The selection of Christian Hardigree, regional chancellor for the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, was one of several shakeups at the Texas A&M System on Thursday.

Among the changes are a pending expiration of subsidies that help Texans buy Affordable Care Act insurance and limits to local programs that help the uninsured.

The longtime Austin Republican, who is retiring at the end of his term, said he is concerned about the direction of his party and Congress as a whole.
