The government has proposed increasing the number of Lok Sabha seats to 850 as part of its intention to implement the Women’s Reservation Act from the 2029 Lok Sabha polls, with 815 seats proposed to the states and the remaining 35 for the Union Territories, according to sources.

The rally, which was expected to be a massive show of strength in the textile hub of Tiruppur, turned chaotic as afternoon temperatures soared. The crowd began assembling at the venue from 10 am, hours before the event was slated to start.

At least 14 workers were killed and around 20 injured after a boiler explosion at a Vedanta Limited power plant in Sakti.
