The declaration, adopted at the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, said China and Russia, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, reiterated their support for the aspirations of Brazil and India to play a greater role in the United Nations, including its Security Council.

The declaration expressed deep concern over continued escalation of tensions in West Asia and called for exercising maximum restraint, as well as avoiding actions that could further aggravate the situation.

The Modi-Xi meeting at the BRICS Summit comes at a time when India and China are trying to improve ties after years of tensions since the 2020 Galwan Valley clash.
