CJP said the government will consult its top leadership and respond by 3:30 pm the next day. He added that if there is no meaningful progress toward resolving their demands, they will announce a nationwide protest, larger than the July 20 demonstration.

The present petition specifically concerns police surveillance and had been filed even before the police action of July 20.

Rahul Gandhi, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, said that there are three demands of students, including action against those who resorted to lathicharge against students during the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march on July 20.
