Mhatre was taken to the Kalyan Sessions Court earlier in the day after he was discharged from the Thane Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him medically stable and fit for discharge.

Savariya Basant was allegedly killed by fellow student Sadarul Anam, also from Malappuram in Kerala. The family alleges that during the argument, the accused hit her on the head, which led to her death.

The government clarification comes amid widespread concerns over E20 fuel, with car users flagging reduced mileage and damage to older vehicles. Earlier, during a Supreme Court hearing, the Centre had said that its E20 policy was an “experiment” and its results would be known next year.
