In the absence of a consensus on appointing a new chief, the central government on Wednesday extended the tenure of CBI Director Praveen Sood by one year. Sood, a 1986-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Karnataka cadre, was originally scheduled to complete his two-year term on May 24.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh informed the all-party meeting on May 8 that at least 100 terrorists had been killed in Indian strikes carried out as part of Operation Sindoor on Wednesday morning, reported PTI citing unnamed sources.

Six people died while another was injured after a helicopter crashed near Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand on Thursday morning. There were seven people aboard the chopper, including the pilot, reports said.
