Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in Delhi for the summit. This marks his first visit to India since 2019, and it is being closely watched as India and China aim to enhance their recent efforts to stabilise bilateral ties.

The declaration, adopted at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, said China and Russia, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, reiterated their support for the aspirations of Brazil and India to play a greater role in the United Nations, including its Security Council.

The declaration expressed deep concern over continued escalation of tensions in West Asia and called for exercising maximum restraint, as well as avoiding actions that could further aggravate the situation.
