold Harvard accountable for rampant discrimination on campus.” Madi Biedermann, a senior communications official for the Department of Education, told Fox News Digital in a statement. “Cleaning up our nation’s universities will be a long road, but worth it.” Since Trump took office in January, the Trump administration has targeted Harvard with investigations from six separate federal agencies — prompting lawyers for the university to argue this year that the efforts were nothing more than a pressure campaign designed to coerce them into compliance with the administration’s policies. To date, Harvard is the only major university to take the Trump administration to court over these efforts.

The Army has canceled its Command Assessment Program, a promotion board that factored psychological assessments and potential biases into leadership considerations. “Good riddance,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wrote on X. “Promotions across [Department of Defense] will ONLY be based on merit & performance.” The program, which was implemented broadly across the Army in 2020, was aimed at reducing conscious and subconscious biases and using peer assessments and behavioral analysis to choose candidates for command posts. NAVY SECRETARY PUSHES REVIEW BOARD TO PURGE DEI FROM NAVAL ACADEMY AND RESTORE ‘WARRIOR ETHOS’ Former Army Secretary Christine Wormuth had made CAP an official program of record just before President Donald Trump took office. “The battery of psychometric assessments employs several different instruments to measure cognitive capacity, emotional intelligence, conscientiousness, self-awareness, and other behavioral traits,” Army documents explaining CAP said. Each year, around 2,000 candidates were assessed under CAP for Army leadership positions. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll paused the program and placed it under review last month. The program did not generate greater interest in leadership roles. Around 54% of the Army’s eligible senior officers chose not to participate in CAP last year, declining the opportunity to take on a command role. That was up from 40% in 2019. HEGSETH TEARS UP RED TAPE, ORDERS PENTAGON TO BEGIN DRONE SURGE AT TRUMP’S COMMAND The Army will now revert to its prior assessment process, Centralized Selection Board/List, CSL, for choosing commanding officers. Officers who serve on CSL boards assess a candidate’s past assignments, performance and potential. CAP’s credibility was further compromised when Gen. Charles Hamilton, commander of Army Materiel Command, was relieved of duty. He was investigated for improperly influencing the selection process in favor of a lieutenant colonel who had failed her CAP assessment. An Inspector General investigation led to his firing in December 2024. Epstein victims press lawmakers to support bill to release hidden files, say Americans will be ‘appalled’
A lawyer representing victims of Jeffrey Epstein said Wednesday that the American public is “going to be appalled” about documents relating to the disgraced late financier that have not been released by the federal government. “The government has mistreated them after Jeffrey Epstein mistreated them,” Bradley Edwards said of the victims in Washington, D.C. Edwards spoke during a news conference that is part of an effort by Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., to pass through the House a procedural motion known as a discharge petition, which could force a House vote urging the Justice Department to release the Epstein files. “We filed lawsuits against Jeffrey Epstein, against his estate and against two financial institutions — JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank, that prove that they provided, knowingly provided the financial infrastructure for a sex trafficking operation. Unfortunately, all of the documents and evidence that we have worked so hard to gather hide behind protective orders, confidentiality agreements and bank secrecy laws,” Edwards said. “That is why this discharge petition is so important. While we have seen the documents, you haven’t, and when you see the documents, you’re going to be appalled, and the American people deserve to see everything,” he added. “The documents in the possession of the CIA should be made available. Those in the possession of the FBI going back decades should be made available,” Edwards continued. “Everybody knows that evil flourishes in the darkness. Corruption flourishes in secrecy. BLUE STATES DEFLECT BLAME IN TRUMP PROBE AFTER ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT TRUCKER CRASH KILLS 3 IN FLORIDA Moody’s bill, the Safer Truckers Act of 2025, comes on the heels of a tragedy in Florida. Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant from India, allegedly struck and killed three people in a tractor-trailer while making an illegal U-turn on a Florida highway on Aug. 12. The trailer jackknifed and collided with a minivan, killing all three of its passengers. Singh held a CDL from California and was previously licensed by the state of Washington. Federal investigators said Singh had failed English proficiency and road sign tests prior to the collision. Should states not enforce English proficiency requirements, their eligibility for federal funding could be jeopardized. “States must ensure that folks are safe on our roadways, and if they don’t, they should forfeit federal funding,” Moody said.

I am calling on the House of Representatives to censure her remarks and put Democrats on notice for enabling and cheering on antisemitism in their own party,” Carter told Fox News Digital. New ICE detention facility ‘Louisiana Lockup’ opens at notorious prison
FIRST ON FOX – A new Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility dubbed “Louisiana Lockup” is now open at the notorious Louisiana State Penitentiary to house some of the “worst of the worst” criminal illegal migrants. Fifty-one migrants have already been moved to the facility, a Department of Homeland Security official told Fox News. The prison, known as Angola prison, sits on 18,000 acres, and was once named the “bloodiest prison in the South” for its harsh conditions. According to the Angola Museum, the prison earned the nickname in 1962 because stabbings became so common. Inmates sued the state in the early 1970s over the harsh conditions, and a federal court mandated reform. DHS PLANS ‘CORNHUSKER CLINK’ DETENTION CENTER AS TRUMP EXPANDS IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is partnering with Louisiana to use a portion of the prison to expand detention space by 416 beds. The funding comes from the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which allows ICE to add 80,000 new detention beds to help ramp up deportations. The detainees will be housed in an unused section called Camp J, which was once known as the “Dungeon” because most of the cells were used for solitary confinement. In late July, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry declared a state emergency to allow expedited repairs of Camp J. “Louisiana Lockup” is the latest facility to be converted into an ICE detention facility, after “Alligator Alcatraz” in Florida, “Cornhusker Clink” In Nebraska and “Speedway Slammer” in Indiana. EXCLUSIVE: Eight fighter jets will conduct a flyover when Polish President Karol Nawrocki arrives at the White House Wednesday morning, Fox News Digital has learned. President Donald Trump’s meeting with Nawrocki, whom Trump backed in the Polish elections earlier in 2025, comes amid ongoing negotiations between Poland’s neighboring Russia and Ukraine to end the conflict between the two countries. “President Trump is looking forward to welcoming President Nawrocki to the White House, who recently won a historic election in Poland,” White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly said in a Tuesday statement to Fox News Digital. The “spectacular flyover will honor the memory of a brave Polish fighter pilot whose life was tragically taken too soon and capture the special relationship between our two countries.” Four F-16 fighter jets are slated to perform a missing man formation Wednesday to honor a Polish army F-16 pilot who died in an August crash during a rehearsal for an airshow in Radom, Poland. The U.S. sells F-35 fighter jets to allies, including Poland, and the State Department signed off on a potential $1.85 billion sale of sustainment equipment for the F-35 to Poland in August. Likewise, the U.S. started training Polish aviators to operate the F-35 in May at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Arkansas. All crew members participating in the flyover are American. Those flying the F-16 aircraft are from the D.C. Air National Guard based out of Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, and the F-35 pilots are from Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida. A missing man formation occurs during a flyover when one aircraft breaks off from the rest, recognizing the missing or fallen service member. This isn’t the first time a flyover has occurred when the Polish president has visited the White House. One was also conducted in 2019 during Trump’s first term when then-Polish President Andrzej Duda arrived in Washington. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has sought to work with European allies in recent weeks on nailing down various security guarantees for Ukraine to safeguard against Russian aggression again. While Trump initially said a trilateral meeting with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was in the works following his meeting with Putin, Russia has shown disinterest in such a meeting. I’m watching it very closely … I want to see it end.” Nawrocki is slated to arrive at the White House at 11 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
